The original discussion I started got a little cluttered and it was brought to my attention that maybe I wasn't as clear as I could've been, so I decided to start again and give a little more background!

This roleplay takes place in the My Hero Academia universe. At this point in the plot, the League of Villians has been defeated and another wannabe group has sprung up out of nowhere. This new group is known as 'The Syndicate', and at the current rate, doesn't appear to pose much of a threat. Regardless, the Commission has decided to assemble a team of heroes to investigate and bring down The Syndicate before they become the next League.

These heroes are our characters.

RULES:

  • andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer)'s rules apply.
  • LGBT+ Friendly!
  • Cussing is fine unless otherwise stated.
  • References to sex are fine, but nothing explicit. If you want to write it, please do so elsewhere.
  • Unless I've roleplayed with you before, please include a writing sample. This can be any creative piece of writing, including a link to another roleplay you've participated in!
  • There's no word limit for responses, but I do expect you to be able to keep a good flow and be conscientious of others' replies.
  • I retain the right to add more rules or change them as I see fit. If at any point you feel like I'm being unreasonable, please let me know and we can work something out.

Be as creative as you'd like with your hero! They can be a pro, underground, or run-of-the-mill hero, and their quirk can be literally anything as long as it's not too overpowered. If you need help with quirk ideas, there are plenty of generators and lists out there to use!

Roleplayer Questions
Preferred Name/Nickname: Just 'Wish'.
Do you have any triggers fellow roleplayers should know about? If so, what are they?: None that apply here.
When are your most active periods?: During the weekdays anywhere from 7AM-10PM EST. Expect random spurts.

Character Template
Name: Takao Nakano
Hero Name: Inkmeister
Aliases/Preferred Name/Nicknames: Introduces himself as ‘Nakano’. Nickname is ‘Taka’.
Age: Twenty-three
Gender & Pronouns: Male, he/him
Sexuality: Bisexual
Quirk: Ink Manipulation; Takao’s body naturally produces an ink-like substance beneath the skin. His quirk allows him to manipulate said ink both internally and externally, shaping and solidifying it at will. He can also transfer ink onto another person’s skin for various purposes, in extreme cases, even to immobilize a target. The latter of which requires the use of a lot of ink and takes about a minute to accomplish, however. Aside from his own naturally-produced ink, Takao can influence foreign inks from markers or pens with little difficulty. This has few uses in the line of heroism. Because of his quirk, he has perpetually dry skin that’s susceptible to tearing and flaking. Side effects of overusing his quirk include symptoms of ink poisoning, such as nausea, headaches, inflammation, and swelling of the joints. Pushing himself too far will inevitably lead to collapsing. His natural weakness is water, as it washes his ink away.
Backstory: Like most of the population, Takao dreamed of becoming a hero as a child. These dreams faded somewhat as he found himself preparing for high school, instead taking interest in using his quirk for a more mundane job, like one at his uncle’s tattoo parlor. His interest in being a hero didn’t return until his mother was caught in the crossfire of a villain attack. She survived, fortunately, but the close call was enough for Takao to realize he could prevent similar near misses from happening to other families in the future. He applied to Shiketsu High School and graduated near the top of his class, shortly after becoming a licensed hero and eventually moving up the ranks until he was a full-fledged ‘pro’.
Appearance: About 5’11” with a tan complexion; half Japanese and half American with curly, bright yellow hair that’s a darker brown at the roots. His eyes are also dark brown. His entire body is covered in a myriad of tattoos that are constantly shifting and changing, although he can rid these at will. Picrew.
Personality: Takao can seem reserved or standoffish at first to total strangers, but he's actually the type to stare off into the distance with a brooding expression while thinking about what he's going to have for dinner. He's actually a total goofball once people get to know him, and oftentimes even before that. He's sincere and passionate about the little things, with very few-long term ambitions to speak of.
Support Items: Hidden, lightweight armor plates beneath his costume, which includes a loose, long sleeve black mesh undershirt and a black, low-hanging tank top. He also wears black leggings with knee braces and beige cargo pants over those, along with bright yellow sneakers covered in marker doodles. Support items modified specifically for him include black gloves designed to put pressure on specific points to help with quirk-related nausea. The material of his undershirt and leggings is a special fabric meant to wick away moisture and avoid aggravating his sensitive skin.
Other: None at the moment; subject to change.

(Of course! And don't worry—knowing the lore isn't necessary. I intend to avoid spoilers as I haven't finished the show, either! Do you have a link to another rp for a writing sample, perchance?)

(Perfect! You're welcome to start on your character!)

When are your most active periods?: About 4:30 PM - 8 PM on weekdays, and about 11 AM - 10 PM on weekends.

