Nodding lightly, she dropped down next to him. "I know you do, but I also know you probably don't want me around 24/7. Even I get tired of myself."
Nodding lightly, she dropped down next to him. "I know you do, but I also know you probably don't want me around 24/7. Even I get tired of myself."
Lucas shrugged. "It's nice being able to be around someone who I know cares about me all the time. It's… it's comforting, I guess."
Melissa sighed softly, scooting closer to lean against him. "I know the feeling. It's really nice to feel loved."
Lucas nodded a bit, leaning his head against Melissa's. "I just… don't wanna be alone again." He sighed. "Even though I know you'd never abandon me, I like having you around all the time because then I know you're still here and alive and stuff…"
What he had said seemed to hit her with quite a lot of force. It was something about the way he had said it, that made her feel even worse for him. "I promise I'll do my best to stay alive." Melissa whispered, trying to not think about his statement too hard.
"Mm… thanks, Mel… sorry if I upset you or anything." He wrapped one arm around Melissa and held her close.
She shook her head a little, looking up to him. "No, you didn't upset me. Just threw me off for a second."
Lucas nodded a bit and rested his head on Melissa's shoulder. "Sorry for throwing you off, then."
"You don't need to be. I just wasn't expecting what you said." Melissa shrugged a little as a soft smile pulled up.
"Mmkay…" Lucas closed his eyes and sighed, relaxing against Melissa. "Thanks for sticking around, Mel."
"Of course, love. I wouldn't dream of leaving." Melissa hummed a little, mindlessly watching everyone out in the yard.
"Mmm…" Lucas yawned a bit and huddled closer to Melissa, relaxing further. "Today was fun, Mel… thank you."
"I'm glad you had a nice day," Melissa hummed, kissing the top of his head. "I hope we can have more days like this… minus the surprise party."
"Mhmm… you've got the list thing on your phone and stuff." Lucas opened his eyes to look out at the people in the yard.
"That's true… we'll have to pick a few days so we can go do some of it." Melissa mentioned, voice soft. "We'll see what happens."
"Mhmm… you're coming to the baseball game on Friday, right?" He asked, turning his gaze to Melissa.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world. I want to get to see your face when you win.” Melissa joked a little, resting her head on his.
Lucas flushed a bit and closed his eyes again. "I-I hope we win… we've been practicing a lot."
"I'm sure you will. I really want to get to take you to get ice cream again." Melissa smiled brightly, laughing softly.
"Yeah… I like the ice cream." Lucas hummed thoughtfully. "I wanna make coach proud… he picked me as captain, after all."
"Again, I'm sure you will. You're an excellent player, I'm sure he's plenty proud." Melissa replied, reaching up to lace her fingers with the arm wrapped around her.
Lucas sighed softly and nodded, huddling a bit closer to Melissa. "I hope so… I wanna make sure he made the right decision."
Melissa looked up to him with a little smile. "I think he did. I think he made the best decision."
Lucas flushed again and buried his face in Melissa's shoulder. "M-Maybe… I'm still not quite sure."
"Well, just ask him after you win the game on Friday. I guarantee he'll tell you that he's proud." Melissa hummed, reaching up to run her fingers through his hair.
"Mmkay…" Lucas relaxed when Melissa started petting him, but kept his eyes closed for now. "Thanks, Mel…"
Melissa only smiled softly in return, continuing to play with his hair. There wasn't much she needed to say in response.
Lucas smiled a bit as well, leaning into Melissa's touch. He yawned again and shifted to be more comfortable.
"If you're falling asleep, I probably shouldn't let you." Melissa mumbled lightly, feeling a yawn of her own come on.
"Mmmm… probably not… but I'm comfy…" Lucas whined, sighing softly and reluctantly opening his eyes.
