West Sanus
Vacuo, The Desert
Arid to semi-arid, West Sanus is largely comprised of a vast desert, with the exception of the mountainous north. Once the location of a vast oasis, the paradise that is now the location of Vacuo City has been entirely lost to mismanaged resource development & environmental catastrophes. Few permanent settlements exist within the regions boundaries, as the land seems
to mandate constant movement from its residents in order to find food & brief shelter from the sweltering sun. The area seems to be constantly changing, with tiny pockets of water appearing seemingly overnight, and vanishing without a trace days or weeks later. Much of the areas coastline is largely inaccessible, though smaller ports do exist, largely made up of tiny fishing villages. A few island communities are technically within the domain of West Sanus on the south
side of the continent, but the majority of trade, commerce, and mayhem resides within the capital city itself.
700,000 (with far fewer being born there)
Surrounded on three sides by the various oceans of Remnant, one of which is a deep bay, West Sanus does not have other significant sources of water apart from scattered and increasingly difficult to find tiny oasis's throughout the region.
Dust & mineral rich, terrain is inhospitable & therefore easier to defend, lack of governmental oversight makes for profitable business opportunities
Isolated, harsh environment, small population, lack of Grimm defense, lack of unifying government, lawlessness, environmental exploitation, lack of infrastructure

Exportation is booming, but much of the profit is gained elsewhere in kingdoms like Atlas, as raw material is shipped out of the otherwise desolate areas within West Sanus & refined and then sold to the rest of Remnant. Little of the economic prosperity that a resource boom promises finds its
way into the hands of those native to the area.
Export: Dust, minerals
Import: Water, Atlesian tech (CCT towers, mining equipment etc.)
What little tourism exists is largely kept to the border along Vale, with few making the trip through the desert out of anything other than necessity. It is not so much that those who call West Sanus home dislike tourists, more that they would be genuinely confused if not a little concerned about anyone claiming to be there just on a visit. And with the region's history involving the rest of Remnant and their exploitation of the environment, they'd also be likely met with suspicion.
A mix of limestone & granite in the north, baked adobe houses in the central desert region & colorful tents scattered throughout, there is also not infrequent signs of gleaming metal mining structures that seem to pop up like a cancer, baring Atlesian crests. There are also not uncommon signs of those same, once pristine mining camps, sandblasted & crumbling, slowly sinking into the ground or scavenged as make-shift shelters where more permanent structures have never been.
You're just as likely to see derelict camper vans housing a family of five, as you are to see a dangerously leaning shack made entirely of odd, ill fitting bits of sheet metal in places no one in their right minds would ever choose to be.
If the heat, lack of water, ever changing sands and wildlife, both Grimm & otherwise, don't kill you, the bandits might.
