What makes a dragon, a dragon?

They come in many colors and sizes.
Some have leathery wings, others have feathers or even no wings at all.
Most bear scales, but smooth skin isn't unheard of.
Four legs or two or six? All possible.
Breath weapons ranging from elements to enchanting clouds.
Hoards of treasure, but what 'treasure' means is up to each individual.

As such a dragon is, obviously, somewhat hard to define. Yet most would know a dragon if they saw one, and most are not dangerous.

Smaller varieties make their homes in cities and populated places, often kept as pets similar to cats or dogs. Larger ones make their lairs where they can, and most live in The City of Song where they and the humanoids they've chosen can live in harmony. Dragons are long-lived, most able to endure for hundreds or even thousands of years, and rarely do they change - so for the few who are not so nice, it's best to stay out of their territories lest they decide to attack.
