Promotions - How are promotions handled at Mage?

Promotions are handed with through ceremonies. When a mage ranks up, they receive a certificate and a special ribbon.

At the graduate rank, they officially become Mages and wear the classic pointy hats.

Ranks - What's the hierarchy at Mage? What ranks are available?

1st Initiate
- Mages usually become initiates at 14-15
- They don't have jobs but they have training

2nd Apprentice
- Apprenticeship can happen at any age above 14
- Skilled mages usually become apprentices at 16 years old.

3rd Primary Scholar
- At this stage, the apprentice has joined a school to train. - - This is usually at 16 - 18.
- They don't actually become primary scholars until they graduate from their first year.

4th Secondary Scholar
- At 18 - 19, a skilled primary might graduate from their second year and become a secondary scholar.
- This is the stage where a majority of mages in training move to more advanced education.

5th Graduate Mage
- A secondary scholar might attend 4 years of advanced magusology aka University.
- If they get enough credit they can be officially named a graduate mage and will be awarded a degree as well as the signature pointy hat.

6th Master Mage
- A graduate does another 4 years of magusology to get a master's degree.
- They recieve the universal emblem of magusology; The golden ring.

7th High Mage
- One must be a master mage to be promoted to High Mage
- Promotions can require a mastery of at least 3 elements
- Master Mages most swear to the high mage oath which is maintained with a binding spell.
- Promotions can only be given by the Mage's Guild or directly through The Naturalis Magicae Association
- Once promoted, High Mages will either be assigned to an Archmage (by a choosing ceremony) or they can work freelance.
- Most High Mages are freelance, some by choice and others from being rejected by an Archmage.

8th Archmage
- There is only one archmage per element
- Each arch mage has a high mage or two as their second in command.
- When an archmage dies, the high mage they trusted the most will be promoted to archmage.
