fingerprint Personality
Personality Overview

Jack's secret to controlling the beast? He is always angry. His blood is in a constant state of boiling rage. And yet, the anger is also a source of control. It can be contained. It can be channeled. His literal centuries of military training has honed this werelion into an icy, calm, controlled demeanor, where every slight change can be used to his advantage.

There's no better way to turn a raging beast into the perfect killing machine.

The social mask he wears in public is for the benefit of others. The calm and collected soldier, keeping the world safe, with an easy smile and a wealth of experience to mentor others.

As a result of all this, Jack is resolute and unshakeable. It's rare to surprise him and rarer still to get a reaction or a rise from him that he didn't orchestrate himself.

Likes

Cigars, cigarettes, and pipe tobacco, tattoos, a good fight, guns, motorcycles, strong black coffee, warfare, blood, sex

Dislikes

Extreme weather conditions, sleeping without a bed, the lack of basic hygiene materials, death, sickness, disease, desert environments, drugs, those who are out of control, tears

Sexuality

He is too old to be bothered by typical constraints of sexual orientation or gender. He has seen too much and lived through too much. His clear preference is women, but he does not reject a connection or relationship that may blossom with a man.

Friends & Enemies

Jack is very much a man's man - fighting, smoking, drinking, and bedding women is part of his day to day existence. Those who approve or also partake in that lifestyle can find themselves an unspoken 'friend' in Jack, though friend is loose for 'we participate in the same hobbies but I won't be meeting your family or inviting you over for dinner'; those who do not partake in that lifestyle, or disapprove, will be ignored until they make themselves a nuisance, and then they will be quietly... removed from his life.

Long story short, Jack is a hard nut to crack, and he keeps himself at a distance from everyone except what is required of him to function at his job.

Love & Romance

Jack has been married twice; divorced from his first wife, widowed from his second. While he would not be opposed to taking another, it's not something he's particularly seeking and has left that into the hands of Fate to decide. His bloodlust and wanderlust haven't ceased since the death of his second wife, so at the moment he is content to sleep around and FWB under mutual agreements. That's not to say he hasn't left broken hearts in his wake.

Talents - What talents does Jack O'Grady have?

Jack is well versed in every classic fighting style, and anything he happens to not be well versed in, he is knowledgeable about. He's the type that, when someone mentions an obscure fighting style, can have a few talking points and an animated discussion or questions about all of them. (However please be kind to his writer who knows NOTHING.)

His preferred fighting style is melee-based, particularly the olden days of sword and shield, although he also enjoys the staff and pike - in a battle scenario his fists are a last resort. While he is perfectly adept with any kind of projectile weapon, gun, crossbow, bazooka, etc, and can handle himself just fine in any firefight, a sniper or sharpshooter he is not.

Hobbies - What hobbies does Jack O'Grady have?

Mechanics are his hobby - while he has no need to work at Namaste since he has a full time job at the Iron Maiden as well as taking on the occasional mercenary contract for Trinity, he still likes to get in there and help out when he needs some quiet time as a way to relax. Having been an engineer during the Industrial Revolution, he is skilled in mechanics for basically every single machine Namaste or Trinity sees.

Mannerisms - What mannerisms does Jack O'Grady have?

Jack isn't very expressive in either voice or body language, so what little he does show has a greater impact. This tends to loosen around friends but even still, it goes from "high guard" to "low guard", not "guard" to "no guard". He doesn't ever really let down his guard.

Family Overview

Jack is from the Scottish O'Grady Werelion clan - most O'Grady Werelions have some blood to him, distant or otherwise. Other than that, he has been married twice and fathered numerous children - though there aren't many of his direct descendants left these days.

His first marriage was around the 16th century and was relatively short-lived - there were no children (that he knows of) and he and his wife ultimately separated due to religious differences.

He was married to his second wife from 1820-1919. They had 12 children; however, several of his oldest children (unstated how many for plot purposes) died in service during WWI or the magical strain of the Spanish Flu in 1919 that came after - he lost his wife and youngest child (then less than a year old) to said disease.

After burying his wife and child he left Scotland and has not been back but once around the mid 1970s - and while his surviving children have gone on to forge names and families of their own, Jack is not in contact with any of them on a very frequent basis… if at all. He has been accused by one or two of abandoning their family altogether.

The fighters of the Iron Maiden and the members of Trinity are his surrogate family, as well. He can't claim to be a great father figure or mentor, and many mothers might say he is a terrible influence, but Jack begrudgingly takes the lost and angry under his wing. He does tend to accumulate people that are basically his 'kids'.

Lovers/Love Interests

Other Family:

Jack is currently serving as the adoptive father for Cynric Parker, having followed the boy's fighting career since he was around 15, but not taking him in officially until after his turning when he was 21.

After it was discovered that his long-lost sister Faina had been adopted by Trinity's Godfather, Jack ended up taking in the girl as a pseudo-adopted father as well.

He is also fostering Xerxes O'Grady, one of his great-nephews, as a favor to the boy's mother.

Pets - What pets does Jack O'Grady have?

While Jack has had plenty of pets of all kinds over the centuries, they were mostly for his late wife or his children - he's not too fond of owning pets himself. He does prefer to have a good tom cat now and again as a barn cat.

Fun Family Facts:

There are probably plenty of other "kids" of his currently in service at the Iron Maiden, but none of them are currently named NPCs.

Faina is the only one of the three named kids who is actively involved in Trinity as a member of the mafia.

February 12th, circa 1371

Birthplace/Hometown

Born somewhere in medieval Scotland

Education - What is Jack O'Grady’s level of education?