Character Template
Name: Aika Miyazaki
Hero Name: Void
Aliases/Preferred Name/Nicknames: None
Age: 19
Gender & Pronouns: Female She/Her
Sexuality:
Quirk: Portal Making; Aika is able to create portals to get from one area to another, and can transport others through them as well. Using portals uses energy depending on how long she has to hold the portal open, and how many portals she opens at once. For example, transporting large groups of people would take a lot of energy, while only transporting herself takes much less effort.
Backstory: Aika had never really thought about being a hero or a villain. But one day, a group of villains attacked her neighborhood, and she used her quirk to fight back against the villains and to help people get away. She realized that she could do so much good as a hero, so Aika started training. She practiced using her quirk day after day, as well as training her body to be stronger and faster. Aika worked as hard as she could to become a hero, and now that she is one, she'll do her best to protect as many people as she can.
Appearance: Aika is 5'8 in height with light tan skin and violet eyes. She has long black hair that's been dyed dark blue at the bottom, and is usually in a ponytail.
Personality: Aika is loyal, caring, and adventurous. She loves seeing new things and going on daring rescue missions. Some could call her crazy with all the risks she takes, but Aika does enjoy peace and quiet from time to time.
Support Items: Aika's costume includes stainless steel bracers on her arms and armored plates on the outside for protection.
Other: None at the moment; subject to change

I love her! Her quirk will be super useful in their team, too! ^^
Not sure if you meant to leave the sexuality field unanswered, but just in case you didn't, this is to let you know! No need to fix it if you're undecided.

(No worries! I'm super eager to begin, so are you alright with starting now and letting others join later on if they're interested?)

(Also I moved this to 'Fandom World' since it fits better.)

The smell of permanent marker fumes permeated the air as Inkmeister doodled on his canvas sneakers. He seemed to be drawing a poor-quality cookie at that moment, his tranquil expression slipping into a slight frown as it began to take on the shape of an alien. Eh, that works, too, he mused, changing the would-be cookie outline to a stereotypical balloon head associated with the little space creature stereotype.

The sound of a door opening caught his attention and he turned to greet the first of his supposed teammates, forgetting his precarious position in the process. His feet, previously propped up on the desk, slipped off as his rolling chair scooted back an alarming few feet, landing him flat on his back with a startled grunt.

The red marker rolled out of his hand over to the tip of the newcomer’s shoes as Takao squinted up at the presence. “Inkmeister… Pleased to make your acquaintance,” he groaned, clearly dazed, as he extended a hand to shake from his new position on the floor.

@PastelTart

Aika's eyes widened and she took the man's hand, helping him to his feet. "I'm Void. Pleasure to meet you too." She glanced at the paper on the desk, then looked back at Inkmeister. "Are you alright? That looked pretty painful."

Deleted user

Inkmeister barked out a laugh at her concern, meeting the other hero's eyes as she helped him up. "Thanks for that, but I'm alright. Wouldn't be much of a hero if a fall like that did me in, would I?"

He brushed off imaginary dust from his clothes and straightened his posture as he actually studied the hero in front of him. "'Void', huh? I think I've seen you on the news a couple of times, but I'll be honest, I don't know much about you," he commented, one hand tapping his chin thoughtfully while the other reached towards the nearly forgotten marker on the floor. Instead of crouching to retrieve it, he activated his quirk, a small mass of pink and orange ink swelling beneath the mesh of his undershirt before extending out like one of those cheap sticky hand toys.

It wasn't showing off, it was—okay, yeah, he was definitely showing off, tossing the pen up and catching it with a dramatic flair as the ink receded back into his skin. "Either way, I look forward to working with you," he added rather formally with a nod of acknowledgment.

(It does, thanks a bunch Cloudy! And of course, @ZephirFox8812! If you could also link a writing sample, that'd be awesome, but like I said with Cloudy, you can join either way!)

@PastelTart

"Same here." Void replied, "That's a pretty impressive quirk. I can see why you call yourself 'Inkmeister.'" She looked around the room and walked away to inspect the items on one of the shelves. "Any idea who else we'll be working with?"

Deleted user

Takao glowed at the praise, the marker in hand lowering as his eyes lingered on Void's movements. "What can I say? I can one thing and do it well. Oh, and you're welcome to call me 'Nakano' off-duty, if you want," he responded, deciding to reclaim his chair as the other hero took interest in the various objects around the room. He pulled his feet in, soles pressed to each other, as he fiddled with the marker and watched her curiously.

"Nope, no clue," he answered, popping the 'p' in 'nope'. "All I know is there's supposed to be four of us. Although, logically, one of them is bound to have some sort of long-range capabilities… Unless that's you?" The ploy at learning more about Void's quirk wasn't subtle, but he hoped she wouldn't take offense. Some heroes tended to be more secretive about their identities and abilities, but not Takao.

@PastelTart

Aika turned and looked at him. "You wanna see my quirk, huh?" She said, smiling. "Alright then." She placed a portal next to the desk, and one on the opposite side of the room. She waved at Nakano and stepped into the further portal, emerging from the one by the desk. "You can call me Miyazaki, by the way." Aika added, grinning.

