Alex was born in Radz-at-Han alongside her twin brother Julian Krystarael, her mother Rhys Krystarael and her father Ahewann, the Satrap of Radz-at-Han.

As Alex was born Au Ra and her brother Elezen, each inheriting traits from their opposite gendered parent, it was always expected Alex would someday take her father's place and that expectation has been a weight upon her shoulders since she was old enough to recognize what it was.

Never did she want that, and her upbringing was a struggle between her parents trying to force the training and knowledge she needed upon her and her own desires for her freedom and wanting to just experience life instead of being forced into a role. To that end when she was 18 Alex left home, secreting away in the middle of the night for the distant shores of Eorzea.

So far no one has tried to pursue her, and Alex has done everything she can to eliminate any ties to her home. She writes to Julian sometimes, and misses him terribly, but he isn't one for travel and is content to stay put and tell Rhys and Ahewann that Alex is safe when her letters arrive. Julian sends letters to the Maelstrom where he knows Alex is serving, and she picks them up when she comes through Limsa.

Because several timelines exist for these characters things can get a bit confusing, so I wanted a space to give a small explainer of this.

Please be aware there may be spoilers for any point of the game's story, so read at your own risk.

The Primary Timeline is one in which Alex and Julian are born in some very far-flung future, away from the game's events.

The Secondary Timeline is when Alex's birth parent, Rhys, is an adult and she and her brother are born at some point after Dawntrail (unsure exactly when, yet)

The Tertiary Timeline is the one that you can safely assume applies to most of the information on this page about Alex. It's also the timeline listed in her history section.
