After allying with the merfolk, the moodancers were blamed by other land races for escalating the war. Following the Burning of Serenity Forest, the moondancers were hunted to near extinction. History books called them nightfiends, erased their culture, and taught the next generations that the nightfiends were a malevolent race of beings cast aside by the Moon Queen herself.
Evelune's mother was a survivor of the initial genocide that massacred most of her race. While disguised as a human, she fell in love with a man whom she trusted enough to share her secret with. Together, they travelled the land and settled on the outskirts of a peaceful town where they raised Evelune.
When Evelune was six, merfolk invaded the town one night and found her family's home. They would have blind-sided the entire family had her father not grabbed a weapon and retaliated. He bought them time to escape, but he was struck down inside the house. Outside, Evelune's mother tried to reason with them, saying that moondancers and merfolk used to be allies as lunar-aligned races, but the merfolk revealed that they too only remembered them as fiends.
Her mother summoned her magic and took advantage of the night's darkness to fend them off. Frustrated, the merfolk left, but not before setting their house on fire. However, with her husband still trapped inside, Evelune's mother wanted to save him.
Evelune protested that it wasn't worth it. He gave his life to save them, and she did not want to risk losing both of her parents in one night. However, instead of agreeing to leave, her mother told her to shadowdive and flee far, far away, because she wasn't leaving while her husband was still alive. She ran into the house, and moments later, the roof collapsed. Neither of her parents emerged.
Devastated, Evelune dove into the Abyss and swam until she nearly drowned. She emerged from the Abyss, only to pass out in front of a young couple's doorstep. They had moved in from a different continent only a month ago. One of them heard Evelune collapse outside their door and took her inside, and had just finished setting up their own butter apple orchard in Aurumdale. This couple ended up becoming her adopted parents.
Darkness manipulation - an ability all moondancers have, but Evelune possess a weakened form due to her half-human heritage.
- Shadowdiving: an ability that allows her to "dive" into any shadow and enter the Abyss, separate a realm of existence below her current one. Only moondancers are capable of shadowdiving. However, because of her half-human heritage, Evelune is incapable of breathing in the Abyss and must surface to breathe.
- While full moondancers can create physical darkness, Evelune can only cast darkness that affects sight.
Both parents are deceased (moondancer mom and human dad)
