The house was tall and looming, grey clouds overhead giving it a further ominous look. It was supposed to be summer, but here everything was freezing cold and wetter than a dog’s tongue. The children had been dropped off in front of the bus by the house’s front doorstep, and now they waited, standing outside and getting a chance to familiarize themselves.

Cam looked around, still questioning why she was even sent away. To her, what she had done was fine after a life of being misunderstood and hated by her family. She had contemplated getting rid of her parents for years, but after the refused to accept her one time too many, she finally snapped. Her parents never cared, and she didn't know that her actions were wrong. Being considerably behaved in school and around friends, albeit violent once angered, she thought that acting on an emotion like that justified everything that she had done, preventing punishment. Now she realized something, but she couldn't understand it. She turned to the others there and waved at them, trying to figure her situation out while wanting to make friends at the same time.

Emile looked around, trying to avoid eye contact with Cam. From what he knew, she was supposed to be some sort of dangerous psychopath sent away for trying to kill both her parents. But he didn’t see anything dangerous about her, not really, so he didn’t try to run away the moment he saw her.

Jax shivered, clutching her bag tighter to her chest. The girl was cold, even with her hoodie, and it showed. She didn't talk with the others, instead standing towards the back of the group, looking up at the house. Jax was muttering things under her breath, things she'd learned from her books on the bus ride.
She knew why she was being sent here, her parents simply had grown tired of her. But what confused her was why her parents had stopped caring. Jax always did her best to behave, and stayed out of the way when her mother was angry. She did all the chores when she was told, and did great in school. So, what had she done wrong?

Cam noticed this but didn't really question it. Even for being a generally caring person who was truly only a danger when in a state of negative emotion, she had a reputation about her that had existed since she was a child. Always being considered to be some demon, a lot of people she knew feared her. She just grew used to her intimidating reputation and would isolate herself when she couldn't be with her friends, usually creating fictional characters and drawing and occasionally writing about them to cope.

“So, uh… what are we waiting for? Should we just head on inside? I heard the guy who owns the place won’t mind if we do, but that was from the kid who went crazy from being stuck there too long. Apparently there wasn’t anything out of order, so the place is still standing, but still…” being in the foster care system made you know quite a bit about a lot of things.

Jaden took one look at the building and said nothing as they stalked up to the door and hit the ring against the wood, signalling their presence. "Or, you could knock like a polite person." They called over their shoulder.

"O-oh, yes, that makes sense also." he said, fidgeting in his space. He was feeling a little untethered, mentally, and was having difficulties paying attention to his surroundings.

Maisie scoffed as she made her way to the building. She waited for a bit before knocking on the door quite rudely.
"If anyone's there, open the goddamn door! Do you think I want to be around these idiots? Come on, open the door!" Maise yelled as she crossed her arms, waiting impatiently for the door to be opened.

Still, silence. Like whoever owned the house was waiting for… something. "This place is creepy, let's go." Emile said, fiddling with the strings of his hoodie nervously.

@spacebluelily language

Aw, are you scared? You scared of an old normal building? Do you want someone to hold your hand?" Maisie asked with a laugh. Maisie looked at the lock of the door and shrugged. "Should be easy to unlock this." She took out a bobby pin from her jacket and started playing around with it, entering it into the lock. After a couple of moments, she opened the door.

Jax stood back from the group, only shaking harder as the others talked. "I wanna- I wanna go home," she muttered, the sound barely audible. She clutched her backpack closer to herself as she adjusted her mask, her gray eyes looking up at the house looming before her.

She sighed and entered the house, stopping after she had taken a couple of steps. "It's just an old house. How can you guys be scared of this? Sure it might look spooky, but maybe whoever owns this place is into spooky things." She said, trying to not let her voice waver. She didn't want to admit she was as scared as everyone else.

"Uh, right." Emiliano said, opening the door. What he saw was fairly innocuous, just a pale, blond, middle aged man sitting on the stairs. But something about him was, well, wrong.

"Hello, children. My name is Mr. Enfield. And you all would be?" he asked in a soft, gentle voice, polite as anything.

Cam simply looked up at the man speaking. She already hated him just for running this place, a place that was presumably going to fix her. That made no sense to her. She didn't see herself as broken or a danger, or even in need of change. The whole idea of this was one she hated. She merely growled quietly in response before turning her head to the other side, already showing her dislike.

Aside from the idea behind this place that made her hate Mr. Enfield, she generally disliked most adults. She found them harsh and judgemental, seeing as her parents were exactly that when they'd acknowledge her and the only other ones she knew were teachers who tried to keep her within standards. She was by no means stupid, but violent and constantly being suspended and expelled from schools. With that, it all formed a general prejudice against adults, only adding to why she disliked him.

Mr. Enfield stood up, walking over to the group. "Oh, don't be scared now. It's just little old me, I don't bite. Usually," he laughed for a long while, seemingly never pausing for breath, before continuing. "Welcome to my home. I dearly hope you will enjoy your stay here." he said.

@spacebluelily language

"Usually?" Maisie asked after Mr. Enfield had stopped talking. What the hell does usually mean?"
She didn't trust him. Not one bit. And second of all, she wasn't going to give her name to some old man that made her feel unsafe around him. She hated that feeling and just wished the man would disappear.

Jax stepped back as the man spoke, whimpering as he laughed. "I'm- I'm Jax," she muttered, her eyes flicking to the ground. The girl's legs were shaking as muddy water seeped through her tattered shoes and threadbare socks, and she shuddered as a breeze blew by.

"Jax, what a lovely name. I just might have to steal it for myself, yes. Come along inside, I have so much to show you!" he said, not bothering to turn the lights on at all, leaving the house engulfed in darkness.

@spacebluelily language

Steal her name for himself? What type of old man is he? Maisie thought as she hesitantly followed him inside the house. The fact that he hadn't bothered to turn on the lights bothered her. She sighed, trying to tell herself it was just like a haunted house, but with an old man that was probably insane.

Emile looked around, fidgeting with his hoodie. The place was cold, colder than it had been outside, and impossibly dark, and when he looked down the halls he could almost hear howling and screaming. "R-right sir," he said, not wanting to offend this terrifying man.

Jaden frowned at the man's words, tapping their fingers on their other hand as they thought. Fae stories had taught them enough, never give out your real name. "You can call me Jade."

(Wow, there's a reply after I delete mine… Okay, my rude, sarcastic, annoyed self aside, I would like to announce that I am leaving. I feel like my OC will just be disliked, though her entire concept is to show that reputation and past mistakes don't determine who someone truly is. Also, I feel like I'll somehow get kicked out of the plot or kill this entire thing. So, removing what could cause issues, this should be fun. Also, yes, I do like this idea, and please, do have fun. :) )

Deleted user

(Aww, come on! I like Cam! Although, if you feel you need to leave, go ahead! I won’t mind at all, do what’s best for you!)

Deleted user

(Honestly, do what feels best for you, dude. It’s your choice.)

@heeey-bitchhhhhhhhhhh

(I just felt like I killed it since I saw basically all of you guys online yet didn't get a response for three hours. Then I deleted my reply. Also, yeah, I am very sassy when annoyed.. Sorry.)

Deleted user

(No problem dude! Honestly, I was just waiting for others to reply before me because I feel like I get overzealous with replies sometimes.)

Deleted user

(Lol yeah. So if you wanna stay go ahead, but otherwise feel free to do whatever!)
