fingerprint Personality
Personality Overview

Morgan's current life is a persona she had created for herself: the adaptable and intelligent businesswoman, professional and charming, one of the few proteges of Nightfall's owner and CEO Natasha Keller. However that persona is a lie. Morgan was born into a dirt poor family, came from nothing; she was destined for a short life as a blood slave until she was rescued. She is scared that real her is worthless, and the persona is all she has to show for herself now.

She is surrounded by wealth and power on a daily basis now, and tries her best to live up to the debt she feels she owes to Nightfall for saving her life. She lives a lavish lifestyle and spends most of what she earns, putting on a show for those around her, hiding behind the persona she created for herself.

Lap dogs, Bubble baths, Fashion shows (the reality TV kind is a guilty pleasure), Spa days, Shopping sprees, open concept floor plans, hot chocolate

Strengths

Adaptable: Morgan learned very quickly how to be a fantastic actress and adapt to her surroundings. She can play whatever part is necessary of her depending on who she's talking to: cold, flirty, laid-back, motherly, aloof, concerned, upset, childish, you name it and Morgan can make you believe it. She molds herself into whoever and whatever she needs to be as the situation calls for it.

Professional: Morgan has trained herself to be the perfect professional no matter the circumstance. She is constantly in professional mode: smooth speech, a ready smile, attentive, hair and makeup and clothes as perfect as possible. There are six degrees of separation from her private life to her professional life. Messy things like emotions or personal attachments won't be an issue with her.

Intelligent: Morgan has well-rounded intelligence. She is book smart, street smart, and well trained in the art of common sense. She is a jack of all trades in that sense, knowing a little about everything, and makes herself well-versed in subjects when she needs to be. She also speaks French fluently in addition to English.

Weaknesses

Insecure: Morgan came from the gutter and was only saved from the life of a blood slave by the grace of Nightfall and Natasha Keller. The life she had built since then is built on a lie, a false persona Morgan created for herself. She is incredibly insecure about that fact, always worried she's going to slip up and reveal the world she came from.

Secretive: Morgan is the perfect person to tell a secret to, as it will never pass her lips again after she's heard it. By virtue of her upbringing Morgan is an incredibly private and secretive person, shrouding herself in an air of mystery… and keeping others out.

Guarded: Morgan doesn't like to let people in. It's hard for her to make friends or share details of her life with other people. She is untrusting of others and tends to treat others with an air of suspicion - outside her professional demeanor, of course. Personal questions, especially about her history, are always deflected.

Friends & Enemies

Morgan doesn't really have personal friendships. She is secretive and guarded in her personal life and doesn't like to open up to anyone outside of her responsibilities to work. She tries to keep people at a distance unless they are clients, employees, contacts, or have some sort of potential to become one of the three. However, returning to Kiri, there may be a chance to rekindle childhood friendships, and Morgan is always down for casual surface friendships, especially if she can get something that she wants from someone.

Morgan's line of work means she's always in harm's way. She is an aware human in a supernatural world, working for a company that plays both the good and the bad and the in between, in a city overwhelmed by high crime and violence. Not to mention, her father Joel left a nasty impression on Kiri from his time there; those who realize Morgan is his daughter may have a problem with her on her father's behalf.

Love & Romance

Morgan's view of love was tainted by her parents' toxic relationship, and thus has zero interest in finding love. This view was bolstered by her mentor Natasha Keller who claims there is no room for marriage or children in their line of work. She is an independent woman who values her freedom and is not interested in being tied down by anyone, let alone risk becoming the walking doormat like her mother.

Morgan enjoys sex and will do one-night stands, FWB arrangements, or brief passionate flings, but she refuses to do love, relationships, or dating.

Condition(s)

She has a mild fear of being bitten by a vampire, and tends to dislike vampires and ghouls in general.

She was close to her grandparents on her mother's side, who continued to support their daughter despite her husband's bad habits until they both passed away when Morgan was a child.

