Lucas nodded a bit. "I might go by too if your dad lets me, but my hopes aren't high."
Lucas nodded a bit. "I might go by too if your dad lets me, but my hopes aren't high."
Studying his face, she nodded. "Yeah, if you can't make it downstairs, I don't think you'll make it to the park."
"Yeah… I hope I didn't scare him too badly with the whole blood thing… I've heard it can be kinda frightening if you're not used to dealing with it."
"Did he seem distant, and closed off after it happened?" Melissa asked lightly, watching as another car went by.
Lucas considered for a few seconds before shaking his head. "No, not really. He mostly seemed worried, which is understandable. He was really trying his best to help me relax. I really feel like he wants me to be comfortable here. He's treating me like his own son."
Melissa nodded a little, starting to zone out a little. "Makes sense… him and Gabriel were never really close. Honestly, none of us were. Me and Gabe were the closest out of the whole family. Even my parents are kind of distant from each other. With you and me, he probably feels like this is a second chance." She admitted without much thought.
"I guess so…" Lucas hummed softly in thought and was quiet for a few seconds. "I'm probably a pretty shitty son, to be honest. I mean, he's going to be worrying all the time. Can't help but feel bad for the guy…"
"I mean, I wouldn't consider you to be. Yes, I'd be worried about you, but I'd be happy to care about you after everything you've been through." Melissa hummed, reaching up to run her fingers through his hair.
"Yeah… I kept apologizing and he said something like that. He doesn't blame me for having problems like this since he knows what I've been through
I just think he might've found out today that it's worse than he thought… he seemed really worried."
"I'm still worried about you, Lucas. And I know how bad it is." Melissa whispered, holding on to his hand tightly. "Literally anybody with a heart would be worried about you."
Lucas flushed a bit and looked away. "Y-Yeah… I mean, I can see why it would be worrying, and I can't control it, but… I don't want people to have to worry about me…"
"You're gonna be out of luck, then. Until you get help, and you stop having nightmares, I'll be worried about you." Melissa said softly, going to rub her face, but stopped. "Mm… I hate makeup. I can't rub my eyes when I have it on…" She mumbled under her breath with a soft sigh.
Lucas sighed softly and nodded. He glanced up when Melissa mentioned her makeup. "Mmm… but you look so nice, Mel."
Glancing over at him, she laughed lightly. "Thanks, Lu." Melissa sighed as she kissed the top of his head. "Honestly that means a lot."
"I think you look fantastic without it, though." Lucas kissed Melissa softly. "You're always beautiful in my opinion."
Her face was starting to creep with a soft pink. She wanted to argue, but had promised she wouldn't. "Thanks, Lu. You really have no idea."
"No idea of what, hmm?" Lucas lay his head on Melissa's shoulder, smiling softly.
"How much your words effect me. How they build my confidence." Melissa whispered, gently resting her head on his. With a soft sigh, she gave his hand a gentle squeeze.
Lucas smiled a bit more brightly and blushed a bit. "I'm glad, Melissa. I love making you feel better about yourself, because I think you're pretty nifty."
"Mm thanks, Lu." Melissa hummed a little, still smiling a little. "I love you, and think you're pretty nifty as well."
"Love you too, Mel." Lucas ruffled Melissa's hair and rested his head against her shoulder.
Melissa felt a smile pull up, and she leaned down to kiss the top of his head. "I hate to do this, but we should head inside before my mom gets home."
"Yeah, probably… you might have to help me in, though." Lucas dragged himself to his feet with a sigh.
"I'll happily do that." Melissa hummed, grabbing her half drank glass of water before coming up by his side. "Just let me know."
"Yeah, I'll just… go ahead and… yeah…" Lucas took Melissa's hand and leaned into her for support.
Smiling softly, she pecked his cheek. "I like getting to help you." Melissa hummed, pulling the door open when the reached it. "It gives me a sense that you trust me."
"I definitely do." Lucas returned the soft smile and carefully stepped into the house.
Falling quiet for a moment, Melissa waited until they made their way up to the couch to speak again. "I honestly don't deserve it…"
"Your trust? Why wouldn't I trust you?" Lucas asked, sitting himself down on the couch.
Sighing softly, she sat down next to him. "I… I may have, just not… ate anything today. Even though I know I should have… I just- didn't." Melissa whispered, taking a glance at him before staring at the floor. "I don't know why I didn't… I just couldn't make myself."
