Cordelia was born in the mountains of Abalathia's Spine to a small group of Viera that lived and hunted in the area. They did not follow the Viera tradition of the men staying away from the main village only to return for breeding once a year, instead choosing to live as a mixed group so long as everyone behaved themselves.

So she knew no other life; rough and tumble managing farm lands, wrestling with animals, and surviving days on her own while traveling to hunt. And she grew into a fine young woman, one that many of the men in the village had their eyes on. But Cordelia seemed uninterested in suitors or mating, just on maintaining her chores and keeping a handle on one of the village's curses; an inner beast that threatened to take over at any time if she wasn't careful.

Still one day one particular suitor didn't care for being turned down. He reached out and slapped Cordelia in the face, leaving long claw marks across her visage that would surely scar while calling her nasty names and saying he was sick of women like her always thinking they were too good for the men of the village.

For his actions the man was exiled, but Cordelia never fully recovered. She did indeed bear some nasty scars from the encounter and mentally she couldn't stand to even leave the house and see the place where he had slapped her. Her parents did their best but it was too much, and one night Cordelia left. She wasn't sure where she was going or what she was going to do when she got there, but she knew she couldn't stay in the mountains anymore.

Eventually she came to the city of Limsa Lominsa, joining up with their adventurer's guild and earning enough of a name for herself to be entrusted with the secrets of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. There she met Broil Makalt and despite a somewhat rocky start the pair agreed to work together where necessary as they started the long journey of A Realm Reborn and beyond.

Because several timelines exist for these characters things can get a bit confusing, so I wanted a space to give a small explainer of this.

Please be aware there may be spoilers for any point of the game's story, so read at your own risk.

The Primary Timeline sees Cordelia fallen to her curse, never entrusted with the secrets of the Scions.

The Secondary Timeline is the one that you can safely assume applies to most of the information on this page about Cordelia. It's also the timeline listed in her history section.

And finally the Tertiary Timeline is more about Cordelia and Broil's children, Nefra and Jasper. They are present but mostly handling their own business while the kids save the world.