History Overview

Meet Morgan! Morgan is an aware human who is in charge of the new Southwest branch of the organization Nightfall that's set to open in Kiri. She was born and raised in Kiri until she was 15, and is now returning home after a tumultuous life in Las Vegas, Nevada. Her father Joel was a sleezy con-man in the years he lived in Kiri, and Morgan hopes by returning home as Manager for Nightfall that she can make up for all the damage her father did in the city.

She is a protégé of Natasha Keller, Nightfall's owner and CEO, after owing Nightfall a life debt when the company bought her from her parents instead of being sold to a vampire coven her father was massively indebted to. This is her first time holding such a high position in the company and she is determined to succeed where the Northwest branch failed. She has now been running the Kiri branch for 3 years.

Detailed History

Morgan was born to Joel Devereaux and Catrina Reilly in the city of Kiri, Florida, on the North side. Her family was extremely poor due to the unfortunate habits of her father: Joel Devereaux was a con artist, a scheming man who always had a "get rich quick" plan in mind to make his family millionaires overnight. It was an attitude and behavior he had most of his life; by the time he and Catrina met, his family had disowned him and cut off all contact, so Joel was on his own.

Catrina Reilly was meek, weak-willed, and easily won over by Joel's charm and his big plans. They married quickly and found out about Morgan shortly after, before Catrina's parents were aware what was going on with their daughter. Then began the constant cycle that would follow Morgan for the first 17 years of her life: a brief stint where a scheme would work and the couple would come into money, which Joel would immediately turn around and put into the next hare-brained scheme and leave them broke again within weeks.

This is the life Morgan was born into. Catrina was the only one who always seemed to believe in Joel's plans, seemed convinced that one day, one of the schemes would work and they would never have to worry about money again. So the small family bounced from place to place in Kiri, following the money as Joel worked his "magic" on the citizens of Kiri. While he was well aware of the supernatural, it was the one thing Joel did not attempt; he didn't want to risk his life trying to pull a fast one on supernaturals. So Catrina and young Morgan were kept in the dark.

The family often found themselves kicked out onto the street with absolutely no money left to their name; Morgan's maternal grandparents stepped up to the plate on those (numerous) times, taking Morgan and Catrina in to keep them off the streets or ending up in the East or South sides. Most of Morgan's early memories through elementary school are with her grandparents, where they would end up at least three times a year.

It was them that drilled into Morgan the value of learning, believing education to be the only way out of her situation. They also taught her the basics of her acting skills she would use throughout her life, mostly because her grandparents were ashamed of their daughter and son-in-law and wanted Morgan to pretend to be something different than what she was.

Morgan was 10 when her grandparents passed away, within about six months of each other. They left a sizeable fund for Morgan and the house, which Joel quickly moved himself into. Within two years all the money set aside for Morgan was gone, and one of Joel's schemes had them selling the furniture and all the family heirlooms that belonged to Catrina.

It was the first time Catrina really fought with Joel about the money situation; Morgan watched as Catrina argued with her husband for the first time Morgan could remember, swearing that she was never going to let him sell some of the heirlooms that had been in her family as far back as her great-grandmother. Morgan then watched a month later as Joel sold off said heirlooms one by one, as Catrina looked on with silent tears coursing down her cheeks.

Morgan resolved to never be a doormat like her mother after that.

But at least with the house they had a stable place to live; the home was paid off so the only worries came from keeping the electric on and the water running. Morgan was old enough at that point that Joel wanted to bring her with him on some of his "jobs"; Morgan was forced to go on a few, but very quickly learned how to escape using school as the excuse and running off to the library for hours on end. The family was also in luck; while Kiri continued its sharp downward spiral Joel was able to rake in the cash from various odd jobs and "business ventures". For a short time there, they had money coming in on a pretty consistent basis.

When Morgan was 15, Joel's wealthy streak had reached a new height. He got into his head that he was a gambling man, and the family could turn their newfound wealth into something so much more in the city of Las Vegas, Nevada. Catrina was, as usual, easily dazzled by his well thought out "plan", and Morgan's staunch resistance went unheard and unnoticed. They sold the house in Kiri and picked up and moved cross-country to Las Vegas, all on the promise of a shady business prospect and her father plying his new trade in the gambling industry.

