He has a high-school education but he went straight into the work force instead of going to college since he didn't have the money and he wanted his sister to go to college instead.
He discovered his powers at 16 when he was hiding from his drunk father and desperately wishing he'd stop drinking for once and his father's beer bottle fell off of the counter and shattered. He was terrified of his powers, thinking that they were only used for shattering glass, which he was scared off, but once he figured out what they really were, he learned to love them.
