Melissa smiled softly, nuzzling against him a little. "Mm, we could make cookies. Chocolate chip ones, maybe…"
Melissa smiled softly, nuzzling against him a little. "Mm, we could make cookies. Chocolate chip ones, maybe…"
"I like cookies…" Lucas mumbled softly, curling in on himself a bit more.
"Then while you're asleep, maybe I'll make some. You could have hot chocolate to go with it, if you'd like." Melissa continued to whisper, tracing circles into his chest with her free hand.
"Mmm… maybe…" Lucas held a little tighter to Melissa, still seeming a bit uneasy. "Sorry about all this, Mel…"
"It's okay. You haven't done anything wrong." Melissa insisted, not pushing away from him. "Just relax… I can keep talking if you'd like. Or be quiet. Whatever you'd prefer."
"Anything is fine, I dunno…" Lucas toyed with his sleeves a bit, still seeming uneasy.
“Mm…” Melissa trailed a little, pulling him closer to herself. “You remember the time your mom took us to the park, and to get ice cream when Claus pushed you off the swing set?”
"Mhmm…" Lucas held tighter to Melissa. "Happened a few times… he liked pushing me off of things."
"Yeah… I remember he got in so much trouble, and me and you were only allowed to get something." Melissa snickered softly, playing with his hair still. "And he was so mad the whole ride home."
"Mhmm…" Lucas sighed and leaned into Melissa's hand a bit more. "He deserved it, though…"
"Oh, definitely." Melissa nodded, tucking his head under her chin. "He hurt you, and that wasn't okay."
"Mm…" Lucas fidgeted a bit more, just allowing Melissa to hold onto him. "We had a lot of incidents like that."
"Mhmm… didn't he try to push you in a lake at some point?" Melissa asked softly, rubbing circles into his back. "Or maybe he did… I feel like I pushed him in, though. I only would have done it if he had pushed you first, though."
"Yeah, he's definitely pushed me into lakes. Not as funny when I was like, six, and didn't know how to swim…" Lucas laughed weakly.
"Mm, probably not to him, at least." Melissa mumbled, kissing the top of his head. "I just can't wrap my mind around the fact he found it amusing to torment you."
"Meh… sibling stuff. I got used to it." Lucas shrugged. "You kinda have to when it's that frequent."
"That's fair…" Melissa huffed, burying her face in his shoulder. "Mm… I guess Gabriel was like that sometimes- but he was just old enough to know when too much was too much."
"Yeah… Claus didn't have that filter." Lucas sighed. "He kinda just did what he wanted since I was too much of a wuss to stop him."
"Mm, well, he'd have a problem now. You're pretty tough…" Melissa whispered, kissing him softly. "Even if you don't think so, I do."
"Mm… he couldn't throw me around as much anymore, at least." Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder.
Melissa smiled softly, resting her head against his. "Mhmm. And you've got a girlfriend to help protect you."
"Mhmm…" Lucas nodded a bit and hugged Melissa tightly. "Thanks, Mel… love you."
"Of course, Lu…" Melissa whispered, gently running her fingers through his hair again.
Lucas closed his eyes and tried to relax a bit, although he was still a bit fidgety. "You're the best…"
"Mm, I doubt it." Melissa whispered, nuzzling against his cheek. "But I try my best, anyways."
"Mm… you're doing a pretty good job, Mel." He kissed Melissa softly and sighed.
"But clearly not good enough." Melissa muttered under her breath, giving him a concerned look. "I don't really know what I can do for you, Lu…"
"Me being useless isn't your fault, Mel. It's mine. You shouldn't have to feel obligated to make me feel better just because I'm incapable of doing it myself…"
"You're not being useless, Lucas." Melissa whispered, tipping his chin up to look at her. Gently she held his face in her hands, thumbs brushing against his cheeks. "I love you, okay? I want to help you…"
"I love you too, Mel… I just… I feel bad…" Lucas sighed shakily and looked up at Melissa.
