Calypso's favorite colors are black, green and silver, and it can be found in abundance throughout her clothing, her home, and her office. When out in public, you will never see her out and about in anything that can be considered "business casual" or less; she is always in heels and a pantsuit or heels and a dress. Jeans and t-shirts aren't apart of her wardrobe. The important thing is that she looks the part of the rich and powerful, because she is, and she won't let you forget it.

She is sometimes wearing her talisman, a silver and green necklace whose charm looks to be an emerald teardrop.

She is confrontational and empowering, intimidating and charismatic. There is great zeal and dedication in everything that she does, though it's out of character for her to do something strictly for charity. Calypso will always have an ulterior motive for helping someone or agreeing to a deal. She is the kind of person that will gain the upper hand in a business deal with the other party being none-the-wiser either indefinitely or until it's too late.

Cal always speaks and acts both professionally and formally. Profanity rarely leaves her lips, unless she has been harmed or betrayed in some way. She rarely speaks informally, but if she does speak informally to someone, that person is extremely important to her.

» Her beloved pet, Piper. Piper is a 6yr old female African Clawless Otter that Calypso raised from ten weeks old. Calypso normally isn't seen without Piper in the Nightfall office as the otter cannot be left at home alone; in Las Vegas, Piper is something of a celebrity among Nightfall employees. She sometimes walks on her signature cyan blue harness and matching leash, but is usually wrapped around mom's shoulders. Piper's favorite activities include cuddling, swimming, and sleeping on mom's lap (especially at night).
» Otters are Cal's favorite animal in the world. When in vacation in Japan, she was able to 'shake hands' with an otter at the zoo and latter swam with otters in the same place the same day. She fell head over heels in love with the cuddly scamps and knew she had to have one of her own. A few weeks later, Cal was the proud owner of a Wildlife 1 license.

» Unphased - Cal is not easily phased by much, be it insects or... Well anything else. If there's a bug or reptile inside, she will corner it, catch it and put it outside. She will sometimes make a fuss about getting potential stains on her clothes, but not a big one. She loves being outside, especially near water, and isn't at all phased by lengthy hikes. Alternatively, she is much harder to anger and offend.

» AngelsBane - While she normally doesn't listen to metal, Angelsbane is one of the exceptions because of the messages in their music. She believes that the bands' female singer is one of the best role models for today's young women. The fastest way to earn Cal's favor is to take her to an Angelsbane concert - one where she can possibly meet the bands singer, Evelyn Mist.

» Escapists - In or out of animal form, a prey item escaping her clutches is... The easiest way to make her day a sour one.
» Country Music - Even as an infant, Cal has never liked the country genre. She prefers classical and some pop, or anything upbeat. However, her favorite band is Angelsbane for the empowering, unstoppable force that is Evelyn Mist.

» Talk of Suicide - Suicide is a touchy subject for Cal. Her brother Darien and his wife lost their baby girl in 2015, were unable to recover from the loss together and ended up separating. He was so depressed that he had a close call with suicide with trying to overdose on pills. Thankfully, Cal was nearby to check on him, found him, and rushed him to the hospital just in time.

» Professional - The professional world is part of Calypso's home. She was bred in the upper class elite societies. She will always look and act the part of a business professional while on the job. Outside of work, Calypso may seem unapproachable and intimidating as she will be formal with new people.

» Stubborn - Once her mind is set on something, someone or somewhere, getting her off of it is like trying to move a dragon from its treasure horde.

» Ruthless - Calypso will do anything and everything to get whatever she wants whenever she wants it. She is not accustomed to facing roadblocks or challenges she can't overcome. Get on her side or get the hell out of her way.

» Critic - One of the things that her friends find annoying is that she talks during films, to point out what doesn't make sense.

MARCH 16TH, 1976

Calypso's earliest memories, to those around her, is shrouded in mystery. Her mother came from nothing with not a penny to her name. At some point, her mother discovered the supernatural underground and catered to their needs, and was rewarded for her services. Her children never talked about mom's work, but with a third child on the way, she was working overtime until a certain politician came into her life. Thus, Calypso was born into a life of luxury, freedom and choice. The world was hers from the taking since the day she was born. Her parents kept her and her brothers humble; they believed that hard work made success, and that their children could do whatever they put their minds to.

From the age of 3, Cal felt a powerful urge to be near the water. More specifically, she was spellbound by the animals found in the sea. Her favorite were whales. Growing up, she was torn between working at Sea World and being a Marine Biologist until her older brother told her to try both. Thus, at the age of 18, she started taking classes to become a marine biologist while taking a part time job at Sea World. She was promoted after her first year to a Killer Whale trainer, and after lots of training, Calypso finally came face to face with her favorite creature. There were two of them, Tank (male) and Fiona (female). Tank was her favorite; he was the younger of the two, and training him was Cal's favorite part of the job. By the time she was 21, Tank would not swim with anyone else. And all it took was one show for everything to go wrong.

It started the same as every other show when she swam with Tank and Fiona. She was standing on the ledge giving them fish treats for their tricks when Fiona knocked her off of the platform and into the water. Before Cal could grab Tank's dorsal fin, Fiona pushed her further out into the water, took one of Cal's arms in her mouth, and dragged her trainer underwater. The audience watched in horror. Tank dove after them and for a few seconds, it looked as though a third orca was in the tank with them. A minute later, Tank surfaced with an unconscious Calypso on his snout. He carried her to the edge were paramedics were waiting. In the background, other trainers were canceling the show and guiding everyone out of the show area.

