Sable was born to Aura Petrichor after her exile from the kingdom she had forcefully taken control of while she was under the influence of the Tarrasque.

His life was a relatively quiet one, just him and his mother as she taught him to use his changeling powers and keep them hidden. They lived simply, with Sable understanding why but always loving his mother's tales of her time as an adventurer saving the world as his bedtime stories.

Then the worst happened - the Strain returned, and the world was dying. Aura did the only thing she could think of, calling on the last of her lingering magical power to open a portal to another dimension and send Sable through.

Not that he wanted to go, but Sable had always been someone to think practically. His survival meant tales of his home world could be told, and his mother could be honored, and he could hopefully make a life for himself and continue on. So as the Strain consumed everything around them Sable hugged his mother goodbye and disappeared into the portal.

Alex Krystarael found him not too long after, seeing him on the road looking lost and asking if she could help. Upon realizing he wasn't familiar with the area she spent time helping him get familiar, and in time they fell in love. Sable doesn't try to make Alex stop being a party girl, and Alex didn't judge when Sable told her the truth and showed her his changeling powers, so for now they're an adorable couple.

Because several timelines exist for these characters things can get a bit confusing, so I wanted a space to give a small explainer of this.

Please be aware there may be spoilers for any point of the game's story, so read at your own risk.

The Primary Timeline has Sable not in Eorzea as the portal opened elsewhere.

The Secondary Timeline is the same as the Primary Timeline for Sable.

The Tertiary Timeline is the one that you can safely assume applies to most of the information on this page about Sable. It's also the timeline listed in his history section.
