Melissa pulled back, looking up at him worriedly. "Lu?" She whispered, gently trying to shake him awake.
Melissa pulled back, looking up at him worriedly. "Lu?" She whispered, gently trying to shake him awake.
Lucas winced and paled before opening his eyes, his heart pounding as he looked up at Melissa.
Melissa gave him a worried expression, quietly running her fingers through his hair. She figured out pretty quickly what was wrong, and didn't bother to ask.
Lucas buried his face in Melissa's shoulder and sighed shakily, gripping her tightly while he tried to calm himself down.
"Is there anything I can do?" Melissa asked finally, breaking the silence as she slowly rubbed circles into his back.
"T-Talk, maybe? I… I-I dunno, I just… I c-can't… I'm sorry…" He stammered, drawing in a few quick, wavering breaths.
"It's okay… you're okay…" She whispered, kissing his shoulder. "You're alright, Lucas. I've got you. Nothing is going to hurt you."
Lucas nodded weakly, still struggling to breathe properly. "I'm sorry…" He whispered. "I-I'm so sorry…"
"You don't need to be sorry, babe… just take a deep breath." Melissa whispered still, trying her best to reassure him. "Take all the time you need."
Lucas whimpered quietly to himself, still clinging tightly to Melissa while he whispered almost inaudible apologies.
Melissa kept quiet, kissing him softly a few times. She didn't say anything else, gently playing with his hair to try and distract him.
It took Lucas a while to settle back down again, eventually just silently quivering in Melissa's arms.
Melissa pulled him closer, resting her chin on the top of his head. Quietly she hummed, trying to calm him further. "I got you… you don't have to worry… nothing is going to hurt you."
"Mm…" Lucas exhaled shakily and fidgeted with his hands, trying his best to just listen to Melissa.
"I'm here for you, Lucas. Whatever you need." Melissa continued to whisper, holding on tightly to him. "I want you to feel safe…"
Lucas nodded a bit , keeping his face hidden for now. "I'm sorry…" He murmured again.
Melissa sighed weakly, kissing the top of his head again. "I'm sorry you keep having these nightmares…"
"It's not your fault, though…" Lucas sighed. "I should be able to handle it by now…"
"You should never have to handle it." Melissa insisted, kissing him again. "And I wasn't blaming myself. I'm just sorry."
"Mm…" Lucas held a bit tighter to Melissa. "I love you, Mel…" He murmured.
"Love you, too…" She whispered in response, leaning into him with a weak sigh.
"Uhm… w-we should probably get up soon…" Lucas sighed. "I gotta take my meds so this doesn't get worse…"
"I can get them for you, if you just want to lie here." Melissa offered softly, sitting up. "You just have to tell me where they are."
"Mm… you can just get Cody to get them…" Lucas curled in on himself a bit when Melissa pulled away. "He knows how…"
Melissa sighed softly, running her fingers through his hair. "I hate to break it to you, but I don't think Cody listens to me like he does you." She whispered, giving him an apologetic look.
Lucas sighed softly and called for Cody, instructing the puppy to retrieve his meds before laying back down.
Melissa gave him a soft look, playing with his hair. She laid back down next to him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"Mm…" Lucas accepted his meds from Cody when the puppy returned and took them with some water. After he swallowed them, he huddled up with Melissa again.
“You feeling any better?” Melissa asked softly, letting him snuggle up against her. Once he was settled, she played with his hair.
"A little… I gotta wait for the meds to kick in, though…" Lucas sighed and held tighter to Melissa.
