"But I don't want to bug you…" Melissa mumbled, head resting against him. "Or anyone, for that matter. Everyone's got their own problems to deal with."
"But I don't want to bug you…" Melissa mumbled, head resting against him. "Or anyone, for that matter. Everyone's got their own problems to deal with."
"I know, Mel. Trust me, I know. It's hard to ask for help, but you need to. Claus didn't, and look where that landed him? Look where it almost landed me?"
"I know, I know… I just can't make myself. It's so hard to get myself to even talk to the therapist…" Melissa mumbled weakly, holding onto him tightly.
"You gotta trust them, darling. They're not allowed to tell anybody about anything you say unless you're a minor hurting yourself… then they gotta tell your parents. But other than that, they're sworn to secrecy."
"But… but it's not the trust. I don't have any problem trusting them, it's… it's the fact they don't actually want to help me. Or um, that's what I keep telling myself…" Melissa mumbled once more.
"I'm sure they wanna help you, Mel… that's their job, after all. It's hard to feel like it's working at first, but you'll notice it helping if you let them help."
"But… but what if they really don't want to, Lucas? What if-" Melissa cut herself off, sucking in a deep breath. "I just… you know how hard it is. I don't really have anything to explain, do I?"
"Trust me, Mel. They do. Why wouldn't they?" Lucas asked. "What could you have done to make them not wanna help?"
"I-I dunno… just because?" Melissa replied weakly. "I mean- what have I done to deserve them to listen?"
"You don't need to do anything to deserve it, love. You just do." Lucas kissed Melissa softly. "You deserve it."
"But why do I deserve it? It just… it doesn't make any sense." Melissa mumbled, leaning back to rest against him.
"You don't really need a reason, Mel. You're a human being. You have value and rights and you deserve to get help if you need it."
Melissa sighed weakly, looking up at him. “I- you’re sure? I don’t want to screw something up.”
"Yes, Mel. I'm absolutely sure." Lucas smiled weakly and kissed Melissa's cheek.
Melissa nodded, kissing him in return. “I’m sorry for that…” She mumbled, starting to play with his hair.
"What are you sorry for, Mel?" Lucas asked gently, resting his head against Melissa's.
“For melting down. We only have a few minutes left, and I kind of wasted it.” Melissa mumbled, kissing his cheek.
"It's okay, Mel… you're just worried. It's alright." Lucas smiled weakly. "Therapy is hard."
“You weren’t bothered by it?” Melissa asked softly, looking up at him. “I- you could have asked me to stop talking, if it did..”
"I'm not bothered, Mel. I'm not bothered at all." Lucas pulled Melissa closer. "You're allowed to talk to me about your problems too, you know. It's not all about me."
“Yeah, but doesn’t it… make things difficult, I guess?” Melissa asked softly, arms wrapped around his waist. “Doesn’t it effect you, or stress you out?”
"Well, a little. I worry about you, obviously, but I'm usually able to console you. Then I'm more relaxed when you've left because I know that I helped you."
“So- um… me talking to you about what’s going on… helps?” Melissa asked softly, reaching for his hand to lace their fingers together.
"Yeah. I like being able to help you through stuff the way that you've helped me before." Lucas smiled softly.
Melissa nodded a little, face burying in his shoulder. "I- you're really sure? I don't want to bug you…"
"I'm really sure, Mel. I promise you're not bugging me." Lucas gently kissed the crown of Melissa's head.
"Alright… I- alright…" Melissa nodded a little, starting to pull back. "I-I think I have to leave in a few minutes…"
"I know, Mel… I'm gonna miss you." Lucas smiled weakly and sighed. "But you do gotta go. I don't want you being banned or anything."
Melissa laughed weakly, holding his face in her hands. "Well, I doubt they'd ban me, but I'd rather not find out." She hummed softly, kissing his lips.
"Mhmm… I wanna keep being able to see you, you know. Stay out of trouble, will you?" Lucas gently returned the kiss.
