Fill her empty heart (writing book/diary), satisfy Imogene (other) unlike the other homunculi, Cordelia has no interest in escaping the carriage house, much less to live. She follows Imogene with an almost puppy-love attention purely out of her contempt towards her late fiancee- the man responsible for both of their deaths.

She lets her sorrow and self-pity cloud her actions, and because of her desire to please Imogene, she acts incredibly cruelly towards Gregory, their human ward.

However, her beliefs are very heavily influenced by an overly-romanticized idea of her role in aiding fugitive enslaved people out of the South- she sees herself as a savior less than she sees the value of the lives that she aids.

Her book/ diary that she constructs throughout her time in the Carriage House. It details her life previous to her time as a homunculi, as well as the previous lives of the other homunculi. She was born to wealthy plantation owners in Louisiana but moved in with her cousins in Oak Woods, Alabama in her late teens. Because she had many siblings, her parents allowed her to move to marry a young man in another place, as Cordelia had never really wanted to stay in Louisiana her whole life.