Unfortunately, as it would turn out for Morgan, the move to Las Vegas - leaving what had been deemed the 'dangerous' world of Kiri behind - meant that Joel also felt safe enough to start not only his venture into the high-profile world of gambling but the supernatural underground that thrived underneath it. Catrina and Morgan were introduced to supernatural "acquaintances" of Joel's within days of their move to Las Vegas.

This event deeply frightened the both of them. Catrina staunchly refused to entertain the idea of Joel working with the Vampires and Werebeasts of the area, and busied Morgan once again with the laser focus on education, the two of them hoping Morgan could escape their situation through graduation and college. Morgan's goal was to get into a good school in whatever degree would make her the most money and support her family, to cut the cycle they were perpetually stuck in.

Within a year of settling in Las Vegas, the Devereaux family was severely in debt to the same Vampire that Joel had introduced his family to when they first arrived. It was the kind of debt that made a con man sweat, something that wouldn't be so easy to claw his way out from underneath as Joel had done so many times before. They were out of valuables, money, or material objects to sell for a quick buck, and it was harder to steal and sell than in Kiri where Joel and Catrina had both known the neighborhoods. The only collateral Joel could offer as his life and the lives of his wife and child were threatened was one thing: his daughter.

Morgan was 16-going-on-17 at this point: a young, smart, blossoming beauty who had grown up dirt poor and believed her only way out of the life she had always known was through her education. She had managed to keep her nose clean and her head down, but a few unavoidable encounters meant that she ended up on the radar. It was decided to settle Joel's debts and give him another 'chance' was to sell his only child as a blood slave to the vampire coven he was so indebted to. Joel agreed without consulting anyone; believing, in his usual fashion, that he would be able to win or buy her back with ease. Morgan's life began a countdown to the moment she turned 17 and the sale would take place.

Morgan raged against her father when this was discovered. Catrina screamed and cried and swore the deal would never go through… until Joel managed to explain that it was the only way to clear the debt and save them all from an even worse fate, and of course he could get their daughter back before anything could happen to her. It took weeks instead of the usual days, but Catrina was brought around to the idea, and before long would tell Morgan that she needed to do this for their family and her anger was selfish and her father had everything under control.

Morgan knew better. She was terrified at the thought of spending whatever life she had left as a blood slave to a Vampire until she was bled dry, as the Vampire in question was known to be both aggressive and bloodthirsty, and picked their blood slaves at a particular age because most didn't live to see 20. As a result, even to this day she has a mild fear of being bitten or fed on by a vampire.

No matter how much it hurt, Morgan had to give up on her parents and take her life into her own hands. After a year of searching for a solution to save herself, she turned to the place she had been told helped those in predicaments like hers: Nightfall. An organization run by a human that catered to the supernatural underground. Morgan managed to get a meeting with the owner - one Natasha Keller - and threw herself at the woman's feet. Offered herself to Nightfall in exchange for Nightfall paying off her father's debtors to save her own life. In essence, she was still being sold, but Morgan figured whatever price she would pay working with Nightfall was better than the life of a blood slave.

Morgan must have made an impression, because even though she was dismissed that day without an answer, she discovered within the month that negotiations between Joel, the Vampire, and Nightfall had started. The negotiations came to a satisfactory end about two months before her 17th birthday. Nightfall purchased Morgan's freedom and saved her family… although as usual Joel took all the credit. Then came Natasha's end of the bargain: since clearly Joel and Catrina could not be trusted to care for the best interests of their only child, Morgan was to become a ward of Nightfall, with Natasha as her Guardian. Morgan was told to pack what things she owned and was to leave her parents that night.

What hurt the most was the fact her parents gave her up without much of a fight. Not because they didn't love her, but because in their own fantasies they still did not see the harm or danger she was being thrown into. She had escaped the vampires, but had no idea what Nightfall and Natasha wanted from her. She might have made a deal with the devil for a lesser evil. Morgan resigned herself to become whatever Nightfall wanted her to be, having still essentially been sold to them versus the Vampires.

