Drew I choose you!

After much consideration I’ve decided that Drew would be best fit with the New Romantic fashion movement!

New Romantic originated in the UK during the 70s and features a flamboyant and androgynous way of dressing often referred to as a punk aesthetic! The biggest example of this would be the Kahn and Bell Boutique! But as it became mainstream, many music bands adopted it and it quickly dissipated.

New Romantic combines the 18th to 19th century romantic period with glam rock aesthetics (think of David Bowie’s style). It involves extra clothing with very extra makeup made to blur the line between gendered expectations. New Romantic was a movement created out of defiance and rebellion. This is why I think it would be perfect for Drew.

I have read, I have thought and I have decided that Henry needs to upgrade his wardrobe to a cottagecore aesthetic!

Cottagecore was developed during the early 2010s and gained a lot of popularity on the OG hell site that is Tumblr! It involves pastel and gentle colors as well as a lot of floral print. It takes inspiration from old rural Europe Renaissance era and it’s all about the simple traditional life.

For feminine presenting people, it’s floral print dresses and boots for for farming with a wide straw hat and a basket to collect roses for the charming neighbour down the street~
For masculine presenting people, it’s muted earth colors, briefs, a vest and plain button up shirt with a nice hat for when you need to pick the pockets of the suspiciously rich landlord.

There are a lot of traditional and conservative inspirations (that are very risky) but cottagecore has been somewhat adopted by the lesbian community and turned into something really cute!

@sheabutter Ali'sen-Dera, rebellious and stubborn but wronged by the society he grew up in.
Perfect for 70s punk!

During the 70s, punk rock and scene culture was really starting to get popular especially in countries like the UK, Canada and the USA.

The punk movement is anti-authority and anti-establishment. To be punk is to be free. To be free is to be rebellious. And to be rebellious you obviously have to start with your outfit!
Punk fashion involves ripped clothing, chains, piercings everywhere, loooots of leather and combat boots.

The funny thing is that the style juxtaposed the message. While rebelling, a 70s punk would often wear clothing that can feel restrictive. But as time went on, the people that were the enemies of punk eventually tried to steal that style, which lead to the gatekeeping as punks are extremely efficient at spotting posers.

But in the past decade, the style has made somewhat of a return through e-boy/girl fashion culture and brands like “Demonia” becoming more popular, (especially among the LGBTQ+ community)

In my opinion, this style is perfect for someone like Ali'sen-Dera!

Ski gave me Slavic and Inuit vibes ngl! But at the same time, one of her outfits shared similarities to an Indian sari and her brother's name is apparently Japanese for mountain. At the same time, she definitely gives me east Asian vibes! My closest guess is Mongolia or China! (Lemme know if my guesses where correct XD)

Anyway! I have read, I have seen, and I have decided that Ski deserves a bohemian/boho chic style!

Boho is often compared to hippie style, but they are quite different! The bohemian movement was a precursor to the hippie movement and originated in 18th century France, during the infamous French Revolution! As you can imagine, people were very very very poor, and this especially affected the artists. So people started dressing in more old and "unwealthy" clothing, but as time went on, it became a bit of a trend! The people of France especially enjoyed copying nomadic Romani people who were called "Bohémian" that were originally northern Indian many, many centuries back.

During the 19th century, they then started to incorporate beads and flowing fabric as well as Slavic and middle eastern aspects. Now bohemian can be recognized with its gorgeous patterns, nice loose clothing and, again, lots of beads.

While yes, the morality of bohemian is questionable seeing as a bunch of western Europeans essentially stole aspects of the cultures they were demeaning, it seemed fitting for Ski because I couldn't help but notice some Indian, Slavic and Mongolian inspirations in her style. The name "Ski" is also a suffix often used in Russian names! Of course, I'm just guessing these regions were inspirations. I don't actually know what you had in mind XD!

@Retr0inactive oh wow, thanks! Okay, I feel I must explain something because I unfortunately didn’t notice until after I had linked her. Those drawings I made of her are actually quite old and I had made a new one that better showed my ideas for her design, but I forgot to put it on her page. Feel free to look back at it if you like, maybe it will clear up the culture confusion?
Tibet was the main culture that inspired her design, so China was the closest guess! I did use some Indian influences as well because the world I have her in at the moment is mainly Tibet and India merges of culture and aesthetics. There are also just general fantasy aesthetic influences I have in there as well. The old drawings had her in a Tibetan chupa (that’s cut short cuz she’s wearing pants) with the robe over top. And I pulled her sibling’s name from a list of Tibetan names I had just found thought some rudimentary googling.
Anyway, I did not expect bohemian, but I can see how it fits! Thanks so much for your thoughts ^^

Wow that’s so interesting!!! I have to do more research or Tibetan attire now XD
And no problem! Your character is so interesting and I adore her design!!