When she awoke, she was wearing a selkie's talisman.

Sea World staff required her to take some time off to recover from the shock of the attack while they changed the water pins to allow Fiona to go into a different pin during a show. Calypso tried to say that she was fine to work, but bit the bullet and had the rest of the month to herself (classes weren't available until next August). On her first day off, she traveled to a nearby beach. When she submerged with her amulet, her body changed once more. Panicked by her sudden whaleness, she plunged deeper under the waves. Somehow, she ended up beaching herself. A fellow Selkie, who had been passing by, found her.

Discovering that she was no longer human came as a shock at first. Cal came around quickly; being a killer whale meant she would explore the ocean, learn more about orca travels and so forth. The other selkie was a great white shark that went by the name Ted. Ted taught her almost everything she needed to know about being a Selkie, but some of it she learned on her own. However, ted quickly started to notice that Calypso was changing into a different person. Cal liked being an orca. It seemed to be hardening he, giving her confidence.

In three months, there was almost no difference between the orca and Cal. After the 3rd month, she started to hunt in animal form. By becoming a selkie, she became a woman that started to understand her power - and utilized it. When one meets Calypso, they sense an air of a lazy jungle cat around her. Suddenly getting a person to submit to her willingly is second nature.

She explored her mind more over the course of 3 years. In this time, she switched career paths and started working for a company called Midnight Resorts & Associates. She moved up the chain of command as a force that couldn't be stopped in less than 6 months. In three years time, she became a CEO with the majority of the company's stocks and timeshares. As the CEO of a multi-million dollar company, Calypso had very little responsibilities except for reading emails and either accepting or denying ideas. She had several flings, but nothing serious and never with an employee, despite how much and how loudly her mother expressed the desire to have grandchildren. Cal simply told her mother that she was focused on her career and had no time for children - nor an interest in men. She came out as a lesbian in front of her step-father, mother and two brothers. Her parents disowned her and forbid her to step foot on their property. Thus, she left and lived in a condo.

She was with the company for 10 years before she discovered the company called Nightfall, where she started by taking selkie services. Within a year, she was providing those services. Once again, she moved up the chain of command (still having ownership of Midnight Resorts & Associates, mind you). Two years later, she became one of the Branch Managers in Los Angeles. Some months later, she was the Branch Manager of two locations. She has been with Nightfall since, investing in the company as needed while opening other locations for Midnight Resorts & Associates - which branched out and started opening Midnight Clubs.

Three years ago, Cal left her assistants Janet Ashcraft and Andrea Moore in charge of her LA branches and started to research places where she could spend a little more time in her other form - where that form was a native species. The perfect place came in the form of Snow Haven. After saying farewell and giving her parents one more chance to rekindle their relationship, she moved into Snow Haven. Three months later, she bought Tamana Tavern and improved the building, and hired new staff (some of the long standing members of the staff are still there). The year afterward, her mother called her in tears. Gabriel was in a coma and his chances of survival were slim to nothing. Calypso flew back down to LA to be with her family.

Gabriel passed shortly after her arrival. Her mother grieved heavily, and apologized for disowned her only daughter, saying that she should have never done so. Her selkie daughter accepted her apology. In June, 2017, Calypso returned to Snow Haven with her family. Her mother resides in Tamana Tavern as a permanent resident. Her younger brother, without a family of his own, moved with them and also resides in the tavern. Near the end of 2018, Calypso reached out to Natasha Keller and suggested that a Nightfall Branch be opened in Snow Haven, and that she would cover the expenses if necessary - as she was interested in returning to work as the one to look over Selkie services and provide those services.

Now that the new branch has been opened, she has assumed the role of the Selkie Ambassador and handles all selkie affairs in the area. She does, however, go on vacation once or twice a month. Her earnings from owning Midnight and Tamana have lead to the creation of a non-profit organization that assists employees experiencing hardship.

Allison Tayse, Cal's mother, was a concubine for supernaturals until she met and married Gabriel Tayse while she was pregnant with Calypso. As a result, Cal doesn't know who her real father is, but has no interest in knowing. Allison remains to be an intense, empowered woman after the tragic loss of her husband in 2012. Gabriel was a powerful mage, a politician with more enemies than he could name. Citizens of the city weren't fans of the direction he believed in. He was assassinated by a masked "vigilante" in downtown New York.

Darien Tayse is Cal's 32-yr old half-brother, her "fathers" pride and joy. Nick, affectionately called Nicky by his siblings, is the eldest of the Tayse children - by just two years, but he would never let his siblings forget that fact.

Selkie (orca)

Calypso was a blissfully unaware human until the age of 23, when a show gone wrong resulted in her becoming a selkie. Since then, she's been largely involved in the supernatural underground - working with Nightfall to provide services for other Selkies, opening businesses to provide shelter and other needs for supernats (including potions, magical items, etc).

Selkie Form
Her selkie form is that of an 8,000lbs orca. Cal takes to the sea often to transform. In this form, she tends to let loose and be wild. She can, and has, eaten seals and other animals while transformed. However... There was one time that she was out and about a few years ago where a humanoid punched her in the snout when she swam towards them. Her nose sometimes still experiences phantom pangs.
