“Why would someone want to do that?” Aniña asked, confused. The story had just gotten interesting too and now she wouldn’t know how it was going to end.

Sequoia shrugged, flipping through the book in distress. She wanted to know what happened to Kanz and if he fought the dragon and if the girl got rescued. And now she probably never would. Whoever had ripped out the page was a real asshole. "No idea, but it was really shitty of them. Now we'll never know what happened."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña sighed, moving so her head was resting in Sequoia’s lap, “It was just getting interesting too…” She grumbled. Why would someone rip out the pages of a children’s story of all things? Surely there was better things to do with one’s time.

"Yeah!" Sequoia sighed, messing around with Aniña's hair. What were they supposed to do now? The story was ver and all she felt like doing was finishing it. She could already tell it was going to drive her crazy for the rest of the week. "Whatever. What do you wanna do now?"

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña shrugged and closed her eyes, “I don’t know. I’m kinda brain dead at the moment,” She muttered. And tired but that didn’t matter, “Do you have any ideas?”

Deleted user

"Not really. We read stories, explored spooky shit, and OH! We need to replace your bandages!" Sequoia tugged Aniña over and checked the bandages, grimacing slightly when she saw the blood beginning to leak through. They hadn't replaced them all day.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña winced slightly at the sudden movement, “We should go change them, then.” She said, looking down at the dark red that was starting to show. She had been ignoring the pain there all day but know that Sequoia had drawn attention to it she noticed.

"Definitely. Is your arm hurting you again? Should I get some painkillers?" Sequoia helped Aniña to her feet and made a mental note to make a servant go to town and get a basket full of painkilling herbs. And some bandages. The first aid kit was nice, but they were pushing the limits of its supplies.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña shook her head, “I’ll be fine. Don’t worry about it.” She gave Sequoia a small smile to mask the pain, as they made their way upstairs to where the first aid kit was. Maybe while they were up there they could take a nap, Aniña felt like she hadn’t slept at all.

As soon as they were in the room, Sequoia wrote a small shopping list and sent a servant out to buy ore supplies. Then she grabbed the last of the bandages and headed over to Aniña. The old bandages were soaked with blood when she unwrapped them but the new ones didn't seem to be absorbing much. It looked like the wound had begun healing a bit, so that was good. "Are you sure you don't want any painkillers? It's no trouble."

@ElderGod-Carrots

“I’m sure. Don’t worry.” Aniña looked down at new bandages, glad that they weren’t blood stained anymore, “Thanks for all the help again…” She felt like she hadn’t thanked her wife enough for everything that she’d done for her.

Deleted user

"Of course! I'm your wife, I can't just let you suffer." Sequoia patted Aniña on the back before she disposed of the gross old bandages. It was good to see Aniña healing. Sequoia thanked every saint she could name that things were healing up and everything would be fine by the time they went to Aniña's kingdom.

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña nodded and bit her lip, looking down at her lap, "Sequoia… do you- do you think it's still a good idea to go back to my kingdom once these weeks are up? I-I don't want you hurt so maybe there isn't the best place for you…"

Deleted user

"We have to go to your kingdom. I've been… cut from mine." Sequoia wished they could stay in her kingdom but she wasn't really a part of that kingdom anymore. The marriage had signed her over to Aniña, so with Aniña she had to stay. Part of that meant returning to her wife's kingdom instead of her own.

@ElderGod-Carrots

"What? I didn't… Why didn't you say something about it?" Aniña had had no clue that that was what was going to happen. If she had then maybe she would have fought to either stop the marriage or make sure that they stayed in Sequoia's kingdom.

Deleted user

"It was in the documents! You didn't read them before you signed?" It had very clearly started that Seequoia was to become her wife's property. It was part of the reason she so loathed the idea of marriage.

@ElderGod-Carrots

"I just skim read the thing, I didn't think you were to become my property. That's bullshit and shouldn't be allowed. You should be free to do what you want, everyone should." It was wrong, utterly wrong and crap and terrible. Everyone should be able to have freedom.

Deleted user

Aniña seemed to have moved on to things that were probably more important, but Sequoia was stuck on the fact that she hadn't read the documents. Sequoia always read the documents, no matter the event. The information they gave you could be invaluable. And Aniña just disregarded it? It was hard for Sequoia to fathom. "That's just the way things are in my country. I'm yours, and yours alone. We have to deal with that."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña rubbed at her face and sighed, "Is there anyway to give you back your freedom? I… I feel bad that you no longer have any…" Freedom was important to anyone and everyone. Even in marriage you should be allowed to have it, no matter the circumstances.

Deleted user

"Not without nullifying our marriage." Sequoia gave up her freedom to her wife, that was what the marriage was. They were joined as a unit, and in that unit, one person had power. It just so happened that that person wasn't Sequoia. "And don't feel bad, Habibi. With you, I have plenty of freedom. I know you wouldn't hurt me."

@ElderGod-Carrots

"I know I just… can't help feeling that way…" Aniña took Sequoia's hand in her own. She still didn't like the idea of having the most power in the marriage, not now anyway but… it was what was going to happen and they had to put up with that.

Deleted user

Sequoia squeezed her hand comfortingly, offering a half confused smile. She understood why Aniña might be a bit angry about everything, but this was the way things were. There had never been a different type of marriage for her because she was never going to get a marriage of love. S she was more of an object than a person in the eyes of the documents. "I know. And that's fine- kind of wonderful actually- but… it doesn't change anything."

@ElderGod-Carrots

"I wish it did. I wish there was something I could do to change those stupid documents, to give you your freedom…" After everything that had had happened between her and Sequoia, she wanted her to be happy and free to do what she wanted without thinking she was Aniña's property. It wasn't fair in the slightest.

(Getting kind of tired so I'm heading to bed. Goodnight.)

"Habibi, all you need to do to give me freedom is to allow me to do as I wish. Just because it's written on paper doesn't make it true in your heart." Sequoia laid her hand down over Aniña's hear to accentuate her point. She could feel the steady 'thump, thump, thump' of it beating under her fingers. "If I am free here, I am free everywhere else."

@ElderGod-Carrots

(Night)

Aniña looked down at her wife's hand and placed her hand over Sequoia's, "I know… It's just that freedom is a big thing in my kingdom and… and I just don't like that the documents are signed and whatever…"

Deleted user

"Yeah." It sucked and Sequoia knew that it sucked. That didn't change the fact that they were stuck with no way to undo it without reversing their marriage. "Maybe one day you can remarry me in the way of your kingdom. I will have freedom in reality and on paper."

@ElderGod-Carrots

Aniña nodded slowly, “Yeah, Maybe.” She said quietly with a small sigh. It was so unfair but Sequoia was right as always. Maybe one day they could re-marry and Sequoia can properly have her freedom.

Sequoia pressed a happy kiss to Aniña's cheek. They didn't need to dwell on these things. They just needed to move forward in their lives and plan for what they wanted to do. "So, we have two weeks until I go home with you. What should I expect?"

@ElderGod-Carrots

“Expect when you get back to my kingdom?” Aniña shrugged, “Good food, festivals every other day or so, lots of wilderness and beautiful mountains.”

Deleted user

"Oh boy! I love parties!" From all she'd read- which admittedly wasn't much- Sequoia knew that Aniña's culture was wild and free. They threw parties, got drunk, and valued strength. That she could deal with happily. However, she didn't care much about the kingdom. "But… what is your family like?" She lowered her voice. "Your father?"
