Many envies those who were lucky in life, started at the higher ground so to speak. Wealth, a good environment to be nurtured in, talented, healthy, and sizable social standing. But when the odds were stacked against you even then? What if the expectations were just too much along with the pressure and stress? That was what Pascal experienced.
He hailed from a family with a somewhat long history. The Claes family was one of the "old money” and one of the major players in politics in the city with a hold of several large businesses as well. Prestige and acting befitting the family name was amongst the basics he was taught, not play with the kids around his age. Pascal was armed by private tutors, just like his older siblings, Johannes and Agnes, with practical knowledge and wisdom, grooming him for a bright future.
The young Pascal was able to handle what was dished out to him. But even then, his grandfather, Fabian, always raised the bar higher and higher as the time passed by. He was unfazed by this, considering how the old man was the one that paved the way for the Claes to make it big in the political stage. If he was lacking, he made it up with sheer hard work to keep up with both expectations, and with his elder brother and sister. It was bearable with their mother organizing ways to keep them from being overwhelmed and their father wasn't dogmatic compared to his grandfather.
But even that was the case, there was a limit to how much pressure and stress a person can take. In Pascal's case, that threshold had been reached a long time ago; all the bottled up emotions and thoughts bled out little by little. The last straw that broke the camel's back was when he was berated by his grandfather for "poor performance" on his grades and in the evening party held by a partner company. If he played his cards right, the daughter of the CEO of another firm attending may have taken a liking to him, opening an opportunity for the Claes... or so said by his grandfather.
He didn't lash out and let it explode. Pascal had better control over himself. Instead, bit by bit, those around him were coming to have a harder time reading what's behind the affable smiles and polite gestures of the young Pascal. Perhaps, the only person who was aware of what's beyond the benign and congenial face he wore was his youngest sister, Francesca. The inferiority complex of being lesser than his elder siblings whom he was always compared with, the need to be away from the stressful life he had been living, of the soundless scream he was letting out, to be someone other than the ‘so-called’ prodigy of Claes. The perfect guy that can do anything and everything, helping people out and solving their problems without breaking a sweat, and popular to boot; the shining knight in armor, prince charming himself, straight out of a fairytale.
Just to be Pascal, nothing more and nothing less.
Maybe if she was born two years earlier, the damn old man would've loosened up much earlier, easing up the weight on Pascal's shoulders. He didn't hold it against his beloved youngest sister, she was enough to be mental and emotional support for him along with his pet owl Rufus.
Yet things changed when he got caught in a car accident at the age of sixteen, blinding him as a result. The accident itself was inconsequential. He didn’t bother himself with the legalities which were likely dealt harshly. It was what came next that struck him hard: he had his sight for so long that it took him several months to get accustomed to being sightless and another six months to be skilled in getting by without sight.
Francesca was always there to help him and support him through this tribulation, even though he had kept telling her to focus on herself and her studies. Soon, even Johannes and Agnes came to check on him bit by bit. Their parents, Wilhelm and Miria, would also drop by when they have free time.
Lastly, even his dogmatic grandfather will come to give him support in his own gruff way.
If there was one more thing that changed in his life, it was the direction he was heading and who had been the one that guided him towards being a musician. You see, he was slated to support his elder siblings at their ventures one way or another; such was the fate he had or enter an arranged marriage with another family— the details to be finalized once he’s sixteen in age. But, with his sudden blindness, things changed and his grandfather, after Pascal voiced out what he was supposed to do now, told him to go pursue a career in music instead.
Music was, in all of the things that were forced to him, the thing he enjoyed the most and what he can boast to have the talent the most in. And if his grandfather was willing to give him the blessing to embrace what was just a hobby to something else, Pascal was more than happy to take up the challenge that comes.
And in the years to come, he made a name for himself: Pascal Claes was no god-sent prodigy like other much more talented musicians he had met. However, he has the confidence to say he made a name for himself both as violinist and pianist. While his family had been supportive, in their own way, to his decision, they had been… distant sans Francesca, who was still the same and ever close to him. Not much to Johannes and Agnes who were mired with their duties along with their parents.
In a way, he understood why: he was given the freedom and unshackled by his grandfather, the man who had been pushing everyone to his perceived view of greatness. The very same man who had gone up and disappeared five years ago, months after his twentieth birthday, and handing his favorite cane to him. Pascal can still remember his words that day: “This one likes you better than I. Take better care of it, for it had chosen you,” lilted with an edge of amusement and delight, painting the old gentleman with a smile in his mindscape.
Fabian wasn’t telling a jest either as Pascal learned within the years. The cane, one of the many heirlooms passed down their family, was alive. He doesn’t know how nor can he explain the ‘why’. It was just what his instincts told him. And mysterious and strange the cane was, he cannot bear to throw it away or just store and forget forevermore: it was a gift to him by his grandfather and had used it as his white cane ever since.
Not to mention, it had been slowly and steadily calling to him to journey to a faraway place over the years. Pascal would’ve jumped on the chance, he’ll grant. If not for the fact he still had things to do: somehow assist his siblings through the connections he made through his tours and determine Francesca’s husband-to-be was a decent man and worthy of his adorable little sister. But, over the five years since he gained the cane, Pascal was safely able to accomplish everything and could set off this new unknown without problems.
Perhaps, he might even meet his grandfather there.

Aer Affinity
Environmental: Through breathing, inhaling and exhaling, feeling the wind caressing him, and with each and every note he plays/hums.
Wind Manipulation - the fundamentals for anyone with Aer Affinity. Pascal’s control over Aer enables him to bend air to his will within a distance of roughly five to ten feet. His talent for precision allows him finer ways to manipulate wind.
Sensory - Pascal uses his attunement to Aer to augment his flash-sonar to magical levels, enabling him to have a detailed idea of his surroundings even without sight. In fact, it might better eyesight since he can sense everything around him.
Glide - He can glide around from high distances without a glider, slowly going down. He can also use Glide as a means of swiftly getting around and levitating himself by a couple of inches above surfaces. He can currently support the weight of two adults (himself and someone else) without being encumbered.
Flight - An advanced version of Glide. Pascal still struggles with Flight as it's more complex than just Gliding in two dimensions, involving altitude control and three-dimensional movement.
Warding - Thanks to Bellany’s teachings, Pascal has learned how to etch basic warding and fine-tune who can get in and out of his wards.
Wind Saber - An melee offensive spell he learned with the assistance of Niamh. As the name implies, he controls the winds to a sharp blade. Pascal needs his cane as a conduit to use Wind Saber.
Gale Rifle - A range offensive spell Pascal made based on his experience wielding a hunting rifle. Unlike with Wind Saber, he still struggles to execute it consistently. Gale Rifle’s current range is 50 ft.
