At the ring of the doorbell, and Bennet’s yell, Connor quickly headed towards the living room, his thoughts now only focused on food and getting it in his mouth as soon as possible. Pizza was one of his favorite parts of the 21st century. And that it could get delivered right to his door so he could successfully live as an antisocial artist.
Bennet paid the delivery boy and then gave him a tip before closing the door behind him. He had a large dopey grin on his face as he turned around, holding two large boxes of pizza. He hoped that Connor was serious about his choice of pizza, because he had gone all out, with random topping choices and such. He put the boxes on the counter then grabbed two plates, "Do you want something to drink? Other than water? Or do you not mind?"
Connor made a beeline for the kitchen. “Just water is fine. Oh and do you want me to pay you back for this?” He asked as he sat down at the kitchen counter. He rested his head on the counter, looking up at Bennet.
Bennet nodded filling two glasses with water, then dropped in a few ice cubes, not really caring if the water splashed a little. "Oh, nope it's fine, as I said earlier, my treat. I like doing stuff for other people." He grabbed a slice of pizza out from his box and put it on his plate. "So uhm, now might be a good time to get to know each other, or even lay down rules. What do you think about that?" He said as he pulled his blanket around him tighter, "I mean, we don't have too, I'm sure there's something else you'd rather be doing."
He nodded and started eating his pizza. “Yeah this seems like a good a time as any I suppose. Sooo..anything specific you want to know about me?” He asked before taking another bite out of his pizza. “Jeez this is really good.” He mumbled to himself.
In the back of his mind Bennet was replaying the conversation he had had with his boss in his mind. He knew that he would need to find out some key things about the guy, especially about why he wasn't in their system. "Well, uh, what are some of your interests? Other than art, I mean, I don't know, do you like, uhm." He looked down at his wrist where he had written down some topics, "Sports?" Thank God that his blanket was covering the writing, if the Connor saw it, that would be pretty awkward. "I think tennis is pretty interesting."
“Uhh..I mean sports are okay. The only normal sport I play is soccer, not that frequently though. I dabble a bit in archery too.” He also had a license to carry a firearm but that’s not necessarily a good thing to tell your new roommate. “I don’t really have that many other interests. Ooh! I do like photography though.”
Bennet nodded, "I like being in pictures, but I am terrible at taking them. And I agree, most sports bore me. I love music though. I like to play music, sing to it, make my own, and stuff of that nature. And I do love to sit around and watch Golden Girls, or read a good book. Do you have a favourite show?" He took another big bite of his pizza savoring the taste, it had been a while since he had last had any, and he loved it.
He happily absorbed all the information, deciding that so far, he liked his new roommate. “For some reason I like watching reality tv, it’s always really funny to me.” He smiled, before thinking of something else. “Oh yeah and sometimes I watch those ghost hunting shows!!”
Bennet nodded, "I know that those ghost shows aren't real, but they still scare me a bit, I guess all the hype that they have around them just stresses me out, and the fact that my imagination likes to run rampant doesn't help too much." He thought that his roommate was pretty interesting, and continued to make notes about him, to return to his boss, "I think that reality TV is funny, and that people that go on those shows are pretty funny. But I do think that some of the people that go on the shows have good intentions, while others just want the attention that comes from it, whether it be good or bad."
Connor mumbled weakly in agreement at the part about the ghost shows. Sometimes they would get something that was real, and sometimes he’d recognize a few demons on there, messing with the show hosts. Which always made him rolls his eyes and typically turn it off. But he definitely wholeheartedly agreed about what Bennet said about reality TV. “Yeah…imagine meeting people like that in real life, that’d probably be weird.”
"I don't understand though, especially on the shows about love, why people are so rude to their partner, then complain saying that is is the other way around, I would thing that a person like that would struggle to find a person, yet people come to them. Then there are the people that are getting, uhm. ..catfished. I think it's such a cruel thing to do, after all, I don't think that the catfisher would like it done to them, but yet most of them do it for the fun of it. And they act as though they enjoy breaking other people's hearts." He served himself another slice of pizza, making sure that it had a ton of pineapples on it, "I guess I just think that people should honestly behave and treat others they would like to be treated. If you would like someone to hurt you like that, and trick you like that, then I guess you can go ahead and do that, but if not, you shouldn't do it to others." He was about to continue before he stopped himself, "I must sound like an idiot rambling on about this, I'm sorry." he smiled sheepishly, before taking a few big bites of his slice.
He smiled softly. “No it’s fine, you don’t need to worry about it. You’re right though. Sadly, most people just enjoy being mean. A majority of the population is self-centered and the media takes advantage of that.” He frowned, his brow furrowing. “So that really sucks I guess.”
"I don't see why, I think that a kind word can go a long way, especially if someone really needs it. Just something to let someone know that they matter, and that people care about them, but a cruel word will be remembered for a long time, and especially if the person is hurting, it could make things much worse." Bennet sighed sadly, "I guess I just really don't understand mean people, but anyways, uhm. . .do you like movies?"
“Yeah I like a few. But I low key have an obsession with all the Marvel movies. I’ve watched all of them several times. I probably watch the Captain America movies the most out of all of them though.” This was as much as his mind would let him ramble and he stopped.
"I'm yet to see any, are they good? I have heard a little bit about them, a spoiler here and there, but not enough to actually understand the plot of the movies. Althoguh from what I have seen they seem pretty nice." He finished up his slice and looked into the box. He had about six slices left, but he wasn't too hungry, plus he didn't have a lot of money to spend on groceries and such, so maybe this could be dinner and lunch for the next day or so, depending on how hungry he would get, "So do you work as a fulltime artist?"
