Lucas sighed a bit. "Mel, y-you really don't need to… um… it's not that bad…" He got to his feet and started swaying, his vision shifting in and out of focus.
Lucas sighed a bit. "Mel, y-you really don't need to… um… it's not that bad…" He got to his feet and started swaying, his vision shifting in and out of focus.
Melissa stood up immediately after him, gently pulling his arm over her shoulders. "Not that bad, huh?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine… I'm just kinda unsteady… no big deal…" Lucas planted his feet in an attempt to steady himself, drawing in a few wavering breaths.
"Lucas Mulbright, you are not okay." Melissa insisted, wrapping her arm around his waist to support him. "You seriously need to be sitting down, right now."
"Honestly, I've experienced worse… this… this should be nothing… for me…" Lucas gripped the cot he was standing next to with one hand and started breathing more heavily.
"That doesn't matter. What matters, is that you're not doing so hot right now. So please, for my sake, sit back down and wait for my dad to get here." Melissa pleaded with him softly.
"Fine… fine… I'm gonna have to walk out to the car anyways, though…" Lucas sighed and sat back down, the pressure in his head temporarily subsiding somewhat.
"I know that, Lu. But there's no point in getting up while he's not here." Melissa pointed out in a soft tone, pulling back from him a bit. "So stay sitting."
"Mmkay…" Lucas closed his eyes and leaned back against the wall weakly. "When's he getting here?"
“Well, he said he had to finish up what he was in the middle of. So when he finishes, he should be here in a bout ten minutes.” Melissa said softly, sitting down next to him with a light sigh.
Lucas nodded a bit, keeping his eyes closed. "The light hurts…" He murmured weakly.
“I’m sorry, Lu… do you need me to get you anything?” She asked softly, lightly resting her head on his shoulder.
He shook his head. "I don't think there's too much you can do, to be honest… I kinda just want to go home…"
"Well, as soon as he gets here we can." Melissa told him, linking their fingers together. "And I'm going to take care of you."
"Mmkay…" Lucas was slowly growing weaker as he leaned against Melissa. "I'm so tired…"
"Lu, I don't think you should be trying to sleep." Melissa told him softly, lightly pushing him off so he was sitting up. "That's not a good idea, with a concussion."
Lucas whined softly. "I know… but m'head hurts so bad… when am I allowed to sleep?" He asked, looking up at Melissa weakly.
"I- I'm not sure." Melissa told him, giving him a soft look. "You're probably going to have to wait awhile… make sure you don't throw up, or something."
"Mmm…" Lucas sighed and closed his eyes again, struggling to stay awake. He just hoped that Melissa's father would arrive soon.
With the next few minutes going by, Melissa felt her phone buzz and saw a message from her father. "Lu, he's here."
"Mmkay…" Lucas dragged himself to his feet and winced. He'd thrown away the ice by now, so his badly bruised cheek stuck out a lot.
Grabbing both bags, she carried them both as she went and wrapped her arm around his waist. "Come on, let's get you home."
Lucas nodded and allowed Melissa to help him get outside. He was walking somewhat okay now, but he was still very unsteady.
Once they made it out to her dad's car, Melissa pulled the back door open so he could get in. "Are you able to do it yourself?"
"Do what myself?" Lucas climbed into the car, basically collapsing, but managing to get in well enough.
Once in, she pulled up a light smile. "Never mind. I'll put our bags in the trunk." Melissa told him softly, shutting the door.
"Mmkay…" Lucas pushed himself up and buckled himself in with a sigh. "Good afternoon, sir… sorry you had to come pick us up."
Turning around his seat, he waved it off with a light smile. "It's nothing to worry about. I'm more concerned that you're alright. 'Specially with that bruise on your face."
"Ah… right. The nurse says I have a concussion." Lucas fidgeted a bit. "Is it bad?" He asked. "The… uh… the bruise, that is."
Mr. Brennahan shook his head a bit, watching as Melissa made her way around the car. "Not too bad. But bad enough to tell it's there."
