"Then… I could Face-Time you?" Melissa offered, reaching out to play with his hair. "Or you can see him tomorrow, when we come to pick you up."
"Then… I could Face-Time you?" Melissa offered, reaching out to play with his hair. "Or you can see him tomorrow, when we come to pick you up."
"Okay…" Lucas leaned into Melissa's hand and closed his eyes, whining softly again. "Hospitals are stupid… no wonder dad never let me go to them."
"Mm, I don't think that's the reason, honey." Melissa hummed softly, leaning forward to kiss his forehead. "But if that's what you wanna believe, I won't convince you otherwise."
"Mmmm…" Lucas settled into the cot with a soft sigh. "What time is it?" He asked, looking out the window.
"Ummm…" Melissa paused in her petting, pulling her phone from her pocket. "Ten 'til seven. It's getting kinda late."
"Mm… did I ever eat dinner other than ice cream?" Lucas asked curiously. "I'm not really hungry either way…"
"I don't think so… you had a snack, though. While I was getting changed." Melissa hummed softly, noting she needed to eat something when she got home.
Lucas nodded a bit and shifted to be more comfortable on the cot. "How long do I have to stay here?"
"I dunno, love. Over-night at least. Probably until after school, tomorrow." Melissa hummed, starting to play with her hair.
Lucas whined a bit and closed his eyes. "But that's gonna be so boring…" He whined. "What am I supposed to do all day?"
"Uhh… sleep? Listen to music?" Melissa offered softly, pulling her hair over her shoulder to mindlessly braid it. "I don't have much else for you. Sorry…"
"Mmmmmmm…" Lucas buried his face in his pillow, whining louder in protest. "But I gotta go to baseball practice!"
"Lu, even if you could go to school, you could barely hold the spoon I gave you. You are not going to practice." Melissa insisted, glancing over to him. "I love you, and that's why I'm telling you that you can't."
Lucas sighed. "Fiiiiine… will you call me during break? I'm gonna get so looooonely here all by myself…"
"Mm, I think I can do that. And as soon as school is over, I'll come back here. How does that sound?" Melissa asked softly, giving him a soft smile.
Lucas nodded a bit and reached out to hold onto Melissa's hand. "And you'll bring me my homework and some notes?"
"Of course I will." Melissa hummed, giving him her hand. "Will you need anything else? Or is that all, for now?"
"Mm… pretty sure I'm good for now." Lucas yawned a bit. "I love youuuu~…" He crooned in a slightly slurred voice.
"I love you, tooo~" Melissa sang back, lacing their fingers together. She was still smiling softly as she sat there with him.
"Really?" Lucas smiled and tightened his grip on Melissa's hand a bit. "Awww, thaaaanks, Mel~…"
Melissa laughed softly, scooting closer up to him. "I do love you, quite a bit." She hummed a little, leaning down to kiss him softly. "I also think you're getting sleepy. Do you want me to go home, and get you blankets, still?"
"Suuuuure… you'll be back soon though, right?" He asked sleepily. "These drugs are really messing with my head…"
"Mhmm, if my dad drives me, I'll be extra quick." Melissa hummed, kissing his forehead as she started to stand. "You think you can wait for me?"
Lucas nodded a bit, not letting go of Melissa's hand when she stood up. "You gotta come back soon, okay?"
Melissa gave him a sweet smile, nodding a little. "Of course, Lucas darling. I'll come and kiss you goodnight."
"Okaaaay… come back soon…" Lucas repeated, reluctantly letting go of her hand and curling in on himself.
Melissa gave him a little smile, reaching over to pet his head a couple of times. "I'll be as fast as possible." She hummed softly, starting to head towards the door. Her father got up as well, and followed her out.
Lucas stared blankly at the ceiling and allowed himself to zone out. By the time Melissa and her father returned, he'd torn off his bandages and had fixated his eyes on the wounds underneath, using every bit of self control he had to not tear them open.
Melissa came upstairs alone, a bag with blankets in it hanging off her shoulder. Gently she knocked on his door, before pushing the door open with a little smile. "Hey, Lu."
Lucas didn't seem to hear her, only staring at his arms. A lot of the skin was shredded, and the bigger wounds were stitched up. The bandages were the main thing keeping the smaller wounds together, and he'd ripped them off.
