Tall for her age
Nell is generally shy and quiet around strangers, but bubbly around her friends. She is easily flustered when speaking, and takes time to notice the little things like flowers and the hue of the sky. She's quite clever, and has an excellent memory when it comes to medical skills. She can also spin tales very easily, whether it's to calm an injured person or to distract a person while her family members rob them. Though she's generally soft-spoken and sweet, she loses that when her loved ones are threatened, and will fight tooth and nail to protect them. It's easy to forget that she spent her teenage years on the run and in the streets, but those who cross her will learn that the hard way.

She's too shy at times, naive, overemotional, and afraid to stand up for herself to her trusted people. She's also in that weird in-between area of someone who was forced to grow up too fast, where she has a lot of knowledge but not the best kind. For example, she can set a broken bone but can't speak to her crush.
She is initially distrustful of others, until she warms up to them, and of government officials since they were bribed into killing her parents
Born and raised in Creston to Anna and Lucas Walters, a young couple who owned a small shop in a fairly small town (at least by Creston's standards), Nella is the younger sister of Joan Walters.
When Joan was fourteen and Nell was eleven, a fire broke out at the shop. Joan and Nell escaped in one piece, though Joan suffered some burns to her arms, but both of their parents died. The two of them lived on the streets for a few months working odds jobs as they tried to locate the only family member they knew they had left: Nicholas Fox, their older cousin who the girls hadn't seen in years. Joan began to ask around, and was met with distaste; she didn't know that Nich had become a fairly infamous con artist-slash-thief in the years since they'd spoken. Nevertheless Nell and Joan eventually found him...bleeding out in an alley after being shot almost literally in the back by a friend-turned-rival. Nell and Joan got him to safety as she did her best to patch up the bullet wound in his right shoulder, and found a backalley doctor to help with painkillers and to keep the wound from getting infected. While initially not thrilled with two naive teenage girls tagging along with him, Nich and his cousins soon formed a tight-knit trio of thieves with him as the face, Joan as the backup, and Nell as the doctor