Once they had left, Natasha informed her that she was not in the business of running a slave trade and Morgan still had full autonomy of herself. That she would be under Nightfall's care until she turned 18 and graduated high school but at that point, her path was her own. However, she was to work for Nightfall part time until then, and Natasha hoped she would enjoy the work and prove to live up to all the potential Natasha saw in her. Morgan could tell she was being manipulated, that she was being groomed, but she didn't care. She was alive, and free, and free from her parents, and now had a solid chance to make something of her life. She agreed to the conditions without hesitation.

Morgan started working as the assistant to the Human Resources Manager, who was one of Natasha's oldest friends and had a daughter of her own who was a few years younger. She quickly proved to be great at the job, and the year flew by as she completed her senior year of high school and graduated within the top of her class. She informed Natasha she would like to stay on with the company, if they let her, and Natasha readily agreed. Nightfall then helped put her through a 4-year bachelor's degree so she could work full time in the HR department. By the time she graduated at 22, she was put in charge of several smaller branches of Nightfall in the Las Vegas and surrounding suburbs area while Natasha and her upper management began focusing on expansion out of Nevada.

Nightfall wanted expansion into the Northwest, Northeast, and Southeast corners of the United States, with potential outreach groups across the Pacific and the Atlantic once the United States was fully covered. While the organization was already well known stateside for its supernatural discretion and its ability to handle legal and illegal activities, most clients had to travel to Las Vegas to reach them, and by expanding they hoped to gain more clients and cover more ground. Natasha and management put a plan into motion to cover the Northwest first, while they attempted to find good locations in the Northeast and Southeast.

The fall of the Northwest branch was a major multi-year setback, but it had already been self-sufficient enough that it didn't hurt the organization too terribly to lose it and Natasha immediately set eyes on the Southeast branch instead. Morgan jumped at the opportunity to throw Kiri, Florida into the ring as a potential location, announcing she spent most of her life there and the potential for the company in the failing city was enormous. She also privately thought it a way to try and give back to the city as a way to repay her father's role in destroying it.

The others agreed that the profit margin potential for a Nightfall branch in Kiri made the location highly desirable… however, the city's other tendency for self-destruction and the dangers of the amount of competing black market, criminal gangs, and mafia families in the area, made the others too hesitant to want to send manpower there. Morgan then volunteered to go herself and personally run the branch, seeing as how she had grown up surrounded by the seediest people in town and would be able to navigate it with ease. With Morgan's proposal, Natasha was easily able to rally the investors and turn the plans to the Southeast branch over to Morgan. Meanwhile, Natasha would be able to stay in corporate headquarters and take care of things there and work on the other expansions.

Trust in the entire project was placed squarely in Morgan's hands, and she did not intend to disappoint. She returned home to Kiri for the first time in over 10 years determined for Nightfall to carve out its spot in this already overwhelmed city.

Species Type

Aware Human

Awareness Overview

She has been aware since her mid-teens, and since working with Nightfall and serving as Natasha's protégé, she is well versed on basically every species.

Magical Items/Artifacts

Morgan, being an aware human, has magic-imbued talismans she carries around in order to better care for herself in the supernatural world she inhabits.

She has a CAT-AND-MOON BRACELET she regularly wears on her left wrist that turns hot against her skin whenever a supernatural is within ten yards of her person, and glows a faint twinkling color depending on the species the supernatural is. To unaware Humans the glow appears only to be the bracelet catching the light.

She also wears a CAT RING on her right ring finger, which is a defensive ward that draws on the user's energy to block an otherwise deadly attack from a supernatural or Human against her person, in any form that attack might take. The ward is passive and will activate whenever Morgan is in danger; however as she is non-magical and unable to sustain the ward through the normal magic reserves, it saps her strength and energy with every use and will only ward against five successive attacks. Then there is a cooldown period of twelve hours, to keep the ward from killing her. The ward is only able to be used when the ring is on her finger.
