Alyssa paced outside of Becca's room, her eyes shut as she tried not to cry. She bit her lips as the doctors worked, going between Ace's room and Becca's. She sighed and sat down between the two rooms and cried softly into her knees. She looks at her phone, deleting her ex fiances number and sighing as she let the tears finally fall.
It was hours before Becca returned to her room but she looked worse than when she'd first gotten into the place. The nurses looked anxious and the doctor looked disheartened. "Excuse me, miss? I can only assume you know Miss Charles since you're hanging by her room. We have an update, well, more of a downgrade, of her condition." He sighed, clearly stressed. "Miss Charles has fallen into a coma after emergency surgery to fix a punctured lung. We're unsure if she'll awaken."
Alyssa looked up when the doctors addressed her. She looked at the doctor, her eyes widening as she heard the news. No… this couldn't be happening. Ace had become so happy with her and now this…? She was going to have a word with Becca's mother. And possibly a few law suits. She nods, swallowing back a lump in her throat. "I… I understand… Please… please do what you can to help her." She whispers, clutching her hands to her chest as she tried her hardest not to cry. "She means the world to my little brother… I can't lose her and then lose him too…"
(Stepmother, don't sue her actual mother, her real mother actually cares)
He smiled faintly. "Of course, miss. They do seem to light up each other's lives. Young love is always the most noticable." His smile faded and he stood back up. "We'll try our best to help her wake up but there are no guarantees that it'll work and then we'll have no choice but to pull the plug on her."
(Got it)
Alyssa shook her head. "I won't let anyone pull her plug… I'll pay the medical expenses… just please… keep her alive." She whispers, glancing at Becca. "She's important to me and Ace. We can't lose her." She whispers, looking down. She was trying to hard not to cry.
He sighed quietly. "We won't for now. We'll try our best to wake her. But eventually, you'll have to make the decision on whether or not it's worth it to keep her living like this." He walked back into her room, the nurses still buzzing around her like a small swarm of bees.
She nods as he talks and the moment the doctor left she collapses, sobbing into her hand. She didn't know what to do anymore. If she had to pull the plug on Becca, it would be pulling two instead of one. Ace wouldn't commit suicide. He cared to much about Max. But… He would die. His heart would become cold and bitter. Not warm and happy as it was now. She was doubting so much now. Even her own will to stay in this world. But she bit those thoughts back. Alyssa sat down and cried. She sobbed into her knees, unable to stop the tears from falling now.
The nurses had moved Ace back to his bed and one of them stopped by Alyssa on the way back to Becca. "You should probably tell him what's going on once he wakes up. I know it sounds unthinkable but he deserves to know." Her voice was soft and her smile was apologetic. For both Alyssa having to go through this and having to explain to her brother that his girlfriend might die.
Alyssa wiped away her tears, nodding. "Y-yeah… I'll have to." She mutters quietly, sniffling as she does so. She stands and walks to her brothers bed, sitting down and gazing at her little brother. He had been through hell ever since he was little. She sighed and ran a hand through her hair.
The nurse stood by her side for a little bit. "He should wake up pretty soon. The anesthesia doesn't last that long." She smiled at Alyssa before returning to Becca, leaving the two alone for now.
Alyssa nods before gazing at her little brother. He twitched and groaned, slowly sitting up. "Alyssa?" He mutters softly. "Where's Becca… Oh no! Becca! Where is she?" He looks at her, panic all over his face. Alyssa broke down to tears.
Becca wasn't doing too hot. Apparently the internal damage from all the abuse was more than the doctors had previously expected which was why the punctured lung snuck up on them so much.
Ace starts when he saw his sister cry, having never seen her cry before. He looked around and drew her into a hug. She sobbed into his shoulder. He rubbed her back, listening to her spill everything. Ace felt something in him crack, and he went deadpanned.
She looked dead, in every sense of the word. She looked pale, thin, and with all the wires sticking out of her, it seemed like they were forcing a dead body to come back to life.
Ace went cold. Laying back in his bed, he turned away from Alyssa. She ran a hand through his hair but he slapped her hand away, curling in on himself.
The doctors were still making sure that she wouldn't die while connected to the life support, although they were quite worried about how Ace would react to the news that his girlfriend could die.
Alyssa stood and sighed, looking at her brother in concern. He had curled in on himself, hiding his face from her. She bit back tears before leaving his side. She needed to get out of the hospital.
They wondered if he'd come see her. She seemed to have made him so happy. Well, when she was awake. But maybe just being by her would keep his spirits up.
It wouldn't help him one bit to see her like this. He was already so broken. Seeing her in this state would break him completely.
Despite her outward appearance, she was still alive. She could still feel and hear and see. Well, she could see blackness but it was still seeing. And she was terrified. What was happening? Why couldn't see move? Why were the doctors talking about pulling life support? Was she dead? No, that was impossible. She was definitely alive.
Ace pulled himself out of bed after a moment and carefully walked to her bed. He pushed past the nurse and sat at the side of her bed. "Please wake up…"
She would've smiled if she could move. Ace! Oh my God, thank the stars it's you. What's going on out there? Why can't I move? Why am I stuck in this void?? Please, help! Don't leave me to drown in the darkness…
He runs a hand through her hair, kissing her forehead. "I-I need you to wake up, beautiful… Please…" He whispers, his voice cracking. "I need you to wake up…"
Her heart hurt at his tone. I wish I could, I really do. I just don't know how. It takes some much strength that I don't have. Please, don't give up on me, don't let them take my life away. I'm here! I swear, I'm here! I'm listening!
Ace sobbed softly. "I really need you to wake up… I know you can do it, baby. You're so strong…" He whispers, kissing her forehead. "You're stronger then anyone I know. I need you to wake up for me, okay?" He held her hand tightly and cried.
She wished she could just hold him close and tell him she was okay but she couldn't and that hurt. Well, maybe I do something! Even if it's small, maybe it'll be enough for him to know I'm there. Now, just gather your strength, I know you can do this. It took a lot of effort and strength but her fingers twitched. Sure, it was tiny, but it happened and she was exhausted. Hopefully that'd be enough for him.
He saw her fingers twitch and he smiled a little. "I know you can do it baby. I know you won't give up…" He whispers. "Keep trying… But I know you're alive." He whispers, kissing her hand.
She was tired just from that. Trying to actually wake up required a lot more strength than what she had. I can't. I can't do it. I'm not giving up on it just…not today. She felt weak already. At this rate, it'd take weeks before she could ever even think about trying to wake up.
He kissed her hand, holding onto her tightly. "J-just… please… Please stay with me…" He whispers, holding onto her hand as he cried quietly.
I will, I promise I will. I won't leave you Ace, I won't. I couldn't do that to you. I love you. If only he could hear her. She didn't want him to cry over her, she wasn't worth his tears but she couldn't tell him that.
