"Mmmm…" Lucas shifted to be a bit closer to Melissa and relaxed again. Soon, he drifted off into a light sleep.
When he did, she smiled lightly and pulled her phone out. It had been going off like crazy for the last five minutes, but she didn't want to ignore Lucas.
Lucas yawned a bit in his sleep and huddled close to Melissa. He sighed quietly, smiling a little.
After responding to all the texts she had received from her 'party planning crew', she set an alarm to go off in the next twenty minutes or so. Deciding she wanted to take the quiet moment, she curled up closer with a soft sigh. If she fell asleep, she had a backup plan.
Lucas melted into Melissa's touch, falling more deeply asleep. He seemed to be content and comfortable for now.
As Melissa drifted off, she couldn't help but curl closer. The stresses of her week vanishing as she did slip off.
(Shall we skip?)
(Yep lol)
Lucas jolted awake when the alarm went off, his heart pounding. He looked around to try and figure out where he was, steadily relaxing when he realized he was just in the clearing.
With his sudden movements, Melissa woke up in a start. "Mm… is everything okay?" She asked softly, still seeming tired from the short nap. Rubbing at her eyes she glanced up at him.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry… the alarm spooked me for a sec." Lucas sighed, running his fingers through his hair. "I'm alright."
"Mm, you sure?" Melissa asked softly, before resting her head back on his shoulder. "You're playing with your hair."
"Am I?" Lucas sighed, forcing himself to lower his hand. He rested his head against Melissa's. "Really, I'm alright… it just woke me up suddenly and it took me a sec to remember where we are."
"Alright, I just wanted to make sure." Melissa hummed lightly, smiling a little when he leaned against her. "We should probably start thinking about heading back. I don't think we want to be walking in the dark."
"Alright… let's head back, then." Lucas dragged himself to his feet and held out one hand to help Melissa up.
Huffing a bit, she took his hand and pulled herself up. "I said we probably should… not that we had to." Melissa mumbled, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Well, it is getting dark, so we should probably go ahead and go back home." Lucas smiled softly and kissed Melissa, wrapping his arms around her as well.
"Oh probably." Melissa mumbled, looking up to him with a soft sigh. "How has your birthday been so far?" She asked gently as she reached up to play with his hair.
"It's been wonderful, Melissa." Lucas closed his eyes and relaxed into Melissa's touch, smiling softly.
"Mm, happy to hear that. Later tonight, we can sit out on the roof if you want." Melissa offered in a soft tone, pecking his lips.
"Sure. That could be fun." Lucas smiled and took Melissa's hand, beginning to lead her out of the forest.
Reaching out, she grabbed her phone and the box of leftovers before following along. "I wish I could do more, but everything costs a lot of money. If I had gotten a job, today would have probably been more exciting."
"Melissa, don't blame yourself. I know you've been trying." Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek. He'd managed to get a job as an assistant baseball coach, which didn't pay fantastic, but did bring in some money.
"Not hard enough, apparently. I'm honestly getting down to some jobs that are barely going to pay me." Melissa sighed softly, resting her head on him. She had been trying, and it was painful not to be able to be working as she knew Lucas was.
Lucas sighed softly. "I'm sure you can find something… maybe you could be a singing or piano tutor or something? Have people come over so you can teach them?"
"Maybe… though I don't know if my mom would like that. I also don't want to bug my dad." Melissa sighed softly, looking up at him. "Also, where did singing come from? I've never sang in front of you before, to my knowledge."
"Well, I like your voice… I think it's nice." Lucas flushed lightly and looked away. "I-I think you'd be good at giving voice lessons."
"But- I still don't understand. Have you heard me sing?" Melissa asked in a soft tone, looking up at his flushed face. "I won't be upset, I just want to know."
"U-Um… yeah… sometimes I can hear you when you're singing in the shower…" He flushed harder, struggling to meet Melissa's eyes.
Her own face flushed a bit, and she laughed lightly. "I think you might have been listening for it." Melissa teased, tilting his chin to meet her gaze.
Lucas was very red by now and closed his eyes, whining softly. "N-No, of course not! I… I-I mean, once I noticed it, I'd listen, b-but I didn't actively go looking to listen or anything…"
