"Then I wouldn't complain about attention, Lu." Melissa chirped a bit, poking the tip of his nose. "I can give you all my attention, trust me."
"Then I wouldn't complain about attention, Lu." Melissa chirped a bit, poking the tip of his nose. "I can give you all my attention, trust me."
"I was joking…" Lucas whined playfully. "I don't know how much more attention I could handle."
"I know you were. But if you actually feel like I'm neglecting you, just tell me. I don't want you to feel lonely." Melissa hummed as she smiled at him.
"You're not neglecting me, love. You're doing great." Lucas gently kissed Melissa's cheek again, smiling softly.
Nodding a little, she smiled back. "Happy to hear that, love. I don't want you to feel like that again." Melissa hummed softly.
"Mhmm…" Lucas sighed happily. "We really need to get back, though. We've dawdled long enough."
"Noooo~" Melissa whined with a pout. "I don't wanna go back… I like it here with you."
"I agree, but we still gotta go back home at some point, Mel." Lucas smiled gently.
Still pouting, she started to walk on. "Fine… but I still don't want to." Melissa mumbled, gently pulling him along.
"Neither do I, believe me." Lucas sighed, looking around as Melissa led him along. "But alas, we must."
"Well, at least I get to give you my present when we get back." Melissa hummed, turning around so she was walking backwards. "You still promise not to protest?"
"Alright, alright. I'll try my best, Mel." Lucas held onto Melissa's hand, watching where they were walking so Melissa wouldn't run into anything.
Giving him a light smile, she pulled his hand up and placed a soft kiss to the back of his hand. "Mm, thank you."
"You're welcome." Lucas picked up the pace so he was walking beside Melissa. "We're pretty close now."
"We are?" Melissa hummed, turning around when he mentioned it. "Oh- we are."
"Mhmm." Lucas smiled softly and continued walking. Soon, they arrived at the house and he opened the door.
The living room was dark, and Melissa stood besides him with a bright smile. Reaching over, she flipped the lights on. "Surprise!" A crowd of people shouted, most seeming pretty excited to see Lucas's reaction.
Lucas jumped and froze up, his heart quickly beginning to race. He went pale, trying to process the situation, but clearly overwhelmed. He clung tightly to Melissa's arm.
"Hey- relax." Melissa told him in a soft tone, gently petting his arm. "No one is going to hurt you."
Lucas swallowed and forced himself to calm down a bit, loosening his hold on Melissa. He exhaled shakily and looked around the room.
Noting he was still shaky, she slowly wrapped her arms around his waist. “I take it you were surprised?” Melissa asked in a soft tone, glancing over to her father with a soft smile.
"Um… y-yes. I was not expecting this many people." Lucas laughed weakly. He hesitated for a few seconds before continuing further into the room.
A couple of his teammates smiled and waved when the two walked past them. “I really should have thought this through, a little better.” Melissa mumbled, pulling back.
Lucas waved back to them. "It's alright, Mel. It's a surprise party for a reason. I was definitely surprised."
"I know… I didn't think it would startle you, though. So there's that." Melissa mumbled softly, leaning over to peck his cheek.
Lucas shrugged and returned the kiss before continuing to walk. "Um… what should I do?" He asked. "It's been a long time since I've had a birthday party."
"I think my dad has some stuff set up outside." Melissa hummed, giving him a light smile. "Like corn-hole, or if you've ever heard of it, spike ball."
"I haven't, but I'll give it a look." Lucas smiled softly, sticking close to Melissa to avoid the crowd.
"Do you want to grab a drink first? I don't think anybody is in the kitchen." Melissa offered, starting to lead him that way.
"Um… yeah, sure." Lucas followed Melissa to the kitchen and sighed softly. "What do you have to drink?"
