"Which is understandable. You don't have to tell me everything that's going on in your life, but I just want you to know you can." Melissa told him lightly, still scanning over the clouds.
"Which is understandable. You don't have to tell me everything that's going on in your life, but I just want you to know you can." Melissa told him lightly, still scanning over the clouds.
"I know I can, Mel… thank you." Lucas laced his fingers with Melissa's, smiling weakly.
A soft smile creeped up on her lips, as she held on to his hand tightly. "I love you…"
"I love you too, Mel." Lucas pulled Melissa close so that he could kiss her. "So much. Thank you for everything, love."
"Of course… I want to keep you happy, and it seems to be working." Melissa hummed, kissing him back before curling up close.
"Mhmm…" Lucas rested his head against Melissa's, smiling softly. Cody trotted up and flopped down between the two of them.
Melissa giggled softly, reaching out to pet him. "I think he wore himself out." She hummed softly, stroking Cody's soft fur.
"Seems like it." Lucas laughed a bit as well, scratching behind Cody's ears. "Should we take him home?"
"Mm… probably…" Melissa mumbled, not moving from her spot. "But I just want to lie here… it's nice."
"I know… we can come back tomorrow, though." Lucas looked over at Melissa and started to get up.
"Noooo…" She whined, trying to keep him next to her. "I don't want to go home…"
"But we gottaaaaa. It's already been half an hour. Your dad is probably waiting for us to get back, Mel."
"But Luuuu…" Melissa continued to whine, laying back against the grass. "I'm tired… I just wanna stay…"
"You can go to bed at home. Your back won't thank you if you sleep on the ground. I could carry you back, theoretically, but it would be easier if you walked."
"But walking is so much work…" Rolling on to her side, she sighed weakly and started to sit up. "And it's nice outside. I like being outside."
"Well, maybe we can lay in the backyard. How does that sound, Mel?" Lucas asked, sitting up beside her.
Melissa pouted, trying to find every little thing to complain about. Though she doubted Lucas would budge. "We still have to go home, though…"
"Mhmm. We wouldn't want to keep your father waiting any longer, Mel." Lucas got to his feet and held his hand out to Melissa.
Waiting a couple of seconds, she continued to pout. "But I don't want to go home…" Melissa insisted, pulling herself up.
"I know you don't, Mel, but we can't stay here forever." Lucas kissed Melissa softly and started walking, Cody trotting along at his side.
Following along half-heartedly, Melissa kept a hold on his hand as they walked. "I wish we could. We'd never have to go to work, or school."
"I know, I know… and that would be lovely, but unfortunately not very feasible." Lucas continued walking.
"A girl can daydream…" Melissa sighed softly, pulling up a weak smile. "It'd be wonderful if we could. But I know it isn't possible."
"Mhmm. It would be very nice, darling." Lucas hummed thoughtfully, heading back in the direction of the house.
Melissa smiled softly, dropping the subject after that. When she had said she was tired, she had meant it. As they were walking along she felt like she was starting to nod off while leaned up against him.
"Careful, Mel…" Lucas murmured. After a few seconds of hesitation, he carefully picked her up bridal style, the leash hooked around one wrist. He kept walking with a soft sigh.
Melissa squeaked in surprise, holding on to him tightly when picked up. "I- sorry… you don't have to carry me." She mumbled softly, her face flushed.
"You're falling asleep. It's not safe for you to be walking, especially so close to the road." Lucas continued on, adjusting his grip on Melissa so she would be more secure.
"I don't want you to have to carry me, though. You're already holding on to Cody's leash." Melissa insisted, hesitating before resting her head on his shoulder. "I can stay awake long enough for us to get home."
"It's fine, Mel. We're almost there anyway." Lucas kept walking, soon coming up to the house.
