"Who did you think it was?" He asked, looking up at Sorin. "Do you think it means anything?"
"Who did you think it was?" He asked, looking up at Sorin. "Do you think it means anything?"
"Probably not. It could be my mind just playing tricks on me."
Cas nodded, relaxing a bit. "Yeah… you're probably just tired too. Nothing to worry about." He shifted so the makeshift ice pack wasn't just freezing one spot of his neck.
"Oh, right," he took notice of his shift. "Sorry."
"No problem…" Cas yawned, letting his eyes slowly close again as he got used to the coldness of the peas.
Sorin struggled to keep his eyes open, not wanting to drift off and forgetting to move the peas to the areas occasionally. But he was beginning to submit to his exhaustion, closing his eyes as his breathing slowed.
A glimpse of a dark shadow prevented him from completely dozing off. He blinked and narrowed his eyes on the kitchen, but saw nothing there.
Cas was half asleep by now and wasn't particularly responsive, so he didn't notice any of Sorin's subtle movements.
He gently propped him off his chest and stood up. Sorin yawned and squinted at the kitchen as though something might jump at him at any moment. Unfortunately, it did.
His eyes widened as a shadow zoomed past him and into the basement to which Sorin followed immediately.
Cas curled up into a ball in Sorin's absence to keep warm, falling into a deeper sleep. With his eyes closed, he couldn't see the shadows.
The air felt thinner, the atmosphere darker as he tentatively walked down the steps. He made sure to shut the door behind him in case whatever was down there decided to fly past him and to Cas. "Hello?" A part of him wished he had brought something with him– a knife, maybe? A little too late for that now, he thought.
Cas opened his eyes blearily once Sorin being gone set in. He yawned and sat up, growing uneasy when he didn't see Sorin. "Hello?"
His eyes glowed a bright gold, his tattoo pulsing as it felt more eerie. Sorin scanned the area, finding nothing but he couldn't help but fix on the area furthest away from him. It was a small, cramped corner though, that space seemed darker than the rest of the basement. He tilted his head slightly and narrowed his eyes but jolted when bright red ones stared right back.
"Sorin? You there?" Cas called out into the eerily quiet house as he stood up. He looked around before walking towards the basement, his footsteps echoing in the dense silence.
"Berenice?" He backed up slowly when the figure began to chuckle.
"Wrong." The figure stepped out from the corner and all darkness that had surrounded the area subsided, giving Sorin a clear view to who it was. It was her lover, the one whom Berenice had been with, the one whom she had a child with– the one Kyoko had a deep rooted hatred for. "Under the orders of Her Majesty, I am here to take you home."
Sorin looked back at the door and swallowed hard, hoping Cas hadn't woken up.
"Are you down here…?" Cas pushed open the basement door. "Soriiiin?" He called out again, starting to get worried.
The guy– Shen, pressed a finger on his own lips. "That boy of yours can't see me. Wouldn't want him to think that you're talking all by yourself now, so, i'd advise you to stay quiet."
"L-Love? Where are you?" Cas's voice wavered as he kept coming down the stairs. "Oh, thank god…" Despite how dark it was, Cas could see quite well. He ran over to Sorin and hugged him tightly.
"Cas, hey… You shouldn't be down here, you should be resting," Sorin wrapped his arms around him and kissed the top of his head.
Shen tilted his head and smiled softly, running a hand through his long black hair. "He's quite pretty." Sorin's jaw tensed at that.
"Well, I woke up and I didn't see you, so I got kinda nervous…" Cas turned his ears back as he kissed Sorin's jaw. "I'm glad you're okay. Don't scare me like that, love."
"I'm sorry, Cas…" he glanced at the other, who towered over the both of them. "You need to go back."
"Why?" Cas glanced over to where Sorin had looked. "What're you looking at? Is something wrong?"
"Oh no, nothing's wrong," he ignored Shen's snickering next to him. "I just… you need some rest. Don't strain yourself even more."
"Well, come back up with me, then." Cas shrugged. "You know I don't do well with being left alone."
"Aww, so precious," Sorin ignored him and shook his head.
"I'll be up there in a second… I just need to organize those weights over there."
"Alright… please be quick, though." Cas reluctantly let go of Sorin and went upstairs, feeling very uneasy.
"You know," Shen's gaze remained fixed on Cas as he went up the stairs and focused elsewhere when he was out of the basement. "I wouldn't mind taking him as well."
"You wouldn't dare." Sorin said flatly and crossed his arms. "I'm not going anywhere."
Cas curled up on the couch and closed his eyes, trying not to think. He knew he'd blow the situation out of proportion if he let himself think, so he just zoned out and did his best to stay calm.
"I know," he leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. "Honestly, I was hoping you'd say that. I'll let you go."
Sorin raised an eyebrow as he went to go sit down on the bench press. "Oh? Is this your way of apologizing for stealing her away–"
"I didn't steal her away," He held his gaze, his scarlet eyes boring into him. "She came to me and no, i'm here to offer an exchange for your… 'freedom'."
Cas started pacing when he couldn't sit still and bit down on one of his knuckles to channel some of his anxiety. It wasn't getting him much more than sharp pains shooting through his hand, but he didn't stop.
"I want you to locate someone for me. You don't necessarily have to do anything else other than that," he handed him a small picture to which Sorin hadn't even bothered to look at. He shoved it in the back of his pocket and crossed his arms. "Or, if that's too much for you to handle, you could always trade in that boy of yours to take your place."
