Julian and his sister Alex Krystarael were born in Radz-at-Han, children of Rhys Krystarael and Ahewann, the city's effective leader.

The burden of one day taking over for their father was never what Alex wanted even if it's what is expected of her, and Julian carried no such burdens because no one expected him to lead since he does not look like an Au Ra so he always felt protective of his sister. She faced so many disadvantages that he cannot even fathom, and if he could save her from even one then he wanted to do just that.

Whenever she was being bullied or people said she'd never lead because her mother's an Elezen Julian always stepped up to defend her - it's not that she can't lead, it's that she doesn't want to and she should be allowed to choose her own path.

So when Julian woke up one morning to a letter from Alex explaining that she had run off to avoid a life she never wanted to have he felt heartbroken but he also understood. Julian kept her secret, lying to both parents and saying she hadn't said anything to him or left him anything even if it was clear they didn't believe him.

Now Julian does what he can to help his father, though he still has no intentions of leading Radz-at-Han; just helping out until a new leader can be named as his father's effective heir so Alex can finally come home.

Because several timelines exist for these characters things can get a bit confusing, so I wanted a space to give a small explainer of this.

Please be aware there may be spoilers for any point of the game's story, so read at your own risk.

The Primary Timeline is one in which Alex and Julian are born in some very far-flung future, away from the game's events.

The Secondary Timeline is when Julian's birth parent, Rhys, is an adult and he and his sister are born at some point after Dawntrail (unsure exactly when, yet)

The Tertiary Timeline is the one that you can safely assume applies to most of the information on this page about Julian. It's also the timeline listed in his history section.
