Kayleth was born and raised in the Black Shroud along with his people, existing mostly within the caves that run through the forest. Forgotten.

The caves held an abundance of life, things that Kayleth learned to use to help everyone; how to care for the bioluminescent insects they captured in the forest so they had light, what mushrooms were edible or toxic, where the various systems led...but he always wanted more.

Finally he had his chance. An arrangement was being made to transfer an artifact his people held in the caves, and Kayleth asked to be the one to escort it. His plan was to go 'missing' on the way back, disappear into the city and finally start making a life for himself.

The artifact was delivered to the Free Company that V'mallo Marsh was part of, and as soon as Kayleth saw her he was awestruck. It was for her, some Allegan relic that she seemed to instantly understand. Wanting to learn as well, Kayleth explained his situation, asked to stay, and was allowed to do so. Now he mostly assists Astraea Fulgris in medical matters and otherwise minds the house while the group is gone, doing other odd jobs around Ishgard to earn some coin and his keep.

Because several timelines exist for these characters things can get a bit confusing, so I wanted a space to give a small explainer of this.

Please be aware there may be spoilers for any point of the game's story, so read at your own risk.

The Primary Timeline is Kayleth still with his people.

The Secondary Timeline is the one that you can safely assume applies to most of the information on this page about Kayleth. It's also the timeline listed in his history section.

The Tertiary Timeline is more of Kayleth and V in the background as their son, V'raka, helps the Warrior of Light. This is more 'dad' Kayleth era with bad jokes and overprotective father mode to the Gen 2 Echoes.
