Alice kept moving, unsteadily but relentlessly.
Leo jogged up and went to stand ahead of her.
Ana followed behind Eli, who was gliding along beside Alice.
Alice stopped crawling and sat up. "What?" she asked weakly.
Eli crossed his arms and went to lean against the wall, but nearly fell through. He regained his balance after a few seconds.
"What?" she repeated. Leo knelt down.
"Are we just supposed to let you leave?"
She shrugged and sat cross-legged.
Ana walked up behind Leo. "You're a murderous psycho, we aren't letting you out of our sight."
She whimpered quietly but didn't look up. "What do you want?"
"Right now, answers." Ana responded.
Her head lolled back. "Answers to what?"
She gestured to the air around them. "All of this. The lab, the room, you."
"Why you're here. And why you keep deciding to murder us all," Lia said flatly.
Alice winced as Lia's ghost spoke up, and curled up tighter. "One question at a time!" She paused. "What's your first question?"
"Answer Lia's question first."
"I'm here because I wanted to kill my Ringmaster," Alice admitted.
"But why kill me and Eli in the process? We had such promising lives ahead of us, and now they're wasted."
Alice's eyes shone, though it was impossible to tell why. "Some sort of levelling out."
Eli shook his head. "Levelling out? You'll need a better reason than that."
"It was like I was taking a life for a life. In my mind, you were part of the Circus."
"But you already murdered those police officers. Were they not enough for you?" Jace asked, crossing his arms.
"Why me and Lia then?"
"The police officers weren't part of the Circus. And you and Lia was because you're both one of a pair."
"That's…extremely specific." Eli shook his head, chuckling dryly.
Alice looked up at him blankly.
"Why not me though? Why kill my sister?" Jace asked.
"One boy, one girl," Alice sighed.
"Why'd you pick me first then?" Elliot asked impatiently.
"It didn't make a difference who came first."
