(I read that your guinea pig got worse. I’m so sorry. If you want to talk about it, I’m always here.)

“Okay… I’m getting directions to La Papillon…” Lilah murmured as she pulled them up on her phone. “It says go right.”

(Oh, thanks Autumn. I’ll be staying up with him for as long as I can.)

Cameron blinked. “Oh. Right.”

(Any time. I know how it feels losing a pet.)

Lilah glanced at him and chuckled. “You were probably just turned around, dear. Don’t worry, I’m sure we’ll get there just fine.”

Cameron grinned and tailed her, humming happily. “I am right behind you.”

Cameron was just gazing up and around, almost tripping every so often. He smiled at passing children and waved at adults.

Deleted user

Cameron looked down at her phone too, grinning. “Really? That fast?”

Deleted user

Cameron blinked up at the hotel and over his shoulder.
“Maybe not…”

Deleted user

Cameron nodded, grinning a loopy grin. He trotted after her, careful not to overstep her.

Cameron hummed agreement. “Makes sense. What are we gonna do if they don’t?”

“Um… Translating app?” Lilah suggested with a shrug.

The person in front of them stepped away, and the lady at the front desk greeted them warmly in French.

(Would you mind playing her? Or should I? I was going to have her speak English.)

Deleted user

(Could you, please? And English sounds good.)

Cameron smiled and greeted her back. The French greeting was all he really knew.

(Yeah, no problem.)

The receptionist must have noticed Lilah’s confused look because she chuckled under her breath before speaking with a think accent, “You are Americans, no? I speak English, don’t worry.”

“Oh, great! Thank you,” Lilah breathed in relief. She gave the woman a polite smile. “We are the Metzlers. We’re here to check in?”

“May I see an ID?” the receptionist asked, returning Lilah’s smile.

Lilah turned to Cameron. “We checked in under your name, right?”

Deleted user

(Thanks)

Cameron put on one of his classic “I totally forgot” faces and smiled a bit. He tugged out his wallet and pulled out his ID, handing it to the lady at the desk with a weak laugh.

(Any time.)

“Thank you,” the receptionist — Adèle, her name tag read — said as she took it and ran it through the system. “All right. You are checked in, now. I just have to go get you your keys.”

Deleted user

Cameron took his ID back and slipped it securely into his wallet. He shut it, and it made a clicking sound.
“Okay, sounds good.”

Adèle nodded and made her way back into the office. After a few moments, she came back with two keycards and slid them across the table to the couple.

“There you are. Have a wonderful stay!” she said warmly, grinning at them.

“Thank you,” Lilah said as she took the cards and handed Cameron one.
