They're very partial to warm tones paired with black, so most of their outfits have a black base with reds and oranges layered on top. They also are bad at choosing comfort over style, so most of their "casual" clothes are still fairly fancy.
Since her casual wear is fairly formal already, she has to go all out with formal wear, so whenever she has to look nice, she either looks like she's going to prom or the Met Gala and nothing in between. She also brings out more of the brighter warm tones and less of the black.

Vanessa had an odd childhood. They were born in Santa Monica, California to a siren mother and a magical-born father, both of whom were casually Satanists, which they didn't know until they were 17 and were kicked out of the house for not aligning with their beliefs. They lived on the streets until they managed to earn a scholarship to FSMA thanks to their fantastic grades and a little bit of manipulation magic to push it over the edge.
She met Shiloh in one of her art classes and immediately the two of them hit it off.
They met the rest of Shiloh's friends at a bonfire.
They don't talk to their parents any more and they really don't plan on ever reconnecting.
