Melissa smiled weakly, kissing the top of his head. "Love you, too. Mm, I can also help with any homework assignments." She hummed, nosing against his cheek.

"Thank you…" Lucas relaxed a little more. "We should probably get back so I can get back to work… or I can do it tomorrow…"

“It would probably be best to head back… you think you’ll be alright?” Melissa asked softly, running her fingers through his hair.

"Yeah… probably." Lucas reluctantly got to his feet and pulled Melissa up to hers. "Let's get going."

Melissa nodded, taking Cody’s leash. Slowly she pulled Lucas along back to the house. “I’m really sorry about all of this, I wish you didn’t have to…”

"Mm…" Lucas kissed Melissa's cheek and allowed her to lead him along. "It's not your fault…"

"I know that- but… but it's just the guilty feeling. I don't even know where it's coming from." Melissa sighed weakly, holding on tightly to his hand.

"Yeah…" Lucas held a little tighter to Melissa's hand, seeming to grow uneasy again now that he wasn't in the clearing.

Melissa glanced back at him, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. She could see the uneasiness on his face. "You alright, love?"

"I don't know… I'm just feeling stressed again…" Lucas gripped Melissa's hand tightly, sighing softly.

Melissa slowed to a stop, giving him a concerned look. "Is it about the school work?" She asked softly, running her thumb over his hand.

"Yeah…" Lucas ran his fingers through his hair and closed his eyes. "I just wanna sleep, I dunno…"

"Mm… how 'bout this, you get one or two more assignments done, and you can take a nap until dinner." Melissa offered softly, reaching up to hold his face.

"Okay… will you help me with them?" Lucas asked weakly. "I'm sick and tired of doing it…"

“Of course, love. We’ll do it together, and you can take a nap right after.” Melissa told him softly. Kissing his cheek, she pulled him into a hug.

Lucas hugged Melissa tightly and buried his face in her shoulder, not wanting to let go. "M'sorry, Mel…"

“Hey, it’s alright, love. Don’t be sorry.” Melissa whispered, resting her head against his. “We’re gonna get through all of it together.”

"Mmmmm… why can't I just be exempt? I was in a mental hospital… it's not like I was exactly in the best mindset to be slaving through busywork."

“We could always talk to a teacher…” Melissa offered in a soft tone, playing with his hair some. She rubbed circles into his back with a soft sigh.

"I guess… I dunno…" Lucas sighed softly. "I love you, Mel…"

"I love you, too…" Melissa whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek. "You ready to head back?"

"I guess so…" Lucas sighed softly and held tighter to Melissa. "I wish I could just forget about all this…"

"I wish I could let you forget about all of this… I'd do it for you, if it wasn't considered cheating…" Melissa whispered, kissing him again. Cody started whining at Lucas's feet, pawing at his leg.

"Yeah…" Lucas sighed and picked up Cody, holding the puppy close. "Let's head back, Mel…"

Melissa gave Lucas a soft look, gently pulling him back to the house. "We could do something fun when you get it all done. Didn't you say you wanted to go to the zoo or something, at one point?"

Lucas nodded a bit, quietly following Melissa back to the house. "Yeah… it's cold out, though… they might not be open."

"Mm, well, you had a couple other things. I'll look at the list I made, when we get back." Melissa hummed softly, tucking her hair back out of her face.

"Mmkay, Mel…" Lucas followed Melissa into the house, still carrying Cody until he sat back down at the table.

Melissa rubbed his shoulders, hugging him from behind when he sat at the table. "I'm gonna grab my backpack, and I'll be right back, okay? And then we can work on this together."

"Okay, Mel…" Lucas pulled out his pencil and started on his next assignment, tapping one foot on the ground anxiously.
