"I'm sure, Lu. Really, go sit. I'll be fine." Melissa insisted, pulling what she needed from the fridge.
"I'm sure, Lu. Really, go sit. I'll be fine." Melissa insisted, pulling what she needed from the fridge.
Lucas sighed and complied, heading into the living room as instructed and laying down on the couch with Cody on his chest.
Melissa silently made them both sandwiches, taking in the moment of silence. With both of their food plated, she carried them into the living room, smiling at the two boys on the couch.
"Thank you, Mel…" Lucas sat up a bit with Cody still in his lap and accepted his plate from Melissa. "Love you~…" He murmured before biting into his sandwich.
Melissa gave him a soft smile, kissing his forehead. "Of course, darling. Love you too." She hummed in response, sitting at his feet on the couch.
Lucas returned the kiss and kept eating, trying to force himself to relax. Cody yawned and sniffed at Lucas's sandwich.
Melissa gave a soft smile, forcing herself to eat the half of sandwich she hadn't finished earlier. "After dinner, do you just wanna lie down and try to sleep?"
"Mm… maybe, but probably not. I don't think I'd be able to fall asleep, to be honest…" Lucas sighed softly to himself.
"Alright… is there anything you want to do, instead?" Melissa asked softly, glancing over to him.
Lucas shrugged. "We can watch TV or something if you want… I don't really have any preference, to be honest."
Melissa glanced over to him, her face hinting she was worried for him. But she didn't say anything about it. "I don't really care either. Maybe we could get ready for bed, and put a movie on?"
"Sure, sounds good to me. I'll… I'll go do that." Lucas grabbed some fresh clothes and headed into the bathroom to change.
Melissa watched him walk off, before glancing down to her half-eaten sandwich. Sighing softly, she forced herself to finish it off before heading upstairs to get ready herself.
Lucas was sitting on the couch when Melissa returned, eerily quiet and toying with his sleeves. Cody whined softly at him, pawing at his leg.
Melissa glanced over to Lucas, feeling somewhat sick when she saw him. Something was wrong- something he wasn't telling her. "Lu?" She called out softly, coming up behind him.
Lucas jumped a bit when he heard Melissa's voice, a guilty expression falling over him. "I'm sorry…" He whispered weakly. Cody whined again and lay his head in Lucas's lap.
Melissa's face grew more and more confused, coming and kneeling down next to him. "What's wrong? Are you okay?" She asked softly, reaching to take his hand.
Lucas flinched subtly when Melissa touched his hand, his heart pounding. "I cleaned them all up and wrapped them and stuff… it's not even that big a deal… I just… I-I'm sorry…"
Melissa was still confused, slowly realizing what he meant. He had hurt himself again. "Lu…" She whispered, standing up enough to sit on the couch. "Honey, why didn't you come get me? I could have helped you."
"Y-You were changing, and… I handled it… I'm fine." Lucas looked away, rubbing his forearms a bit. "Cody isn't very happy, though… he knows something's up."
Melissa fell quiet, just watching him in silence. Internally, she was tearing herself down; she knew she shouldn't have tried to talk to him earlier. 'This is all your fault. You knew this would happen…' Swallowing down the lump in her throat, she wrapped her arms around him before pulling him close. She didn't have anything to say to him, feeling like she would make things worse if she did.
Lucas exhaled shakily when Melissa hugged him, just going weak in her arms. "I'm so sorry, Mel…" He whispered. "I d-didn't mean to… I swear. I just… I-I lost control of myself again…"
"It's okay, Lucas… I know you don't do it on purpose." Melissa whispered in return, resting her chin on his shoulder. "We can just sit here, until you're feeling better. I know you're still a little off from everything earlier."
Lucas nodded weakly, wrapping his arms around Melissa. He wasn't quite strong enough to grip her tightly at the moment. "B-But I should've been able to control myself, Mel…"
"Lucas, honey, it's really okay. I promise you I'm not mad- or even upset with you. I'm worried if anything." Melissa whispered, kissing him softly. "You don't have to 'control' yourself. I know it isn't as easy as that, and you do too."
"I'm such a horrible boyfriend… I-I'm supposed to protect you and I just cause problems and need attention all the time…" Lucas sighed.
"Come on, Lucas, don't be so hard on yourself." Melissa whispered, kissing his shoulder softly. "I knew what I was signing up for when we started going out. I knew where you came from, and I realize you're the one that needs support right now."
"But you need support too, and I'm in such a bad place mentally that I can't always help you… And I feel horrible about it…" Lucas held a bit tighter to Melissa.
"I mean, yeah, sometimes I do. But until we've gotten you to a better place, I can handle things on my own. You don't need to feel bad." Melissa insisted in a soft tone, starting to rub circles into his back.
"But I do… I'm such an asshole… you deserve help too, Mel." Lucas looked up at Melissa weakly, tears pricking the corners of his eyes.
