Ace clung to her hand for dear life. He didn't want her to leave. Didn't want her to die. He didn't know what he would do without her. She was his rock, his foundation. She helped him, she loved him, she didn't care about his transition. She cared about him. He needed her with him.
A couple minutes later, a woman with two police officers behind her came in. If Becca had been awake, she would've been mortified. Why? Because the woman standing there was her stepmother. The very person who put her in this hospital in the first place. "Make this quick ma'am, we don't have much time." One of the officers instructed. "It's my own stepdaughter, I will take my time with her if I want!" She snapped before stepping closer to Becca.
Ace stood and growled. "YOU!" He hissed, standing in front of her, "You're the one who put her in this hospital! You're the one that abused her! And now she's dying! You evil, pathetic, disgusting excuse of a human!" He shrieks, his eyes venomous. He was holding himself back from attacking her since the cops were there. "I hope you rot in hell!"
She didn't look scared. Well, certainly not scared enough. "I didn't do anything! She was just fine until you came along! Why do you even care about her anyway? She's worthless. Trust me, you'll feel better once she's gone." She scoffed.
"She's my girlfriend! And you're the one that beat her, hurt her, and placed her here! I hate you!" He hisses, his breathing heavy. "Burn in Hell!" He hisses. He didn't lay a hand on her, but he looked pissed. He wanted to strangle her. "Get out."
"Excuse you! You have no right to tell me what I can and can't do! This is my stepdaughter and I wish to spend some time with her while she's in the hospital. You're the one that needs to leave."
"The step daughter you abused!" He yells, standing in front of Becca protectively. "I wish it was you in her place! You loathsome pig!" He growls. "Ugly, horrendous and evil. You're everything I despise!" He screeches. "And furthermore! You're lucky my sister and I aren't suing you and your pathetic, asinine ass! You only care about her now that she's almost dead! Filth!"
"That is completely unacceptable! How dare you speak to me in such a way! Boys like you never really care. So come on, admit it, what's the real reason behind why you 'care' about her?" She crossed her arms, a faint smirk on her lips.
Meanwhile, Becca had just been listening, horrified that her stepmother was there but falling for Ace all over again when he started to defend her. She twitched again, her strength starting to return to her.
"I care about her because she's kind, gentle, supports her friends and family, and tries her hardest! She smiles no matter how much pain she's in. She's more then just beautiful. She's breath taking inside and out! And you are nothing but dirt compared to her, you fat pig!" He hisses. "She's stronger then you physically and mentally, and she deserves a better step mother then you! You're nothing more then trash that infects this planet! And if the cops weren't here, I'd put you in the same state she's in!"
"Ooo, is that a threat?" Her smirk only widened. "You say that now but soon enough, you'll leave her too. Just like everyone else. You'll get what you want then you'll find someone better and leave her behind. And she won't say shit because she's weak. She'll never make it in the real world so why don't we just pull the plug now? It's highly unlikely she'll wake up anyway."
"I won't give up on her. And I won't leave her. No matter what you think or say, I will always love her. You're jealous aren't you? A daughter more beautiful then you, her vain mother. She told me you got rid of all the mirrors in the home." He growls. "I won't give up on her, unlike you, an unworthy, bitchy slut who just wants people for their money." He hisses. Alyssa enters the room. "Ace? What's going on? Who is this witch?" She asks, gazing up and down at Becca's step mother.
"Me? Jealous? Of what? She's certainly not pretty and even she knows that! Her personality is basic, that's just a fact, so that's out. I have no reason to be jealous of that waste of oxygen behind you." She sneered.
"The only waste of oxygen is you ma'am. Now please. You're upsetting patients. I will ask you to leave please and that is not a request." The doctor entered, holding a clipboard. He nods to the police. "Please take this woman away. She is no longer welcomed as a visitor in this hospital."
The officers nodded, each one taking one of her arms and dragged her out again. Becca was still twitching, though know she could start to curl her fingers. She'd been working on this the whole time, trying to get her strength back to wake up fully.
Ace returned to her side. "You're step mum is a bitch." He chuckles softly. "But don't you worry, love. I don't plan on leaving you any time soon. And you aren't leaving me. Keep trying to wake up for me… Okay? I know you can do it." He whispers. The doctor sighed softly. "Son… I know you're trying to keep your head up, but we can only give her so much time…" Ace shook his head. "She'll wake up. I know she will."
She paused her fingers and redirected her twitching to her face, her lips just barely pulling up into a smile before relaxing again. She wouldn't leave him, she'd promised that. But going through this process was difficult.
He smiled when he saw her smile. "I know you can do it baby." He mutters, taking her hand and squeezing it gently.
She paused all movement. She could do this, she just needed to gather her strength. She had to focus. And in a sudden burst effort, her eyes shot open and she gasped. She sat up, coughing and recovering.
Ace stumbled back before smiling gently. He kissed her hand quickly. "I knew you could do it, angel." He whispers. He holds onto her hand tightly, smiling widely.
She fell back, trying to relax. "I'd be more than happy to never have to go through that again. I hated that."
He nods and the doctors bustle to her side, taking vitals and making sure she's okay before leaving the two alone. He smiled and kissed her lips gently. "I'm glad you woke up… I never would have let them pull the plug… I knew you would wake up."
She smiled faintly. "Well that's good to know. I'm more surprised that you didn't tear my stepmother to pieces. You sounded pissed."
"I was very pissed. But the cops were there." He says, scratching the back of his head. "And I have a record with the juvey detention center." He laughs a little. "So… I had to behave." He kissed her forehead. "I would have if the cops weren't there."
"You and me both." She muttered under her breath. Maybe not in this town but she definitely had a record. She smiled a little. "Well, I'm happy you behaved but it would've been entertaining to hear you rip her to shreds."
He laughed gently and kissed her forehead. "My sis is getting a restraining order on her, so she can't come anywhere near you, me, or her." He mutters gently.
"You really don't have to do this. I'll be fine on my own." She twisted her hands together, refusing to look him in the eye. She'd learned how to lie through her teeth at a very young age.
"I wanted to." He mutters gently, kissing her forehead. And I can tell you're lying love." Ace was a natural lie detector. He holds her gently and smiles at her.
She frowned slightly. She didn't want to be anyone else's problem. She'd promised herself when she was younger that she would never make herself a burden on anyone else, even if it hurt her.
"You're not a burden to me or my sister. She's already dubbed you family and I will love you no matter what." He mutters gently, kissing her forehead. "I love you. And together we can face anything."
She wasn't listening. She was lost in thought. "This isn't healthy." She finally spoke. "It isn't healthy for someone who needs as much care and attention as me to be left in the hands of you. And that isn't just me talking, even my own therapist says so. Maybe it'd be better if you just left…" She pulled away from his grasp, curling up on herself.
