6 small red apples, such as Fuji or Gala
6 bamboo chopsticks
3 cups sugar
1 teaspoon unseasoned rice vinegar or white vinegar
ΒΌ teaspoon red food coloring
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
Rinse the apples and dry completely with paper towels.
Press a bamboo chopstick into the top of each apple, about half or three-quarters of the way through, just until it's in tightly; do not go all the way through the apple.
Wipe any juice away and set the apples on the baking sheet.