Deleted user

Takao blinked, stunned into silence for precisely three seconds before breaking out into a huge grin. "That was so cool! I mean, I figured it'd be something along those lines with a name like 'Void', but damn, that must be super useful in dealing with villains," he enthused, leaning back in his chair, which wobbled dangerously, and gesturing towards where the point of entry had been.

"Does that mean you could just, like, transport villains directly to the police, or is there distance limit?" he wondered aloud.

@PastelTart

"Well, sort of." Aika replied, closing the portals. "It kind of depends." She leaned against the wall and crossed her arms. "If it's just one or two villains, then I'm good. Now, if you want me to transport a whole neighborhood full of people, that's going to take a lot of energy." She explained, "Also, I can only place portals on a surface I can see."

@Cloudy_is_trying_her_best

(Awesome!! Here's my character!!)

Name: Katsurou Kato
Hero Name: Finger Guns
Aliases/Preferred Name/Nicknames: Goes by "Kato", nicknames include "Flashy Fingers" and "Katsu"
Age: 26
Gender & Pronouns: Cis male; he/him
Sexuality: Straight
Quirk: Bullet Fingers; Katsurou has the ability to shoot his fingers off of his hands at high speeds. Between the abnormally strong bones in his hands and his bullet-like fingertips, it's rare for a finger to break after being shot off. He can reattach fingers, but it's not a painless process. Oh, and he still bleeds while the finger is detached. If a finger is broken, it will take the same amount of time to heal as anyone else's.
Backstory: Katsurou has always been a bit of a show-off. It wasn't that he thought he was better than anyone else or anything, he just liked to improve his skills and show others what he could do. He'd been given a gift, why not use it? Between his amiable nature and flashy abilities, Katsurou was fairly popular among his peers in his childhood and teen years. One of his best friends was a quirkless girl named Emi Kishimoto, affectionately nicknamed Kishi. Kishi had an infatuation with heroes, and had always wanted Katsurou to become one someday. The two of them would playfully argue about it, with Katsurou pointing out that his quirk wasn't nearly powerful enough to even step to some of the pro heroes out there, and Kishi insisting that it didn't matter, he could still do tons to help make the world a better place–"so much more" than she could. When the two of them were in junior high–or the Japanese equivalent, can't say I'm super familiar with how school works over there–Kishi was killed by a villain during an attack on a local mall. Katsurou decided that he would train to become a hero, both to honor Kishi's wish and to do his best to make sure that other kids wouldn't have to lose their best friends. He was able to make it into and graduate from UA High, falling in love with both the school's atmosphere and a beautiful young woman from the Investigative Studies department named Shinju Itou. Shortly after graduating, the two of them got married and began their careers.
Appearance: Katsurou has dark, fluffy hair and a tanned complexion. His eyes are a steely grey color, and he has short stubble on his face. If you squint really hard, you can see old scars from a training accident when he was in high school. Katsurou stands at about 5'10 and has a fairly muscular build–his line of work does help to keep him rather fit, after all. Perhaps the most interesting part of Katsurou's appearance is the absence of his left thumb–there are several theories about when he lost it, and he's certainly never going to tell.

Personality: One of the first things that most people notice about Katsurou is that he is a very friendly man. He's outgoing, optimistic, and keeps a can-do attitude most of the time. Sometimes, however, his optimism can border on naivete, and his can-do attitude can turn into recklessness. For these reasons, Katsurou tends to work better on a team–he usually keeps a level head easier if he's not the only one at risk. Outside of work, Katsurou's hobbies include cooking, exercising, and playing both board and video games with Shinju. He is a very affectionate husband and has a habit of not letting go of her hand when they're together, which has led to some interesting occurrences.
Support Items: Katsurou's gloves have a special padded flap to at least attempt to slow his bleeding. His belt has sugar cubes in the pouches to help him keep his blood sugar levels up, and at least one of them usually has a juice box or pouch in it.
Other: Shinju has just recently become pregnant. Though they don't know it yet, they'll be having twins. Katsurou would like to teach at UA someday, as a math teacher.

(I'm gonna wait for the go-ahead to post anything else haha)

"I see, I see," he hummed, tapping the marker thoughtfully against the side of his shoe. "My quirk relies more on physical health than energy, although overusing it can cause some problems. Small things here and there don't impact me much, though," he explained, indigo-colored ink flooding to his palm. The ink collected into a circular shape and he flicked his wrist, the shape popping out of his palm as a solid sphere. He tilted his hand and let it roll across the table, and with a tilt of his head, the shape stopped in its tracks. It morphed into a tiny, dragon-like figure that stiffly walked a few spaces before returning to a small pool of ink that crawled back across the table and into his waiting palm, leaving no trace of it ever being there.

Takao smiled proudly, clenching his fingers into a fist as the ink swirled around his wrist and returned to a spot on his forearm as the same tiny dragon from before. There it stayed, the image of a perfectly normal tattoo as he addressed Miyazaki again. "The kids love it when I do that kind of stuff, so I've practiced it a bunch. But trust me when I say it's more dangerous than it seems," he advised lightheartedly.
