Melissa held on tighter. "I-I know Lucas… I hate having to watch you like this, b-but there's no other option here." She replied weakly, tears starting to run down her face.
Melissa held on tighter. "I-I know Lucas… I hate having to watch you like this, b-but there's no other option here." She replied weakly, tears starting to run down her face.
Lucas panicked more when the doctor came in, tears rolling down his cheeks. "No… p-please…" He whispered, shaking violently in Melissa's arms.
The man seemed surprised at the sight of the two, blinking in surprise. "Lucas…" Melissa whispered in return, lifting her head. "I'm sorry… but… but you know there's no other option."
Lucas sobbed quietly as he was restrained to the cot and rolled out of the room. "I d-don't wanna go…"
Melissa tried to keep up, but was pushed aside by the doctors when she got in the way. She watched in silence, her heart feeling broken at the tone of his voice.
"Melissa!" Lucas wailed in distress, struggling to get free. The doctors kept him down however and just picked up the pace.
Melissa continued to try and follow, but felt a slight tug on her arm. She whipped around to see her father, Cody held to his chest. "Honey…" He whispered softly, giving her a soft look. Melissa struggled to get free from him, but eventually gave in, letting him pull her close. "B-but Lucas…" She insisted weakly, tears running down her face. "You can't go with him, honey…" Mr. Brennahan whispered weakly, wrapping an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close.
Lucas was taken away from the hospital and transferred to the mental hospital, which was a few minutes drive away. As soon as he was settled into his room, he curled up on the bed and refused to speak at all.
(I'm assuming we'll want to/need to skip?)
(Yep aha. Maybe to when they're allowed to visit?)
(Probably lol. I'm assuming this is a week or so in? After he decided to stay?)
(Sounds good to me)
(M'kay)
Melissa sat anxiously awaiting Lucas, her leg bouncing violently. She had her arms around herself in an almost nervous way. "Relax, honey. It's not like it's been months or anything." Mr. Brennahan laughed softly, squeezing her shoulder. Melissa winced at that, trying to ignore the pain that ebbed through her shoulder at the touch. "I know, but I'm worried about him. I-I don't know how he's taking this all." She mumbled, starting to play with her hair.
After a few minutes, Lucas was led out to the visiting area to sit at a table with Melissa. He looked up at Melissa weakly, his face pale and his eyes dull and empty. He said nothing at all. He hadn't spoken a single word since he arrived at this place.
Melissa felt completely sick at the sight of him. Feeling most of the color drain from her face. "L-Lu…" She whispered weakly, her lips slightly parted. She couldn't conceive any other words, everything catching in the back of her throat.
"I-I'm sorry…" Lucas whispered, his voice broken and weak from disuse. Although he felt empty and drained most of the time, he hadn't hurt himself since his arrival. Not badly, anyway. He just picked at his stitches a lot.
Melissa studied his face, tears stinging at her eyes. "It's that bad…" She whispered, her voice barely pushing through. In her head, she had assumed things weren't as bad as he had thought they would be. One look at his face told her otherwise. "I'm so sorry… I-"
"It's okay, Mel… p-please don't beat yourself up over this…" Lucas rubbed at his eyes a bit, but he was too tired to cry. "I haven't talked to a therapist yet… they just prescribed me some meds. I don't think they're working. I think these are the wrong ones too…"
Melissa felt her heart drop further in her chest, not happy to hear the bad news. "Have… have you talked to anyone about it?" She asked weakly, seeming to ignore his first statement. "You really need to, Lu. I don't want you to… to…" She trailed, not wanting to have to say it.
"I know, I know… I haven't… I-I haven't really talked since I got here. Um… at all…" Lucas sighed shakily and closed his eyes. "I guess I'm sorta accepting the fact that I'm stuck here now."
Melissa thought it couldn't get any worse, but held out for whatever else he may inform her of. She swallowed down the lump in her throat, blinking her burning tears. "W-well… I… um, I may have good news…"
Lucas looked up at Melissa weakly. "What is it?" He asked, his voice still quiet. He fidgeted with the bandages on his arm, sighing a bit.
"We… we got Cody in for service dog stuff… I don't know all the details, but um… he's getting trained." Melissa whispered, hands folded in her lap. She seemed to be stiff, keeping good posture.
Lucas smiled weakly for a second and nodded. "That… um… that sounds good, Mel. Um sorry I'm not as chipper or as better as you probably hoped…"
Melissa's face softened, and she sighed weakly. "It's only been a week, Lu…" She told him softly, sliding her hand across the table. "I didn't expect you to be in any better condition… especially after the way you left."
Lucas held onto Melissa's hand weakly and sighed a bit. "Yeah… I'm sure my panicking didn't make it any easier on you… I'm sorry."
"You don't have to be sorry, Lu." Melissa told him with a ghost of a smile. "I know you didn't want to go… I feel awful for trying to stop you from leaving…"
Lucas shrugged and closed his eyes again. "I don't want you to be sorry either… it's not your fault. None of us had any choice in this matter."
"I-I know… but all I can think about is the sound of your voice…" Melissa admitted weakly, using her free hand to try and hide her face. She felt awful for admitting that, but she was too tired to think better about the words leaving her mouth.
Lucas flushed lightly and looked away. "I-I… um… I'm sorry, Mel, I… I was kinda panicky and I wasn't thinking straight…"
