Melissa blinked in confusion, quietly stepping up to him. "Lucas?" She asked softly, dropping the bag. As soon as she caught sight of his arms, she felt absolutely sick. "Oh my god, Lucas… babe…" She whispered weakly, unable to say much else.
Lucas looked up at Melissa slowly, his face pretty pale. "I think I need new bandages." He said simply. His eyes were a bit glassy and he didn't seem to be quite present.
Melissa swallowed down the lump in her throat, nodding weakly at his suggestion. "Y-Yeah… yeah, you do." She whispered, trying to not freak out. "I'll… I'll go get a doctor."
"Mmkay…" Lucas looked back down at his arms, humming weakly to himself. His bloody bandages lay strewn across the bed.
Melissa only took a minute or so before she came back, one of the doctors trailing after her. “Hey, Lucas… is everything alright?” The man asked softly, coming up to wrap his arms up. “Why’d you take the bandages off?”
"I dunno… wanted to see…" Lucas mumbled softly, still not quite focused as he watched his wounds get covered with fresh bandages.
"Well, you're gonna need to keep them on. Do you think you can do that?" The doctor asked softly, glancing up at Lucas. Melissa was watching in silence.
"Mmmm… I guess so…" Lucas kept staring down blankly at his arms, even after they'd been bandaged up.
"Alright, thank you." The man told Lucas softly, not seeming so sure. He glanced over to Melissa warily before cleaning up the old bandages. After a couple of minutes he left the two alone in the room.
Lucas had stared at his arms the whole time the doctor was cleaning up, and was still doing so after he left. He was eerily silent and very still other than the occasional quaver of his hands.
Melissa stood in silence for a while, before clearing her throat and slowly approaching him. "I… um… I brought you blankets…" She offered weakly, hugging herself.
"Thaaaanks…" Lucas mumbled tiredly, not looking up at Melissa. He fell silent again for a bit. "I don't want to be alone…"
"I… I don't know if I can stay…" Melissa told him softly, coming up and gently running her fingers through his hair. "I… I could ask, if you want..?"
"Mm…" Lucas finally closed his eyes when Melissa touched him, relaxing a bit into her hand. He was still noticeably tense, but Melissa being close to him seemed to be helping.
Melissa sighed softly, placing a tender kiss to the top of his head. "If I get a doctor's approval, you have to promise you'll wake me up if you need me." She whispered, starting to play with his hair.
"Okay…" Lucas leaned into Melissa a bit, sighing shakily. He wrapped his arms around her waist as best he could to pull her closer.
Melissa let him pull her as close as possible, resting her knee on the edge of the bed. "I'll have to leave early tomorrow, because of school… are you gonna be okay?"
"I dunno… probably…" Lucas mumbled, struggling to relax. "But I don't want you to go, Mel…" He said softly.
"I know you don't, love… but I doubt I can just skip school…" Melissa whispered, pulling him closer to herself. "It won't be that long, just a couple of hours."
Lucas whined softly, keeping his eyes closed. "But I'm gonna be stuck here alone all day without you or Cody or anybody…"
"I'm gonna call you though, remember? And I don't have to stay for practice, or anything." Melissa hummed softly, resting her chin on the top of his head.
(According to Google, both Cody and Melissa would be allowed to stay the night aha)
"Okay…" Lucas sighed softly and tried to curl up closer to Melissa. "But I really don't wanna be alone…"
(And Cody would be allowed to stay with him during the day as long as he's obedient and vaccinated lol)
(Well look at that. Lol)
"I can see what I can do… but I can't promise anything…" Melissa whispered, starting to pull back a little. "If you give me like, five minutes, I can be right back."
"Mmkay…" Lucas sighed shakily and curled in on himself after he let go of Melissa, shivering lightly.
Melissa gave him a soft smile, before starting her way out of the room. She was as quick as she could be, coming back to his room as soon as she had gotten everything sorted out. "Lu? You still doing alright?" She asked as she walked through the door.
"Mmmmmmmmm…" Lucas was curled up in a tight ball by the time Melissa returned, his face buried in his pillow. He was still shivering lightly.
Melissa let out a soft sigh, coming up to the bed. "Lu~" She hummed, pulling a blanket up for him. "They said I could stay~"
"Yaaaay…" Lucas accepted the blanket from Melissa and wrapped himself up in it. "For how long?" He asked.
"Overnight. And," Melissa started, sitting on the edge of his seat. "They said Cody could come during the day. As long as he behaves."
Lucas smiled weakly and nodded. "Sounds good… I'm guessing they wouldn't allow me to go get him, though?"
