"Mmkay… when are we gonna stop for the night?" Rowan asked softly, yawning a bit as he huddled close to Matthew.
"Mmkay… when are we gonna stop for the night?" Rowan asked softly, yawning a bit as he huddled close to Matthew.
"We can keep going a bit, seeing as sunset isn't for another hour, or we could find a place soon to settle in for the night." Matthew rubbed Rowan's arm a bit, humming softly.
"We should probably change tonight, too. I'll watch the chicks while you do."
"Mmkay…" Rowan yawned again with a soft hum. "Sounds good to me. We can keep going for a bit…"
"You sure? I wouldn't want you falling asleep like this…" Matthew chuckled softly.
"I'll be fine… just shake me a bit if I doze off. We can stop whenever you want to."
"Alright then," Matthew said softly. He pulled the horses over soon, lifting Rowan up in his arms.
Rowan rested his head on Matthew's shoulder when he was picked up, struggling to keep his eyes open at this point.
Matthew held Rowan close, smiling softly.
"You you think you have enough energy to change?" he asked gently.
"Mm… probably. I can try, anyway… where are my clothes?" Rowan asked sleepily.
"Here, they're in the bag," Matthew said. He sat Rowan down, smiling a bit and offering him the robes.
"Mmkay… here, hold onto the nest." Rowan traded the nest for the clothes and headed over to change where Matthew couldn't see him.
Matthew sat down, holding the nest in his hands. He smiled gently when he saw the chicks were still asleep. He hummed, waiting paciently.
Rowan soon returned, yawning again as he huddled up in Matthew's arms. "M'tired…" he mumbled.
"Shall we just go to bed, then?" Matthew said gently. He wrapped his arms around Rowan, humming softly with a small yawn. He held the nest in his hands, resting it in Rowan's lap.
"Mhmm… did you get the fire going?" Rowan asked. "It's kinda chilly…" He trembled a little in Matthew's embrace.
"No, not yet. I'll get it going." Matthew held Rowan close when he trembled, tucking him away securely in one arm as he set about gathering the materials for the fire from the area around them.
Rowan held the nest close to himself as he watched Matthew set the fire up. "It… it doesn't take too long to make a fire, right?"
"No, it doesn't," Matthew assured. He set the kindling up, sitting down with Rowan in his lap so he could strike the flint and steel.
"Mmkay…" Rowan huddled up in Matthew's lap with a shaky sigh and allowed himself to relax, although he was still shivering.
Matthew worked on the fire, finally getting it large enough that he could sit back and relax. He wrapped his arms around Rowan again.
"How are you doing?"
"Mm…" Rowan stirred a bit, almost asleep by now. He was far too tired to properly reply to Matthew.
Matthew smiled gently.
"Good night, Rowan," he said softly." he shifted so they were laying down, arms still securely around Rowan. Matthew hummed softly.
Rowan was soon fast asleep in Matthew's arms, and was still asleep when the other awoke. The chicks were settled in the nest, stirring, but all accounted for.
Matthew woke up early, as usual. He smiled faintly, his face resting in Rowan's hair. He laid there a moment with him, then slowly pulled away to keep an eye on the chicks and start breakfast.
Rowan stirred a bit when Matthew pulled away and whined, clinging tightly to the avian's leg to try and retain some warmth.
Matthew looked down at Rowan, chuckling softly. He ran his fingers through Rowan's hair, picking him and the nest up in one arm.
Rowan settled down again and smiled gently in his sleep when Matthew picked him up again, seeming to be content.
Matthew held Rowan close as he set about with breakfast. He started cooking it, smiling gently. He sat down again, wrapping both arms around Rowan and the nest.
After another half an hour or so, Rowan stirred again and opened his eyes sleepily, yawning a bit. "Mm… mornin', Matthew…"
Matthew looked down when Rowan spoke.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," he said with a soft chuckle. "Did you sleep well?"
