Background - What is Tyr Runekeeper’s background?

Tyr's story begins in the universe of Warhammer 40K. Born to human parents, her birth name is now lost. Her parents both served in the Astra Militarum, her father dead in the line of duty and her mother eventually falling to Chaos.

Once orphaned she was sent to a local Schola Progenium, studying hard and showing from even that young age that death did not scare her - her own, or that of others. She took lives as easily as she breathed when commanded to do so, which meant that upon graduation the Officio Assassinorum was very quick to pick her up.

From there the Vanus Temple took her, and she became Tyr Runekeeper, a name inspired by the tales of fierce Space Wolves. Vanus wanted her because she was smart, well able to control the flow of information and understand even the most obscure political issues. Killing from a distance, a kill engineered to look like an accident or that it happened by the hand of another, became all Tyr knew...and in time, all she was.

But there was still humanity left in her, something that came bursting out of the shadows as she was asked to kill a girl only a few years younger than herself. The Steingart family of Life's Stanza at the time had three children, two daughters and a son, and the father of the household wanted his middle daughter eliminated. He thought his oldest daughter was useless and as pilot of the house's Knight he figured she would be killed in battle soon enough but that would leave the duties to the next oldest, the middle daughter. Wanting his son, his wanted warrior, to take that place he angled to have the middle daughter killed and hired an assassin for it.

Tyr did as she was commanded, slipping in unnoticed and setting herself up in an unused room of the castle to start spying on her mark. But it was then she saw exactly why the father wanted her dead; not just his original stated version, but the fact that he had been sexually assaulting both of his daughters as well. She was too much of a threat, if the other nobles found out they would not look kindly on the house and might even begin rethinking alliances.

An innocent teenage girl repeatedly assaulted by her father was not someone Tyr could bring herself to kill, so she pivoted her plan on finding a way to get the girl out and in the meantime decided to abandon her life as an assassin - even if that meant being hunted and killed for it. So she made herself known to the girl and spent a few years hiding out in the castle helping protect her; ushering her into secret passages whenever her father was upset, secreting her away at night so he couldn't touch her, and falling in love.

Eventually the Assassinorum realized she'd gone truly dark and sent someone to finish the mission, especially as complaints from High Lord Steingart about his daughter still being alive were lodged after a year or so. Tyr was forced to flee before her plan to get the girl out of the house safely were complete, and she had to leave the teenager alone with her father; by that time the oldest sister had fled as well and at the time she was heavily pregnant by her father and could not have piloted the Knight so the job fell to the oldest son just as their father had wanted.

From there Tyr set her sights on men like High Lord Steingart, who used their power and position of authority to abuse those under them. She kept on the move to avoid detection from the Assassinorum, and traded her skills and information for passage on ships from planet to planet as she found her marks.

Eventually, though, Tyr made a mistake. While investigating a potential target the planet came under attack from Chaos, specifically Nurgle. She wasn't able to get out before catching one of the numerous diseases spread by Nurgle's forces and had no choice but to confront the Lord of Rot to make a pact; hold off the infection for a few years, give her a chance to chase down the last few people on her list, and after that she would willingly become part of his army.

Nurgle agreed, and Tyr knew she was on borrowed time. Her kills became less clean, less time spent finding the best ways and using her Vanus skills appropriately and more time spent traveling. Killing as quickly as she could before moving on, because she knew Nurgle could change his mind at any point or there could be another incident.

Tyr's last target was one Lord Draymond, a Rogue Trader with a history of not doing his job - specifically, not protecting the worlds he came across bearing human civilizations until they could be incorporated into the wider Imperium. He was also fond of looting worlds for himself and failing to document several pieces of technology he found, intending to sell them on a black market for more money. He also paid no heed to protect his crew, allowing them to abuse one another so long as that didn't interfere with his missions.

The plan was to eliminate Draymond, then take herself out before Nurgle could come for her. And it would have gone off without a hitch save one thing; another Rogue Trader ship was asked to help, as the most recent world found and raided by Draymond and his crew was a Necron Tomb World and the raids had awoken the dormant Necrons. Both ships were supposed to use their crews to hold the Necrons away from the nearby civilizations until space could be cleared for a contingent of Astartes to land, assess the situation further, and either evacuate the civilians or take care of the Necron threat.

However the second ship held an old friend. Having finally found the courage to also flee, she had been working as a medical officer on board for a few months and it was nothing but a cruel twist of fate that the two were reunited in this manner. Once the area was clear and the Astartes were inbound Tyr killed Draymond and then herself, as planned, leaving a letter for her beloved explaining everything. Upon finding the letter and Tyr's body she took Tyr's gun and ended her own life as well, preferring death in the arms of the woman she loved to a continued life where she too was always on the run, always looking over her shoulder and fearing her father would find a way to drag her home.

Tyr's soul drifted, the Warp a strange place indeed. It spat her out in Eorzea, born as a Roegadyn to loving parents who tried their best to raise her well along side their two older sons.

Remembering nothing of her previous life, Tyr grew up relatively normal. Her father served in the Maelstrom, and instilled in her a strong sense of pride in military service. When she was 16 they all died; a freak accident, Tyr had been arguing with her parents about wanting to become an adventurer again, something they forbade. So the family trip to go sightseeing on one of the various voyages saw her left behind, her brothers told she wasn't feeling well as the excuse. The boat was lost at sea and nothing was recovered - no wreckage, no bodies, no nothing.

Orphaned again, the death of her family brought the memories flooding back...and left Tyr conflicted. The memories of her life sailing the stars as an assassin were so clear, but she'd lived another life since then. However it did explain why Tyr always wanted to be an adventurer, to travel and help others. Some part of her previous self had been so ingrained that even without memories she wanted much the same life as she'd had before.

The Calamity had happened just a few years prior, and with nothing left to do Tyr did all she could think of; she joined the Maelstrom, and the Adventurer's Guild. She sold the family home for some gil to make her way and just went from there, essentially kicking off the events of A Realm Reborn.

After the events of Endwalker, and specifically the raid series, Tyr was able to meet her patron deity Nophica. A little outburst convinced the Matron to follow on Oschon's footsteps and take a human form, to live one last mortal life before going away forever. A mortal life with Tyr.

Years later during the events of Dawntrail, Tyr met the Viera Dancing Green, or Eheeya as he had been born. After convincing him to quit fighting in the Arcadion and his admittance to burnout on the point of the 'party animal' persona, Tyr fell in love. Slowly, over time spent with him learning different dance techniques and teaching him hers as well. After a lot of conversations, he agreed to be in a polycule with Tyr and Nophica - a woman who loved nature, a goddess of nature, and a man who wanted to know nature but never could. An unlikely trio, but one that works as Eheeya and Nophica keep each other company while Tyr is handling business as the Warrior of Light.

At some point down the line (I am undecided as to when) Tyr and Eheeya have Yyupye Runekeeper, named for the halos that kept Solution 9 supplied with food. A blending of the traditional Shetona name Eheeya wanted, and a name that means something to Tyr.