He let out an over dramatic gasp. “Dude if you’re gonna be my roommate then you have to see the Marvel movies. And yes, I do pretty much work as a full time artist. Thankfully, I get a lot of commissions. But sometimes I do have to work a part time job or two.”
"I don't know, about having to see the movies, if I feel like sitting around and watching one or two, I guess I will, but you'llmhave to give me some suggestions." Checking his watch, he began to step away from the table, "I, uh, excse me real quick, I have a call that I need to answer around this time." He headed back to his room and grabbed his laptop. He then double checked to make sure that he had closed and locked the door, and closed the blinds before answering the call. Then, he let his wings come out, it had been quite uncomfortable hiding them the whole day. As he waited for the meeting to begin he quickly recounted some of the facts that he knew about Connor, at least the things that might prove helpful to finding out why he wasn't in the system. All of the humans were there, so that angels could be assigned to them easily, so either there was a glitch in the system, or something was very very wrong.
“See you later then.” He mumbled and he too made his way back to his room. He flopped down on his bed, scrolling through his social media, which either made him smile or want to destroy humanity. It varied from day to day. But thankfully, today it just made him smile. He’d continue to scroll through for the next few minutes until he felt a pain in his eye. He cursed and stumbled to the bathroom, making sure to close and lock the door. “These stupid contacts.” He muttered, fishing the troublemaker out of his eye. He got it out after a few minutes of struggling and sighed in relief. He looked at himself in the mirror, one eye green and the other now completely blood red. “Curse these dumb color contacts..”
Bennet began to fidget a bit with his bedsheets beneath him as he continued to wait, after about a minute or so he was finally admitted. Smiling as happily as he could he greeted everyone on the call then went on mute. He normally didn't say too much during these meetings, he knew that if he said one wrong thing he could be demoted to who knew what. But eventually, it was his turn, he quickly told all the important he information he had gathered on his roommate, what his profession was, what his interests were, but was a little disappointed to find out that they couldn't find him. Then, he was kicked out of the meeting. He muttered a veggie curse under his breath then turned the show back on. Not really caring if he crushed his wings he flopped down on his bed making himself comfortable.
Connor let his eye calm down a bit before grabbing the saline and attempting to put the contact back in. These things were expensive. And while he could definitely do it, he didn’t necessarily want to start making counterfeit money to pay for them. Thankfully, the contact went back in, and he emerged from the bathroom a few minutes later.
Bennet sighed, it had been a couple of episodes and he was growing bored, he had waited a bit making sure that Connor was in his room before he decided to come out. He knew that he could hide his wings easily, and if need be memory wipe the guy of that, or honestly a lot of other options were at his finger tips too Grabbing some pajamas. he headed to the bathroom and found his toiletries quickly, and began to wash up, it was sort of late, and he didn't want to come off as gross or something. He changed quickly, then came out his wings still in full view.
Unfortunately, Connor was in the living room. Luckily for Bennet, Connor didn’t see him. He had his headphones in and was merely absentmindedly staring out the window. The sun was just going down. No matter how long he’d been on Earth, he still always loved the sunsets.
((Oof, I'm sorry this is about to be short, I have no clue what to write, so uhm, sorry. . .))
Bennet turned and noticed Connor, and quickly hid his wings, then while the guy was still looking away grabbed a bottle of water and headed back to his room. Once again, he flopped onto his bed, it was still pretty early, and he had gotten a lot of sleep on the bus, but tomorrow would probably be a busy day for him, at least he figured, not that he really minded though, he enjoyed what he did. Well, he sort of did.
((Dude it’s okay all my responses are hella short XD
Connor only noticed Bennet as he was leaving the room. But he figured it was nothing. He actually appreciated that Bennet hadn’t bothered him. “I should paint another sunset soon..” he muttered to himself absentmindedly. It was a habit he’d accidentally started. Every time he moved somewhere new, he painted the sunset he could see from his apartment. Dorky as hell, definitely. But he enjoyed it.
(Okay, uhm should we maybe time skip or something?))
((Yeah that’d probably be smart))
(Oki doks, uhm do you want to start or should I?)
((If you could go ahead and start that would be lovely))
(Yeah, no problem)
Bennet woke up early the morning, and almost freaked out seeing himself in a completely different room, and not having smushed wings underneath him. He pushed himself up and looked around, it was still sort of dark outside, but the sun had begun to rise. Grabbing a cardigan off his chair his headed onto his balcnony taking in the sunrise and the peace and quiet of that day, then he heard a fire truck siren going off the distance. Groaning he walked back into his room and closed the door behind him, he had always been a morning person, but mornings in the city were new to him, Heaven had always been quiet, with the only noise being the music and songs that were always playing, and the occasionally chatter of the mortals that now lived there. So he figured that he would need to adjust sooner or later, since he really had no clue as to when he would be going back home. And then he remembered that he would need to find a job soon, it had been explained to him over and over that he would need to find a job since they weren't going to pay rent for him. He could only hope that the nearby library had openings. Or really that any jobs would have an opening. Still wrapped in his cardigan he walked out of his bedroom and to the kitchen, he wasn't too hungry from eating the pizza the night before, but it would look a bit odd to never really eat, at all and somehow still live. He opened the door to the fridge and smiled happily, there was actually food in there, he figured that maybe Connor had gone food shopping, so maybe he shouldn't eat any of it. Sighing he closed the door and looked down at his clothes, Walmart should be open right now, and I don't think anyone will think that I'm in pajamas, so screw it, I'm going shopping. He grabbed his wallet and phone and headed out the door. It only took him about an hour to get his groceries and come back, and he was excited to make an omelet or something, even cereal would have made him happy at this point. He opened the door to the apartment, and saw that Connor's door was open, so he figured that he was up as well.
