Not to learn magic as it is seen as the devil testing your faith. Only the clergy are allowed to study it to protect their flock.

Since the the W-Day, the hand was interpreted as the will of God passing judgement. It radicalized a lot of temperate God-fearing Christians.

Some call them "Fundies" and have taken the bible waaay more seriously and literally. They tend to focus more on the Old Testament and wrath. During the 3 year war with the Aemara, some leaders of the faith even sided with the horrendous beasts to decimate their perceived mutual enemies.
This act of human betrayal disillusioned their followers. Either they became Atheists or converted to another religion. It became cringe-worthy to associate oneself to Christianity.

After a few terror attacks, Canada and parts of the US, and Latin America revoked tax exemptions to previously recognized churches and groups.

This was a big blow to the faith as they lost a bit more legitimacy in the public eye.

So the faith pivoted back to a guiding principle of charity, piousness and aid to the downtrodden. But being hobbled economically, it became a sort of underground faith. Back to the early days.
Which only made the remaining followers more zealous and self-righteous.