Jack is highly skilled and knowledgeable, but he's never bothered much with higher education in order to prove that skill. Compared to other creatures of his age, he only has a scant handful of degrees to show for it and none of them would be valid in the present day.

History Overview

Meet Jack! I like to call him 'Hulk Dad', although that better not be a nickname ever spoken to him at risk of being murdered. He is an ex-soldier, mercenary, mafia member of Trinity, leader and head fighter of the Iron Maiden fight club in Snow Haven. His secret to controlling his beast, is being in a constant state of fury that centuries of military training has honed into a tightly coiled weapon. That's where the Hulk part comes from.

The Dad part comes from him being an actual father - he is 650 years old, and two wives and many centuries has given him children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc etc. He is also a member of the Scottish O'Grady werelion clan, so he is distantly related to anyone from that clan. Most of his direct descendants are gone, wiped away by war and the Spanish Flu in 1919, but he can still claim more descendants and relatives than he could count. A reunion of his blood would likely not go over well...

The fighters of the Iron Maiden and the members of Trinity are his surrogate family, as well. He can't claim to be a great father figure or mentor, and many mothers might say he is a terrible influence, but Jack begrudgingly takes the lost and angry under his wing.

Detailed History

  • born in Scotland in 1371 during a period of deep unrest following the Black Death

  • Born a werelion, a clan of which resided in Scotland after Roman invasion in the 5th century AD. They were a small clan that kept to themselves.

  • conscripted into Scottish infantry at 16, and fought battles between the English, French, and newly independent Scotland until he decided to leave the military after the defeat of James V at the Battle of Solway Moss in 1542 (171 years old, considered early twenties in werebeast years)

  • attempted to return home to his clan and start a family, but he was a military man and much had changed in the last 200 years; he had a wife but they did not get along, especially once his wife turned to religion during the Protestant Reformation in Scotland in the mid sixteenth century, and he left her. No children (that he's aware of)

  • floated as a mercenary between various kingdoms and empires until he ended up in Russia during the early years of the Russian Mafia in 1720s (350 years old, moving into his middle years).

  • Between 350 - 450 years old: meets Madison, mafia hops with Madi for awhile, meets Drucilla through Madison, works with Drucilla for a little while til she's captured by Wolfsbane. Drops out of the mafia life during the 19th century because he's tired, moving into his late 20s in born were years, and has finally decided he's outgrown his years of death and bloodshed and wants a family (He is also be frightened of the Cult of Bane's movements during that time)

  • 19th century (1820-1918) returns to Scotland to marry his second wife and works as a journeyman. Scotland has just experienced its Industrial Revolution and it was easy to find work for a man of his skill. He worked in the coal/steel/railway industries and made his way up to engineer. He and his wife were happy, had kids, still dabbled in illegal things like underground fights, gambling, etc but for the most part was a good boy.

  • Tattooing was spreading through Great Britain in the 19th century and he got into the trade, reminding him of his painted scottish youth. He begins a slow collection of tattoos

  • Industry began to decline in Scotland at the turn of the 20th century. Jack debated moving his family out of Scotland, but they wouldn't go. Due to his youthful appearance he was conscripted back into the military for the entirety of the Great War from 1914-1918, along with several of his sons. The war, though harsh and brutal, reawakened Jack's bloodlust and love for war and death, more so after a few of his sons died.

  • His family might have been able to tame the beast, but most of his family, including his wife, was taken by a violent strain of the Spanish Flu in 1919 which had a basis in magic, partially the reason behind such a high mortality rate. His family and descendants fractured, he decides to return to the life of war and crime.

  • Fights on the front lines and as a mercenary up to and through WWII until 1945. When the second world war finally ends he decides to leave Europe for America for a fresh start, reconnects with Madi who is also going to America. She splits for Kerrigan and while he maintains contact with Madison and Kerrigan, he continues to float as a mercenary.

  • Unimpressed by how the "kids" fight, he eventually narrows his focus from mercenary to fighting rings as he makes his way west. Old Russian connections (and, partially, the call) eventually pull him north to Alaska to be close to russian contacts and the oil fields and trafficking. He hangs out in Anchorage for a while, mafia hopping before making his way inland towards Snow Haven.

  • Eventually he tells Kerrigan that they need to get a presence in Alaska ASAP if they want in on this trafficking business, and once Madi decides to split off from Kerrigan again he convinces her to make her new base for Trinity in Snow Haven, which is an untapped market thanks mostly to its resort status and isolation.

  • Shortly after Trinity's arrival in Snow Haven, Madison sees the untapped market for an underground fighting ring in the area and enlists Jack's help to get one started. In doing so, she talks him into joining Trinity as a permanent member and places "Tartarus" in charge of the Hellhounds and the Darkspawn of the Iron Maiden.

ac_unit Magic Info
Species Type

Werebeast (Lion)

Awareness Overview

Being born a werebeast, he was pretty familiar with the kind of creatures commonly found in the world at that time - and over the centuries having worked all over the world with dozens of organizations, and having finally been convinced to join up officially with Trinity and Kerrigan, knows as much as the most knowledgeable among his peers.

Powers

His age and training through the centuries make him a powerful and dangerous weapon. He is a soldier through and through.

Abilities

He no doubt has some access to unique abilities, whether via magic inked into his tattoos or something else, but I don't have anything to note at the moment.

Forms

Jack is a typical born werebeast, with the form of an AFRICAN LION when he takes to his bipedal beast form. He has no adverse reaction to the Lunar Change - in fact, he relishes in it.
