“Honestly, I kinda want to see that.” Charlie admitted with a wide grin. “I doubt there is many alive who can say they’ve seen your wrath and survived.”
“Honestly, I kinda want to see that.” Charlie admitted with a wide grin. “I doubt there is many alive who can say they’ve seen your wrath and survived.”
"Many people have seen my wraith, though not through me, as my followers channel my wraith in times of desperation. But none have ever seen it through me and lived to tell. And certainly none have faced my wraith and lived."
“That makes sense. I imagine that your followers even only channel a fraction of your wrath because they’re mortal, and even if they're strong, all your wrath might be too much for them to handle.” Charlie theorized. “But as I've said, I don't practice. I never chose a patron and you're the first deity I’ve ever interacted with.”
Irae nodded. "There was one barbarian, once, that channeled almost all of my wraith. I liked him. Offered him immortality. Don't remember if he took it or not. If he did, I haven't seen him in forever."
“I’m not surprised that a barbarian would be the most likely to channel more than your average person.” Charlie shrugged, considering how strong they were… not to mention their rage ability adding to it. “If he did take your offer, then I hope you get to see him again sometime.”
Irae nodded, but shrugged. "Honestly I don't remember what he looked like. Even if he did, I might not recognize him. He'd probably recognize me? I don't know."
“Oh, it was that long ago.” Charlie murmured in realization. “Well, I bet if he’d definitely recognize you. You're pretty unforgettable.”
Irae nodded. "Yeah. At least a thousand years ago. If he didn't accept my offer, he'd be dead by now, regardless of his species. I think he was a troll?" She noted, thinking.
Charlie hummed softly, before lifting her cup and smirking. “Well, regardless of whether he’s still around or if his soul is on a different plane, may the strongest of your followers find me a good enough companion for his patron.” she said sincerely.
Irae nodded. "Even if they don't, I do, and that should be good enough for them." She said firmly.
(I am so tired- in Beetlejuice jr right now and rehearsals are so long-)
(Never heard of Beetlejuice Jr. before… best of luck with rehearsals)
“You are too kind, my lady.” Charlie nodded graciously, a genuine glint in her eyes despite the smirk still on her face.
Irae smiled lightly again. "Anyone who shows kindness to a god known for being wraithful and murderous for the slightest misstep when she was so out of it you could have left her anywhere is good in my book." She said, shrugging. "If anyone disagrees- well- then they can face me."
“I’d be more afraid of you and Feren’s wrath if I left you behind.” Charlie pointed out, though she was also thinking of the other members of the pantheon who had made her responsible for Irae. “Besides, because you were so out of it is another reason why I couldn't leave you alone. If and when I part with anyone, I prefer to know that they'll be alright without me.” she smiled… though there was a hint of distance in her eyes for a moment after she spoke.
Irae nodded. "I'm assuming there's a story to that? I won't push, but … I will listen if you need me to." She said, softly. She was trying to convey the more expensive range of emotions mortals had.
Charlie’s eyes widened before she cleared her throat and adjusted her hood to try to hide her blush. “Yes, well… there is a story there but I’d rather not talk about it.” she admitted, her eyes focusing on anything but Irae. “It's just something I’m trying to leave behind.”
Irae nodded. "Alright. I won't push." She said, stretching backwards. "Are you almost done eating?"
“Hmm? Oh, yeah. I’m finished.” Charlie nodded still trying to regain her composure. “Did you want to explore the town a bit or did you want to rest?”
Irae shrugged. "I'm good with either, but probably rest first? The healer suggested I rest." She said, shrugging.
"Sure." Charlie agreed, standing. "Let me just pay for our meal at the bar and we can go up to our room…" she trailed off when she remembered that they had to share a single room. "I'll be right back."
Irae nodded, sitting and watching as Charlie went to pay. She didn't care about sharing a room, though she could tell Charlie was a bit uncomfortable with the idea. Irae wasn't entirely sure why, but her best guess was that it was something in Iibidine's domain.
Charlie shook her head as she paid for the food and her drink, trying to clear it from the awkwardness of her past sneaking its way back into her thoughts and the fact that she would be sharing a room with a literal goddess. The latter wasn't that much of a problem since Irae… was technically mortal right now, if she’d read the note correctly, but certainly something she’d never thought would happen.
The former, however, was entirely unwelcome. She didn't want to think about all that. Who cares about them or what they think or expect? She was free! If they wanted her… she wouldn't go back without the fight of her life.
She sighed, unclenching her fists, and turned back to Irae with a faint smile.
Irae nodded, standing gently. "Should we go then?" She asked, carefully. She could see that Charlie was upset, and didn't really want to make it worse.
Charlie nodded. “Yeah. Let's go. Our room is just upstairs.” she said, finally managing to sound calm again.
Irae nodded, following Charlie up the stairs, staying quiet and observant of their surroundings, still watching for any danger. Under her cloak, her tail curled to the side, still not noticable, though the movement might have been.
Charlie walked up to the door, her shoulders still a bit tense, and double-checked that the key matched before entering.
The room wasn't anything fancy but it was still nice and spacious enough for the two of them.
“You go ahead and get comfortable. I’ll set up my bedroll.” Charlie smiled a little.
Irae looked at her. "It's a decently sized bed, you're welcome to sleep on it as well. I really don't mind. Don't sleep on the floor for my account." She said, partially insistent.
“You sure?” she asked as she slid her pack off. “It's not a problem for me to sleep on the floor. I don't want you to be uncomfortable while you’re trying to rest and recover.” Charlie pointed out.
Irae shrugged. "I'm certain. I really don't mind, and would prefer we both be comfortable." She said, looking at the bed. "It's big enough for both of us."
Charlie nodded, admitting that the bed was big enough to share and this wouldn't be the first time she’d been in this kind of situation with someone she traveled with. But the fact that this time would be with Irae, a goddess, was what had her so…
“If you're absolutely certain, then I guess it's ok.”
Irae nodded. "I am. I don't know why you're being so hesitant- is it a cultural thing?" She asked, genuinely curious.
