Why is it that there are pictures of these people everywhere? Sev wondered, as he scrolled through the pictures he had seen. There are images on the walls in ancient Greece that look pretty similar. Ancient Egypt. And now, there are many photographs of these same five people. He shook his head. Either they're the descendants of those in the ancient times, and look freakishly similar, or… He didn't even want to consider the other possibility.
"Get a grip on yourself," he said out loud, drawing odd looks from the passers by. "There's no such people as immortals. Those were just stories."
And yet…
He happened to look through the window of a nearby restaurant, and froze. There were four people there that looked almost completely identical to those in the photos he had been examining, except in modern clothes.
What on earth?
"I would love to see the redwood forests in California again." Zara said, pointing at California. ”Its comforting being around living things that are almost as old as you. I also wouldn't mind visiting a few cemeteries as well. It would be nice to visit a few people."
Rosie nodded slightly, resting her chin on her hand. "Yeah… and they're so impressive… makes you feel small. Almost normal."
Lars nodded softly, his smirk faded a bit. ”Yeah… It really does.” he sighed taking before taking a slow drink. As he looked up, he noticed some kid staring at them through the window. Wonder what his problem is…
Before he knew what he was doing, Sev was walking into the restaurant. He sat at a table near the people who looked so familiar to him, and set his backpack, where his laptop was, down. He glanced at the menu. It wasn't his favorite food, but it would do. The real reason why he was here was the people only a few feet away from him…
Zara let out a sigh. "Alright then. We have the basic lay out of our trip. When do we want to start?" She asked as she grabbed the map and started to fold it back up. "How much time should we have to prepare for this?"
Lars shrugged a little and looked back at the others. ”Depending on how long this road trip lasts… I can probably have my stuff and the car ready to go in… three-four days?” he guessed. ”Wait till you see that old bus. I fixed her up and running like new.” he chuckled proudly.
"Let's leave at sunrise in five days, we'll all be ready by then I think, and I can even make sure Lars isn't going to kill us with that bus of his. That thing is old enough to pass as a collectable," Eudora replied, grinning, "It probably needs a new engine…and tires…and everything else." She glanced around at the others, glancing at a male who had taken up a table near them. He seemed curious, or confused, but she just shot him a smile and turned back to the others, reaching across the table and poking Lars, "I think it's your turn to call the waitress over, I'm starving."
Rosie looked up. "Yeah… oh! Food! That's why we're here! Right!" She said, smiling as she picked at her nail polish.
”Uhh… Excuse you, Dora. The bus is a collectible. They don't make them anymore.” Lars laughed a little. ”But as I just said, I fixed it up… and made some modern changes too. Great gas mileage, new paint job, an all-new sound system, and a few hidden compartments.” he bragged for a minute before trying to call over the waitress again.
Zara laughed. "It's probably time you should get rid of that thing. It's ancient! It might end up falling apart on the road." She teased Lars, kicking his shoe as he tried to wave down a waitress.
Eudora scowled at Lars, kicking his foot under the table as well, though her face showed she was used to the nickname, "You know not to call me that, Larsy." A tiny amused smile flickered by moments later though and she leaned back on the booth, "I'm nervous to see this paint job. Who knows what you did to that poor bus."
He frowned slightly at the accusations, not minding the two kicks since they’d all been through worse. ”Ok, let's watch it with the ”A” word and the bus won't break down. I’ve taken exceptionally good care of it. Don't you two trust me? After all these years that we’ve known each other? I’m hurt.” Lars sighed dramatically. ”Rosie, you trust me at least, right?” he asked, his eyes sparkling a little at this game.
Rosie bit back a smile, acting like she was thinking. "Well, there was that time you told Dee Dee I had smack… and when you told Nancy I hit on Sid… and the time you told me there was a way into a sold out show when there wasn't… Can I trust you?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.
”Oh, ouch… Stick a knife in my back next time.” Lars rolled his eyes dramatically, half-tempted to just fall out of the booth on to his back. ”Ok, fine… but next time any of you Bonnie’s need a getaway driver, this Clyde is going to remember this moment.” he smirked as he remembered those two crooks.
"We all know you are nothing compared to Clyde. Clyde was a gentleman, you on the otherhand, are a cockroach. You're nuisance and you won't die." Zara teased Lars.
"I'll act as the Clyde, Lars," Eudora replied, winking at Lars and grinning, "If it ever comes to that. Until then, I suppose I trust you and your bus. And we've only known each other for so many years because we're stuck together, as per the universe's wishes." It was customary to pick on someone of the group, but she was sure to remind them in some way that it was all just light fun, or at least that none of them were terribly serious.
”Present company included.” Lars pointed out to Zara since they were all unkillable. He sighed a little and smiled at Eudora. ”Thank you for the vote of confidence, darling. And I'm not complaining about being stuck with you guys. Actually, I consider myself the luckiest man alive so… Thank you, Universe!” he called out to the ceiling with his hands cupped around his mouth.
Zara playfully smacked Lars from across the table. "We are not the only people in here, Lars!" She said, gesureing at the man who sat down not too far from them. "So have some manners and be quiet!"
Rosie giggled. "Jesus Christ, Lars…" She mumbled, trying to sneak a peek at who was at the other table. "Quiet down for once!"
Lars laughed with Rosie and dropped his arm back around her shoulders. ”Yeah, I saw that guy walk in. He was staring at us from the street.” he said softly through a tighter than normal smile, but only the ones at his table would notice that. Going quickly back to his relaxed and carefree manner he looked at the cafe counter. ”Ok, at this point, I think I’m just gonna go over to the register and place our order. You ladies know what you want?”
Eudora shot a quick glance at the male again, brightly smiling before turning and poking Lars from across the table, "Chocolate chip pancakes please, if they still serve those, and coffee for me." Before she let him leave though, she added quietly to the group, "I don't like the look of him. Lets eat quick and then go to the park or something."
(Just gonna wait for @Shadow_Knight or @CWPoofToxicRush to reply before I do anything…)
Rosie nodded. "Yeah, maybe we should… besides, the park is always fun."
“Ok. I’ll see if we can get everything to go.” Lars nodded as he stood up. “What did you and Zara say you wanted again, Rosie?” He asked, fairly sure they hadn’t actually told him yet.
"Oh! Can I just get some fries? I'm not too hungry." She said, smiling softly.
"Ooh! Chocolate chip pancakes sound great!" Zara piped up when she heard Eudora's order. "I'll have that too!"
Eudora smiled at Zara, nudging her under the table with her knee, "What are you talking about, they sound more than great, they sound amazing." She glanced up once more at Lars as well, tapping the table, "Can you see if they can bring the bill here? I'm paying for everyone's food."
”Alright. Two orders of chocolate chip pancakes and two fries to share.” Lars chuckled and headed over to the counter, passing the only other customer in the cafe. He didn't slow his pace but he carefully watched the male as he went to place their order.
"You don't have to pay for the entire thing, Eudora." Zara said with a frown. "We can split it. I'll pay for half."
