Melissa huffed out of frustration, pouting just a bit. “It’s not fair… I want you to get better, but this is frustrating…”
Melissa huffed out of frustration, pouting just a bit. “It’s not fair… I want you to get better, but this is frustrating…”
"I know, Melissa. I wanna get better too, and I also want you to get better, and I don't think this is the place for you to do so."
Melissa nodded weakly, still wanting to protest. But she kept quiet for the time being. “I wish I could just take you home…”
Lucas smiled weakly as he looked up at Melissa. "Yeah, I know… I wish I could go home too, but this is where I need to be right now."
Melissa nodded a little, starting to get up once again. “Um… could- could I have a hug?”
"Sure, Mel." Lucas wrapped his arms around Melissa and buried his face in her shoulder, sighing softly.
Melissa curled up close, chin resting on the top of his head. She held in tightly, not wanting to have to let go. “I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve had a proper hug…” She whispered, nosing up against him.
"Mm~…" Lucas held tight to Melissa as well, keeping his face buried. Being held like this clearly relaxed him somewhat. He'd had little to no contact with anyone since he'd arrived.
Melissa was practically sitting on his lap, but if he didn’t mind, she didn’t mind. “Mmm… this is the first thing I want to do when you get out… a long, satisfying hug…” Melissa trailed, nuzzling up against him.
"Sure, Mel… we can spend hours at the clearing, alright? It'll be nice to have some fresh air after being stuck here for ages…"
Melissa nodded a little, kissing his head a few times. “Mhmm… and Cody can be there.”
"Yeah, I'm sure he'll like to come…" Lucas melted into Melissa's gentle touch, happy to let her hold him close for now.
Melissa smiled brightly, wrapping her arms around his neck. “I think we’ll all enjoy it… maybe we could bring snacks and stuff, and spend the whole day there..?”
"Sounds good to me, Mel." Lucas hummed softly to himself as he considered. "Just enjoy the great outdoors…"
"Yeah… me and you, together…" Melissa whispered, starting to pull back a little. "I love you so much."
"I love you too, Mel." Lucas sighed and allowed Melissa to pull away. "I'm sure it'll be lots of fun when I get out. Until I have to do all the makeup work…"
“Oh hush, don’t ruin this by talking about homework.” Melissa huffed, kissing his forehead. “I want you to not worry about that. We can deal with it later.”
"But I can't just forget about it! It's gonna take me so long…" Lucas sighed softly. "That's gonna be like, at least a month of missed work."
Melissa groaned, dropping her head on his shoulder. “Nooo… I don’t wanna talk about that… you’re gonna be busy, and I won’t be able to see you again…” She whined some more, curling up close again.
"You'll see me, Mel… I'm sure I'm gonna need your help." Lucas laughed softly. "I'll have missed tons of lessons."
Melissa sighed weakly, nodding a little as she nuzzled up into the crook of his neck. “Mm… I’ll do everything I can to help. But I won’t do it for you.”
"I know, I know… I'm not asking you to, love. Don't worry." Lucas flushed a bit when Melissa moved closer.
"Mmm'kay… just making sure you knew." Melissa smiled softly, pulling back with a soft sigh. "I bet I have to leave in a couple minutes, huh?"
Lucas nodded a bit. "Yeah… our time is almost up. Come back to visit soon, though, alright?" He smiled weakly.
"Of course, love. I'll come back as soon as I can." Melissa smiled in return, kissing him once more. "You and Cody be good, alright?"
"We will, Mel. Have a nice day." Lucas kept up his weak smile as he held Cody closer to himself.
Melissa smiled softly, stepping back. "I guess we need to head out." She told Mr. Brennahan, who was already getting up, in a soft tone. "Mhmm. We gotta head back to the house. Take care of yourself, Lucas." Mr. Brennahan nodded softly, starting out towards the door. Melissa started to follow, but stopped in her tracks. "Oh! Um, here." Melissa mumbled, quickly setting a letter down on the table. "I almost forgot. I'll see you later, Lu."
"Bye!" Lucas waved a bit and got to his feet, looking up when Melissa set down the letter. "Oh! Thanks, Mel." He smiled softly as he picked up the letter and returned to his room, opening it as soon as he went back.
Similar to last time, the subtle scent of Melissa's perfume filled the room. But it was different from last time. Instead of the gentle vanilla, it had a more flower scent to it; but smelled like Melissa none-the-less.
Hey love,
You know what I always say; there's no need to apologize. You did nothing wrong, and I don't blame you for anything that's going on. Sure, it's tough, but I'm tougher. Don't you think?
Well, anyways, clearly you know about the Cody situation. As he's with you currently, it seems silly for me to tell you what's going on. Besides my dad apparently started looking into it a couple weeks before you even had to leave home. I'm not sure how he knew, but I'm grateful it meant he could come to you sooner… though I miss him at the house. And you. It's honestly so quiet at night, I'm definitely not a fan. But I'll be fine, so don't you worry about it.
I'll stay as strong as I can. With everything going on, I don't think I have much of a choice… I don't want to worry you, but I feel like you deserve to know. Dad has been getting in more and more fights with my mom. I don't know what it's about, or what's going on, but I know it's a constant thing. And- well, mom has been extra snippy towards me.
You don't have to worry about this, I just thought I'd let you know. Mostly just in case I seem extra… moody one of these days. School, work, and everything else in between is also starting to get on my nerves. So just a heads up. I don't want to snap on you, and not give an explanation.
Well, that's all I have for you. I love you bunches, and hope to see you soon. Give Cody extra love for me, alright?
Love,
Melissa
Lucas smiled softly as he read the letter and grabbed some paper so that he could write one of his own.
Darling,
Although there's no need for apologies, I'd still like to say I'm sorry you got dragged into this. Even if neither of us did anything wrong. You're definitely tougher. You're the toughest person I know.
Your dad is really smart. It's great that he could get Cody the training early. It definitely helps me to have him here. He's been wonderful. I'm sorry that you're feeling lonely… as much as I'd love to just come home and give you a big hug and tell you it's alright, I can't do that in person, so you'll just have to use your imagination.
I honestly don't know how to help you with your parents. My parents did that a lot, but I doubt I handled it well. I mostly just tried to get out of the house to the clearing or the sunflower field. You're welcome to try that if you want, darling. Make sure you keep working hard, okay? And talk to the therapist. They can't help you if you don't tell them anything, and they're not allowed to tell anyone, so you're safe. Stay strong, Mel! I love you so much! Cody says hi too.
Love,
Princess
He spent another couple of hours drawing himself with Cody on the back of the paper before he folded it up and put it in a homemade envelope.
