Jade sighed a little as she pulled up to the apartment building. While she was worried about her roommate, considering what happened earlier, she was not entirely enthusiastic about what Sophie would say about her being gone all day. At least it was nothing she would have to lie about but she knew the teasing was going to be just about unbearable.

“There you are! I sent you a few texts and I tried to call you once.” Sophie said from the couch as soon as Jade walked in. “Did you have a good time?” she asked, wiggling her eyebrows.

“Mind out of the gutter, Soph.” she scolded, rolling her eyes. “I met his cousin and his husband. That's all. But I did, actually, have a very good time. They invited us to stay for dinner then we all went to an arcade.”

Killian stretched, closing his eyes for a moment as his mind wandered back to the map Alex had showed them earlier. He didn't know how they could narrow down the areas. Sure, he could use his magic somehow, but…no one would trust information from Hex, and if he did it as Killian, everyone would question where he'd gotten the information.

“An arcade? Sounds retro… but I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.” Sophie smiled. “Win anything?”

Jade smiled softly and shook her head. “We got plenty of tickets but we didn't exchange them for anything this time. But we might go back some other time.” she shrugged, sitting on the couch next to her. “You feeling any better?”

Sophie nodded. “Much better. Ankle is still a little sore but I can walk on it.” she told her roommate, glancing at the gauze wrapped around her foot.

“Good to hear but you probably shouldn't walk on it too much. Not yet, at least.” Jade pointed out with a soft sigh.

“I’m a little worried about Killian.” Jade admitted softly.

“Why? What happened?” Sophie asked, perking up slightly.

“Nothing happened, per se.” Jade sighed. “He… just got some bad news about his mom. She’s been… missing for a long time and his cousin, Alex, confirmed something about the case.”

Sophie's eyes widened at the information. But before she could say anything else, Jade stood up. “I don't want to go into it too much. It's personal too him and I don't know the whole story.” she explained. “I… just don't really know what to do.”

“Well, if I were you, I'd call him. Make sure he's alright. I don't know if there is anything you can do but sometimes just talking can help.” Sophie encouraged gently. “And I’m guessing that you were there for the news…” Jade nodded a little at the unspoken question. “Then he trusts you a lot to let you in on a hurt like that. Now, get in your room and call him. I’ll turn on the TV or something out here.” she said, playfully showing the other woman away.

Jade managed a soft chuckle, dodging the push. “Alright, alright. I’m going.” she smiled faintly. “And thanks for the advice.” she said walking towards her room and dialing his number.

“No problem.” Sophie called back, staying true to what she said as she turned on the tv.

He nodded a little, and was quiet for a moment. "I just…ever since I was a kid, I always…people always said "oh, she's an adult, she has a right to be missing". Y'know? And…and they always believed my dad, when he said she ran off."

Jade was a little surprised when he actually started talking but kept quiet and listened. She opened her mouth, tempted to say that his father was a professional liar and a manipulative SoB… but she quickly bit her tongue on that. “I… I understand.” she said softly, hopefully encouraging him to continue.

"I know you do, I'm talking about when I was a kid. Before my dad got arrested and thrown in prison and whatever. Once he was arrested, people were a little more likely to believe me, but they still kept saying "oh, she ran off, it's fine, she probably has a new family now". Stuff like that."

“I know.” she nodded, knowing when he meant. Not a lot of people believed kids on things, even when they're right. Personally, she didn't think that it was “fine” that someone, a mother, would just up and disappear with no logical reason for it.
