Born within Northern Jyta as a single child, Toshiko always tried to do things "right". Born into her wealthy family, high in the Dragon Caste of Jytan culture, they held wealth and influence. Because of this, Toshiko got the best education, and after the dust of the cold war between Qereni and Jyta settled, became a part of the Embassy, bid her family Farwell, and moved to Qerani, to the capital city of Ayesenne.
Qerenian culture shocked Toshiko, but she grew to like the freedom it gave her in the small things, such as dress or hairstyle, but still never straying from her tasks and values.
Until she met Warren Tenniel, a fellow worker at the embassy. The two couldn't hold back their attraction for each other, and began a relationship. It escalated quickly, beyond anything Toshiko was prepared for, but she rationalized she would marry him soon. However, Warren seemed to avoid such topics.
During their affair, she learned, abruptly and the worst way possible, the reason of Warren's aversion. Warren was already a married man to Allieson Carroll and already a father to a toddler ( Lewis Tenniel ) and another baby on the way ( Alice Carroll ).
Toshiko mourned, realizing the damage she had caused, and left her job at the embassy, and returned home.
She wished to keep her infidelity secret, but as to her horror she realized she was pregnant, and the people of her Caste soon noticing, she confessed before the council.
The council ruled her guilty within the sacredness of Dragon Caste ritual, and her and her family were cast two sets down. Additionally, she could not abort the pregnancy, partially because she did not have it in her, but because of the rules of the land. She was punished, just as all adulterers are, with her right to an Jytan officiated wedding revoked. So long as she lived within Jyta, she could not be married, and no marriage preformed illegally within the country or outside, would be recognized. As such, all social, economic and traditional benefits of such were taken from her.
She brought great shame to her family, especially her mother, Haruka Tatsumi. Her father, Rihito Tatsumi, who leaned towards a more anti-heirarchy viewpoint, was more forgiving.
Her pregnancy came to an end, and to Toshiko's dismay, she had twins. Post Partum hit her hard, and she could not bare to be near her children, and did not name them, cursing them as their wailed, seeing the familiar blue of her old lovers eyes as specs in their hazel.
Rihito Tatsumi was the one who named them, naming the older, although by a few hours, Mizu Tatsumi, and the younger, louder one Sora Tatsumi , as their cry shrilled like wind between the mountain.
